    Most informative and some valuable insight into my condition . That was caused by wearing shoes too tight my whole foot or feet were compressed I know I have nerve damage. And I'm working on self-therapy but now this is giving me some insight to really look into it further and perhaps make an appointment with the foot doctor I'm in Canada London Ontario.

    I have a left 3rd MTPJ instability. No pain at all, but feels like the FDB slips laterally off the FDL when walking, and when doing calf-raise, and when palpating. Running is symptom-free. Only 1 week with this symptom. I run 13km every other day (now halted). Is this description logical? Will it heal? Do I need days/weeks off? Just looking for some thoughts, as no information I can find on this early/minimal symptom.

    I wish I could have found you before I went to three different doctors! Being born with a short first metatarsal bone on both feet and having a long "second toe" and being active on my feet through the years i now have a tear in my plantar plate in BOTH feet! Can't stand the "V" toes and sad that open toe shoes are a thing of the past with me. I just started taping toes and using metatarsal pads. I will be looking into getting orthotdics (spell?). Can you recommend a specific shoe/sneaker? The last dr I seen said surgery is not recommended because I also suffer with RA.

    Probably best to avoid the cortisone injection. Don't think there's any good data demonstrating that they help healing and improve outcomes in the long term, and comes with risk of further damage to the ligament. A certain amount of acute inflammation is necessary for the healing process, though it's of course extremely important to avoid further aggravating the injury.

    • @TheDrFoot
      @TheDrFoot  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends, the type and amount of cortisone injected and if you can be relatively sure that it is capsulitis. I have injected 1000's of patients with capsulitis with no adverse effects.

      @@TheDrFoot well I think you may well be right, but consider that you often won't know if there are adverse effects. Often the patient will simply go to another Doctor if they find themselves worse after a treatment. And sometimes the adverse effects don't manifest immediately but take time to become apparent. You would not necessarily know about all the adverse effects. Still, I take you at your word regarding your own practice. Anyway, thank you for all this good information you put out there.

      @@rt193682 Thank you for your comment, I have a few mins before my next patient and I found your comment interesting, let the following information serve as a guide for patients and clinicians. It is good practice to provide the patient with electronic pain and function diary post intervention which the patient completes for 3 weeks post injection and submits electronically, this will give the clinician especially in private practice a understanding of post procedural complications, secondly it is also good practice to book the patient in for a 14 day review either in person or via video. I would say 70% of my patients now visit me from around the world so in most cases it’s a video review for myself. Out of the many injections I do for the foot, ankle and knee this is relatively simple.

    Hi there,
    I have been diagnosed with a partial tear of the planter plate ligament. This was in October of last year and till date, the problem has not improved. In addition, I have always suffered collapsed arches and have always been wearing orthotics and good shoes recommended by my podiatrist. I have been seeing a specialist with regards to my planter plate ligament tear who prescribed an injection of steroids which I got about three months ago. While initially there was some reduction in pain, it has gotten worse since I have gone back to work. I do wear good shoes at work too ( Brooks addiction walker 2). My job is mostly a standing job and after I have come home and rested, I really struggle to walk again. My question is, how long on average would it take for a condition like this to go away? I have now had it since October and it is really affecting me mentally as I am not able to do the things I enjoy like swimming, physical exercise etc.

    What happens if you get hammer toe? I also have a bunion. I was running and had a sudden pain…nothing prior. It’s been 18 months with periods of rest but no improvement. Originally thought it was a neuroma. There is some nerve pain and discomfort probably caused by both conditions, but probably not the main problem. What complications can arise if untreated with what seems to be a surgical next step? You mentioned plantar fasciitis. Anything else? Thank you

    • @TheDrFoot
      @TheDrFoot  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You need to be scanned, either a ultrasound scan or MRi to confirm diagnosis, possible surgical and conservative options will be discussed when the extent of the injury is assessed

    I've been diagnosed with a plantar plate tear and capsulitis (and, apparently, bursitis in the toes) via MRI, just as your video describes. My podiatrist tried the injection but I was back to the same condition after a couple of weeks, so not I'm wearing a boot, but is it open-toed and, even when inflated, allows for movement of my foot while walking. Is this correct, as the pain seems to be somewhat worse now, or am I just adapting to wearing a boot without my usual orthotics? Wish I was in the UK, as I'd come and see you personally - thanks!

    • @TheDrFoot
      @TheDrFoot  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The pain should not be worse with the boot as the idea is to offload the area. As you have torn the plantar plate what was injected?

    • @larrymannino444
      @larrymannino444 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheDrFoot thanks for getting back to me; actually, nothing was injected for the MRI (dye?), but in reference to the other injection, he said it was a 'mixture' of cortisone and, apparently, a couple of other non-specific things, and the injection was through the top of my foot adjacent to the second metatarsal - not sure if that helps, but thank you.

      @@TheDrFoot Hi, no - sorry for the confusion: I did not have a dye injection prior to the MRI. I did have a cortisone 'mix' about 3 months ago to attempt to address the capsulitis, and the plantar plate tear was what my doctor said the MRI (without dye) indicated. Great video. I have been told After ultra sound xrays and MRI I have a small plantar plate tear and looks to be cellulitis been ongoing for 7 months is this too long to fix without surgery? Was told to tape /Velcro toe splint ,wear orthodics and exercise for 2 months end of September or may need a surgery. Questions how long do you tape/splint for ? All day all night including sleep? it is painful and whats the purpose of this will the tear heal? Can I do cardio by riding airdyne fan bike? Can I lift weights at the gym if taped and wearing Hokas with orthodics which I am doing? How much rest is need as I work on my feet and exercise daily. Also their isnt much for plantar plate exercises online and some of them contradict the info for putting strain on that area. Wish my podiatrist answered these questions.

      @@chris_allupinya5613 Damn i am sorry to hear this. May 18th of this year? Was this your original injury or did you have a prior one last year when you wrote the initial comment? Surgery on the foot sucks, I have had several of them. Hope it works for you. I don't think mine is nearly as severe as yours. I don't have any swelling or obvious deformity at all. There's no full tear or cross over/hammertoe. I think there is just a small tear or some fluid that is stuck in the joint capsule and gets re-stretched every time I walk. Going on 3 months now. Nothing works. Pain is at a 4/10 with walking and sometimes even a 2 or 3/10 at rest.

      Dr Foot Podiatry I’d do anything to send you a picture of my foot and get your opinion based solely on what I point out to you. Originally I thought it was a neuroma, then another doctor leaned more towards plantar, and I’m learning about 2nd toe Capsulitis from you and a few other doctors. I live in a small town where I don’t fully trust the care when both doctors say something different and one wanted to immediately do surgery. Could I email you a picture? It would be such a good example of your talk.
