Seiko Shogun SBDC007 - Still The BEST!

  • After one year of almost constant use I'm still in love with the Seiko Shogun SBDC007.
    I take a close look at my Seiko Prospex Shogun SBDC007 titanium watch with the 6R15 Japanese movement. The secret to this watch is the magical Diashield Titanium which looks like stainless steel but is VERY hard and scratch resistant. The thermal properties of this titanium as well as the light weight (about 105 grams) make this watch exceptionally comfortable on wrist in all conditions. Other specs: 42mm; Thickness 13.3 mm; Lug to lug 50mm; Weight 105g; Signed Crown; 120 click bezel; Drilled lugs; 22mm titanium bracelet.
    The watch is now running a few seconds slow each day. I would rather it run fast but it's still well within acceptable time keeping specs for an automatic watch.

    Bought it from an Amazon reseller called "muller" from Japan to my door in four days. $1010 shipped. Wife doesn't get it. I love it, it's so comfy. Got the link removal done. Have heard or read that people find that the dial can be "off". Mine is perfect. I heartily endorse your review. When the hardlex gets scratched I will install a sapphire ar. For now perfection!

    I've had this watch for almost 2 years and very happy with it. Also goes well with different Nato/zulu straps. After warranty I took the back off to adjust the timing a bit( it was running 5-10 sec. slow). I have a watch timegrapher app(Watch Tuner Lite) that helped with the process. Using the app I was able to tell how different watch positions affected the rate. With the watch on my wrist now, the rate is about 3-5 sec. fast. If it gets too far ahead, I just store the watch in the crown down position over night to bring it back. Here is what I found using the app: Crown Up (3-12 sec. slow), Crown Down (65-86 sec. slow), Face Down (6 sec. fast), Face Up (4 sec. slow). Of course temperature and testing environment probably have an effect on these values. Also, no problem with chapter ring alignment.

    I bought my GF a Invicta with a similar movement 4r36 (day date) and it ran at 5 sec a day then slowed down to 10 seconds a week now looses 5 a day then only gains 5 a week.... It's crazy unpredictable but really love it cause it hacks n hand winds

  • @Manakidis
    @Manakidis 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Craig,
    well, the watch is just great when it comes to accuracy. After 20 days the watch gained 5 seconds. Not that is so accurate by its's own mehanics no matter what, it's all about positioning watch overnight. When wearing the watch it gains time, if positioned with crown down overnight it looses time, about 5 seconds. So, afer about three weeks I'm on +5 sec. Usually I put it with crown up overnight.
    Craig, maybe you already tried different positions - crown down/up, dial down/up etc., if not, try to experiment, maybe you will find out how your mechanism functions.
    And yes, everything else you said in your reviews is confirmed in everyday use. Watch is great.
    Best regards,
    manakidis

    your previous video and many other reviews that I read just made my decision much easier to get this great watch. Today I received it, and it is not so easy to get one in Europe. • @Manakidis
      @Manakidis 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** Yes, great to wear and it's obviously very well made. I wonder how much this watch would cost if it was made in Switzerland or Germany. I guess it would double the price. Clasp is centered underside of the wrist.

    • @Manakidis
      @Manakidis 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** My is 1-2 sec. slow so far. I don't care about that. I usually put it 30-60 sec ahead if it runs slow or 30-60 behind if it runs fast, so actually it's "gaining" accuracy in the coming weeks.

    • @Manakidis
      @Manakidis 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** That is true. I love the accuracy, but mechanical watches are just not meant to be that precise. Not long ago I was considering so called einzeiger watch, that is with one hand form Meister Singer, but I'm not ready yet, you can easily go wrong for a minute. Some people say that with einzeiger watch perception of time becomes more relaxed.
      But did you know that there are mechanical watches that can be regulated to be more precise than quartz watches. Search for Erwin Sattler and his precision pendulum clocks, it's unbelievable. (sorry for the off-topic)

  • @skatezoneadam4500
    @skatezoneadam4500 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm considering this watch but what's holding me back for the moment is the fake multi-piece link looking bracelet, doesn't that annoy you? It should have been real multi-piece links instead of single links at this price. I wunder why they decided to go with this.

