Hi everyone! What grade (out of 10) would you give this video?
8/10
9
this is amazing movie!
9.5
I've always loved this movie, and compared to cr@p modern movies this is a master piece.
Just watched Steven Seagull's Under Siege and guess what, that mindless juvenile movie which I loved when I was 12 but disliked it as an adult is also a million times better than all modern movies.
3/10, same as the whole movie.
Nostalgic. This ship was its own character in this movie. Definitely had presence.
Fun fact. The trimaran in the movie was an actually ORMA 60. They could reach speed over 40 knots, so technically it could outrun the two jetskis. Jetskis in the 90s had an average top speed at 40 to 45 knots.
That relies on favorable winds thought and the sea state didn't indicate any significant wind in any direction. But yeah, movie magic I guess.
I was just about to drop a comment asking if anyone knew about the speeds of the boats and jet skis.
Thank for the info dude 🤟
those racing boats are crazy, my sailboat goes 5-7 knots on a good day, like most.
hell of a lot more comfortable than that thing though.
@@T-800.. No problem 🙂
@@nanomage Movie magic indeed.
Hell knows why it didn't find it's fans at that time, but I love this movie, and I liked it when saw it first time. This is actually marine mad max
exactly marine mad max- perfect description!
All the bad press during the production got during the making and the cost didn't help.
@@robertkees6048 They made a profit in the end. Lots.
@@redrobotmonkeySure, that's because everyone loves mail.
@@robertkees6048 No idea what that means. This has nothing to do with the postman.
one of the best movies I have watched, the good old 90s. I cant believe POSTMAN never made it. I love that movie.
I’ll never understand why people hated this movie so much, yes the plot and characters are lame, but it’s got great practical effects set pieces and music, it’s just fun to watch
People hated this movie?
I agree. I liked it. Dennis shoppers character was amazing
@@parker99able I remember it described (accurately, I thought) as "not nearly as bad as the reviews made it out to be but not nearly as good as its budget should have made it".
It was they went out onto the ocean itself instead of doing it on a sound stage and thus cost more money
It was an utter disappointment because of how poorly it resembled the great novel on which it was based. Had it been an original work, instead of an adaptation, it would have been better received.
what a great movie. This one and the postman were two of my favorite kevin costner films
Ha. Well you certainly are your own man.
Somehow I think u are at the age from 40 to 45
same. those two were comfies
Costner did some amazing films, neither of these were those though.
that may be but I still enjoy them.@@kdashkdhkdhkdashiads
I always liked that movie.
Same. My favorite part was when he cut both of the girl’s hair and asked them if something was wrong afterwards and they were both like “Nope! Everything’s fine!” 😂😂😂
Great scene! Most people I've watched it with miss the irony/sarcasm in that scene. A few parts were silly or underdeveloped but overall an incredibly entertaining movie. Fun Fact: there are different versions. One of them explains the "Dry Land" they find at the end is actually the top of Mt. Everest. Cool cool movie.
Madmax of the ocean. This movie was a classic
If you compare this movie to stuff they are bringing out lately .. this is the best movie ever 😅
I agree 💯 this movie was brilliant to watch.
I am so glad Jeanne Tripplehorn didn't retire from acting after this. She was wonderful in everything she has been in.
Guys on the jet skis waited an awfully long time before they decided to go after the bag.
The drifter was an absolute jerk - stealing ALL the limes.
Especially since the limes were likely the only source of Vitamin C for him. But at least the drifter got smoked.
We were training as Design and Technology teachers when this came out and went nuts at this scene in the cinema 😊
It wasn't strictly neccessary that the filmmakers put to much effort into showing how the Mariniers' ships works but I thankful that they did and I more than apprechiate the effort.
Yeah it was necessary, the plot was so lame this actually held everyone's attention waiting for the next cool thing it might do. As cheesy as it was this was a great flick.
This movie is AWESOME. The sets and overal grand scale was incredible. Such a shame people shit on it back in the day. Very few movies take such risk and have such a grande scale these days.
90's action movies were basically amusement park rides. Just simple fun without much thought required. This movie isn't deep or complex or whatever, but it's definitely entertaining. You sit on the couch and cheer for the Mariner while you chomp down some snacks.
С годами все стало немного ближе к реальности. Сейчас , просматривая заключительные кадры фильма - кушать уже не хочется. 😮
Now they have sailing hydrofoils that go in excess of 50 mph. The record is 62 mph. Thats in 5-8 foot seas in a gale. More excitement than I really want. There is a mechanical stabilizer on the forward foil that keeps the foils stable when the hull is clear of the water. The hull rides about six feet above the water. Very smooth but absolutely terrifying. It takes a stiff breeze to get foil borne but once you’re up, it doesn’t take much to stay there.
