I got a plantar plate strain from accidentally stomping some sharp gravel on a trail run. I remedied the pain and weird shape with rest, foot-strengthing exercises, hot water soaks, and massaging it out nightly before bed. Now I'm back to running 30 miles a week in completely flat 8mm-thick flexible sandals. Still got V-toes a bit, but my foot is strong. I still don't understand how orthotics don't just cause the muscles in your feet to atrophy. Going barefoot as much as possible has helped heal most problems I've had.
Thank you for the helpful information , I have lived with this for 3 years now and tried everything but the orthotic, I have been taping my foot , wearing softer shoes and toe wraps to tape the two toes together and it never got any better but I have nerve damage from a back surgery so my feet are always numb and sometimes painful so it's a tough case 😊
I have a planter tear also and my toe is apart it use to be so painful i was recommended surgery but i didn't the toe is move from the big toe but im not in pain anymore about two years now do i still need surgery
Very very helpful!! Thank you!

I had a tendon transfer and since since there's a big gap between my big & second toe, could I also have plantar plate tearing ?
