I've always really liked this movie, I was ten years old when I watched Waterworld for the first time and I've probably watched it at least a hundred times in the decades since. I really like how nearly the entire movie was shot with practical effects, aside from the CGI giant fish attack it is a movie that I would consider as timeless, to a first time viewer it would be hard to pin down when it was made if it weren't for that CGI fish attack. But yeah, numbers, I think I'm going to give it a 9.5/10, with the CGI fish being the sole reason for the -.5, it just looks so awfully dated now, much like George Lucas's CGI edits of Star Wars in the 90's (I want the original, uncut, untouched theatrical release that is harder to find than a leprechaun's gold at midnight🙄), the CGI add-ons look so out of place and are not needed. Practical effects, including miniatures, are the best all the time, I'm sick of all the CGI in movies these days, producers are really overdoing it. Practical effects lend a serious sense of reality, where CGI can be spotted in a heartbeat and takes from the immersion, which in essence is a large role in my love for Waterworld, it makes it feel like a real and believable world (except for the damn fish lol).
