  • I have owned this watching the pass and I really liked it. But at that time I wasn't doing videos. So since this one came in for service, I decided to do a video on the pluses and minuses regarding this model.
    Thanks for Watching!

    While I mostly agree on what you said, here's a couple of points that may be worth the viewer's consideration:
    a. Sapphire does make a difference. I used to say pretty much the same with my Sumo till I switched the crystal to sapphire and the increase in clarity is stunning. The hands do shine now. Very much worth the money
    b. The bezel has a tinnicky sound, as you pointed out, but the main reason is that there's no bezel gasket underneath.
    c. the tube is titanium. Huge problem down the road, much more so than diashield scratching.
    d. personal gripe - the black color of the dial is not deep enough. Its somewhat greyish.
    e. If Seiko produced a drop-in replacement 28.8k movement for the 6R15, I'd be on it in an instant.

      George thanks for the reply. I have changed out a lot of crystals to sapphire's in the last 15 years and I can comfortably say that it was not needed. I like the hardlex better.
      Where did you hear the tube was titanium? I have not taken on apart to check that info out. If it is then I do agree that it could be a high wear item.

    One month ago I bought the SBDC029 SEIKO Shogun Titanium for 900 $. This is my first automatic watch and I have been wearing it every day. I love this piece of art

    Have a SBDC027 with the 6R15 movement same thing runs like crap .Low amplitude from new ran over 30 sec slow a day.Have you had good luck with the new NE15s amplitude ?

    • @utewatchco1468

      So far the NE15's have been great.

    I don’t own this watch but do own the Seiko sbdc033 or Blumo with the 6R15 movement and my watch runs fine . It doesn’t lose time but does run a little fast but it’s been consistent. So to me as long as it’s not losing time I’m good . One question though is the Seiko nh15 movement the equivalent to the 6r15 ?

    • @utewatchco1468
      @utewatchco1468  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The NH15 is equivalent. And in my experience it runs great.

    Great video. I actually have the currant version of this. I managed to scratch the clasp.
    I really like it but I can understand these issues. I do not consider this watch the greatest value. The finishing is nice, many other titanium watches have a very harsh grey finish. This has an almost Stainless like finish.

    • @utewatchco1468
      @utewatchco1468  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Enjoy the watch. It is a great value imo. Most titanium watches can't take the abuse like the Shogun.

  • @tamirobo
    @tamirobo 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I agree with most. Especially the coating over the Titanium. Stainless steel can be refinished/rebuffed/rebrushed... I still have to find out out how to refinish titanium. Too soft to hold a hardness. Scratches too easy. Not desirable for an everyday watch unless you are always conscious how your hands swing and move.

    You said that parts are not available for this movement. Is that because it's now discontinued?

    • @utewatchco1468
      @utewatchco1468  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope that is not the reason. The reason is Seiko does not sell the parts for the 6r15 outside of Japan. They consider this a JDM model. The only thing you can order is a mainspring in the catalog from Seiko.

    • @Ferien7
      @Ferien7 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ToxicNATOs so if I want a watch that can be serviced regularly, I need to avoid seiko jdm models?

    • @utewatchco1468
      @utewatchco1468  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Ferien7 I didn't say it can't be serviced. I just said you can not replace broken parts on the movement. We have service quite a few 6r15's with no problems.

    • @Ferien7
      @Ferien7 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ToxicNATOs ok, but if it does break, the watch is basically trash. Sounds like I need to find an alternative to jdm movements...

    • @utewatchco1468
      @utewatchco1468  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Ferien7 It is not trash. You can send it to Seiko to get it fixed. My comments are related to an indy watchmaker. Not Seiko.

    Nice presentation. I'm not a fan of diashield. I have a stainless steel seiko with diashield and it definitely mutes the glow of stainless. Also, like you say, if you ding the watch it gives the appearance of damaged chrome. It is pretty good, not great, for resisting scratches however. And as far as the 6r, I'd rather have a 4r. And it is pretty cool how, if you are having problems, you can just swap out the movement economically. For the $ it should come with sapphire. Bracelet is great imo. One niggle, that arrow hour hand can be hard to read later in the night as the lume fades, but the hands are great for time at a glance otherwise.

    The Smoked tonality is the Titanium Not the "Dia Shield".

    • @utewatchco1468

      Dia shield makes a watch dark than it's pure form. This is true of titanium and stainless steel watches.

      I had yobokies Grand Seiko diver hands on mine. One thing though. The best option is to find Seiko hands from another model that you like and install the. The reason for that is because aftermarket hands do not have as good as lume as Seiko does.

    Not a fan of the hands either, just doesn't fit this watch, should use more elegant hands. However, they fit the monsters 100%.