Great movie. Highly underrated
My wife talks crap about this movie but I love it. Grew up on this and The Postman.
This movie was well ahead of its time, and yer man it's unreal it wasn't a block buster in its time...
My favorite movie as a teen. I have the whole thing memorized. So under appreciated. “He’s a mutation!”
Clearly not memorised enough kid. It's "heeee is a mutant!"
I like the glass eye bit:
Kid: it looks like shit
Deacon: I love kids . It DOES look like shit! And it Feels like Cold Shit!
Да отличный фильм. Просто недооцененный. 9 баллов.
Brilliant movie, with practical effects and a muscular performance from Costner..make them like this again please...
Loved this movie, I want a boat like that!!!!
It does exist. Not as a working ship but one of the two Trimarans is still a working sailboat without the spectacular effects.
Never understood the hate on this movie. It was good.
Very under-rated movie.
I always liked it. Mad max on water. All good
I loved that mad big fish that he hunts and eats later, I would have loved to have seen more of it and how it looked in the movie
The setting is still like new !!
Keep up scenes of good movies that’s where your audience is at
Чему вечно критики придираются?! Отличный фильм,отличный сюжет,постановка,декорации,а главное какой отличный океан они для фильма создали.😃
Good movie to watch when you are in the mood for something crazy and nuts like a mad max movie
One of the best films ever.
Always enjoyed this movie.
Never understood how people who live in a world with nothing but water, they can still be so damn grimy
the grime probably protects your skin from sunburn, so it make sense not to be too clean
Good point, I think European sailors might have been pretty gross too. Maybe some thing to do with lack of nutrients
Ha ha. I thought it was good. Everyone makes good points.
tough to wash with salt water...with or without soap
@@danstrayer111 Salt water still gets dirt off you, but doing so would dehydrate you i think
I love the effort directors put in practical effects. It is literally magic tricks that fool the audience. Constantly throughout the movie, I would say to myself, How did they do that? It was special.
Kevin Costner paid a lot of money to actually film a lot of this in the ocean.
Sometimes its magic, and sometimes its just money.
Badass boat
I love this movie. Never understood why others slammed it.
best water film xD
One of the best movies ever made
So waterworld is mad max with boats 🚤
Always has been!
As a sailor of Hobie Cats, I had wet dreams about the sailing scenes in this movie.
i enjoyed the movie actually.. the whole things is a cool concept..i see it being rebooted
Remembered this scene, when years later I first time saw the BMW Oracel BOR 90 trimaran lift up... but looking and hearing the new SailGP's F50 is even more sick, when they completely lift out of the water on their hydrofoils.
SailGP and AC are just fancy shallow sea regattas. At the moment two solo Ultimates skippers are flying side by side at 35 knots in the middle of the South Atlantic Ocean in pitch black conditions...
I loved this movie as a kid. Never understood why it flopped so badly.
it actually turned a profit. I don't know why people think it "flopped"
the most dramatic cue ever composed for the discovery of lime theft
a leimotif, perhaps
A great movie up to the point when his craft gets destroyed… that boat is really Costner’s Co-Star… with it gone, the movie mostly loses its direction and mojo…
One of my favorite movies
At 2:11 after he picks up the bag from the water you can see another bag still in the water 😂I still love the film tho.
GOLDEN SPOT!!!! Much appreciation for that!
Mad Max water version?
pretty much
Great movie
So the "Smokers" have gas, which is somewhat explained by the story..... but we are expected to believe that they still have ammo, and the motors of those jet skis haven't burned up in 100's of years?? lol most of those 90's jets skis didn't even make it through the 90's lol
its fantasy entertainment, not a documentary....lol
While this film was not the greatest of all time, it wasn't that bad. The ending was ludicrous, but overall, it was worth watching.
That boat of his sure does have speed. I mean for something with no motor.
Was a great movie IMO
I really like his boat.
Damn, The Kenshi Adaptation looking FIRE!
Must have done a heck of a lot of welding underwater... Or nothing would float at all. Is this true?
These scenes launched a ship in a D&D campaign that persisted for 20 years before it went down in flames like Star Trek III.
Yup thats it.
I picked that thing up too.