I would like you to please comment and explain what the shoppinginjapan website says about it: (Manufacturer Note : The chapter ring and index & bezel index and face index not being aligned perfectly). Of course, there is no perfect watch. Watch enthusiasts have different criteria that are important to them, as well as different tastes.
    What you should have said is that this is the best watch FOR YOU.

    • @jeffpuha8187
      @jeffpuha8187 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ***** That's a perfect illustration of my initial comment. Now, it seems, the Apple Watch is "the perfect watch"-for you. Personally, I would never own one.
      When watch reviewers, such as yourself, flip-flop so whimsically and easily concerning their favorite watches, it makes it hard to take your recommendations and watch analysis seriously.
      What will be your "best watch ever" be tomorrow?

    • @jeffpuha8187
      @jeffpuha8187 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ***** I don't appreciate your tone or your insinuations. The reason I wouldn't ever have an Apple Watch has nothing to do with activity or productivity.
      Many of you "watch enthusiasts" are like spoiled children saying "Gimmee, gimmee, gimmee" to every shiny new thing that comes along, while disposing of lasting, quality pieces in favor of the "fad-of-the-day". I abhor that mentality.
      Do you really think your Apple Watch will be worth a fifth of what it cost you 2-3 years from now? I seriously doubt it.
      Yet I could get about 75-80%, perhaps more, of the original purchase price on a 5-year-old Rolex any day of the week in practically any country in the world. Get it?

    • @jeffpuha8187
      @jeffpuha8187 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ***** Well, if you think owning and enjoying a fine timepiece is equivalent to acquiring a tool like a hammer or screwdriver, then you really have no clue. Perhaps you should review hardware instead of watches, and save a lot of money by purchasing a Timex. After all, "the job" is telling time accurately, right? A Timex quartz will do that better than almost any fine automatic.

    This watch is better than the Rolex Submariner without the hype and expense.

      Sorry, but that's a ridiculous statement, and that's coming from an owner of both. I love my Shogun, and all my other Seiko divers, but to say it's better than the Submariner is just not true. I will say my Submariner gets worn less than my Seikos, and I probably actually even like my Seikos better lately, but the quality and tolerances of the Rolex are light years ahead.

      Proof of the pudding you wearing Seiko more often. But if the Rolex is 5-10 times the price and you're not wearing it often, the jokes on you for wasting your money sucker.

    • @jeffswing281
      @jeffswing281 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do prefer wearing my Seikos, I find them more interesting, and have considered selling the Sub. But that doesn't make Seikos "better". Quality wise there is no comparison. Certainly Seikos offer better value. I guess better is subjective, my only point was that blanket statements that say a Seiko is better than a Rolex are just silly. Call me what you like and continue to be a Rolex hater, that's cool.

      If people want to pay thousands of dollars to some old fucks that get around a board room table in Switzerland, to discuss their pension plans on the price of watches it's their loss.

      +MrStoneycool69 How so, dude? Exactly how is it better than an 116610? Better bracelet? Better movement? How? Do you have anything that isn't purely anecdotal to back your claim? Look, I get it. I even told myself the very same thing for many years about some of my orient and Seiko models... Now I own an 116600 and while I certainly appreciate watches at each end of the spectrum -- still owning an Alpinist SARB017 with this same movement (which i will never part with -- i can honestly say that your statement, just as I used to make before, is not based on facts, can be easily disproven, and is a downright lie we tell ourselves when for one reason or another we can't or are just (justifiably so) not willing to shell so much money for a damn watch. Is this a good watch? Yes it is; just like the Sumo and MarineMaster. Are Rolex watches overpriced? Hell yes! Are they the best watches in the world? Certainly not! Are there watches as good or perhaps better than a sub at a fraction of its cost? Of course! Is this one of them? Hell no!

    Frankly, this is an idiotic review. Yes, it's a nice watch, but the best watch ever made? Utterly ridiculous comment. The band, for one thing is hideous and the movement is rank average. Still, it gets you hits I guess, which is presumably your objective.