It took me years to finally catch on to the way this movie was used by Costner to push the global climate warming change mess. First time I watched it and saw the polar caps melt and submerge the entire planet, I laughed my ass off. My science teacher got even more of a kick out of that!
Great comment/truth spot!
Esse filme é muito bom já assisti varias vezes e nunca enjoa .👍👍🙏🏻🙏🏻💥💥🆗🆗
They had one of the movie trimarans in the lake at Universal Studios Florida back when I worked there. She was impressively big/
The movie had some great scenes and could have been a bit more than it was overall. Kostner nailed the role though.
Mad max on different universe.
The star of the movie was the boat and all those Rube Goldberg's he had rigged up on it. I've re-watched many times over the years.
Ummm, he might've broken the mast but he wouldn't have broken the rigging. He would've been dragging the other boat. Still a good movie though.
If I won the lottery that Trimaran is one of the ridiculous things I would buy.
What a sight...On the big screen.
Sure, the script sucked and it could have been a much better movie, but it was fun to watch as a kid.
I wonder if they still have the Water World Show at Universal Studios in Los Angeles. It wasn't a bad show.
In Florida, they still had it in Summer 2022.
@@PeterHonnice!!
nice to know that a man smoking a cigar in a sailboat can out run jet skies,,.
I found that movie overall kinda crappy, cheesy - but that boat was FCKNG AWESOME!!!! 🤩
This movie must have been incredibly difficult to film
Is it me or does this feel like Water Mad Max? Ocean Max? You get what I mean.
I can see why this movie cost so much.
Looks great.
✌️
Aw, sweet revenge. Life's pleasures must be simple and few when there's nothing but sea and sky.
0:48 "What can I say?"
3:02 What can I say?
Один из лучщих фильмов шедевр.
Don't understand why people hate this movie and The Postman. They are MOVIES from someone's imagination, I like them.
I very much liked the Postman. Nothing better than the way it ended between the Postman and Bethlehem when they finally brought their two armies together, but I especially like the way it builds up that its the little things that lead to building up civilization. How bringing communication back sparked the fire in everyone to stand together again instead of apart. In the end, nothing beats the final scene where you learn what became of the world he ended up bringing so much happiness to by putting on a dead man's uniform and trying to con a hot meal out of a nearby town.
never heard of anyone disliking this movie.
I went to the cinema to watch Waterworld(1995) movie twice, and the movie is old as the two cinemas in which I watched the movie were demolished!
Mad Max on water.
Never understood why this movie got so much hate. I liked it.
no matter what ur opinion on this movie, this movie was blockbuster during its time
Well, no. It actually lost money, and it just break even when the movie released on home video. The movie was nominated for a Razzie for the Worst Movie that year, and Denis Hopper actually won the Razzie for the worst supporting actor. You cannot classify this movie as a "blockbuster".
We were kids, this movie was cool back then for us. That's all.
I remember this movie when I saw it the first time as Mad Max
I never saw Waterworld. For now I'm going to assume that the bag contains the same thing as the box from the end of Seven...
Paper… like have you ever seen paper?
10
as if jet ski couldnt catch up
It's funny how he calls it "water world" instead of simply, "the world."
i don't remember a lot about this movie. where did they get gas to run the jetskis?
They have seized a massive oil tanker.
John Dutton man
needs a remake
Dances With Tuna...
I'm surprised the sleazy guy didn't tell the Mariner to take it up with consumer affairs.
It would be great idea to make Mad Max but change sand to water!
Take something that someone spent time working and caring for a long time, expect some smokers to get ya.. lolo
A lot of hate for this movie and I suppose it deserves it. However, at its core it's a good story. It could have been executed so much better. I give it a 4 out of 10.
Sharks: What racket are those fools are doing up there. Shall we take a look?
yeah.....i was going to check this too, so many to check....looking at Minotaur and Theseus now...then white stuff, then i ll move to that......but i am also doing mormon craft at the same time which is very numerical....who fed me this ???? Caroline?
People who wonder why this bombed in the 90s don't understand how powerful centralised media was then. "Waterworld is disastrously over budget! Waterworld is an expensive bomb!" is all anyone heard, and then when it came out surprise surprise it flopped and eventually only barely covered its cost. Sure, it has a weird tone and can't decide whether it wants to be a swashbuckling kids' matinee or a darker Mad Max dystopia, but the Ulysses (extended) cut is a lot of fun and much more coherent. A little bit like Kingdom of Heaven in that regard.
I often reference the guy who says "paper, it's paper" and not one person has ever gotten the reference.
