I’m a Blackburner born and bred and I have always had a fascination with the Leeds/Liverpool canal as it passes right through the heart of the town, just skirting the town centre.
I have walked the towpath from Infirmary locks in Blackburn to as far as Skipton, which was broken up into two separate walks. My intention is to eventually resume the walk from Skipton and finish at Leeds, then restarting at infirmary locks to make my way towards Liverpool. It’s been a few years but I haven’t yet resigned to not doing it.
Thanks for the video, it was really interesting to see the start of the longest canal in Britain, hopefully I will see it for myself soon.

more of swim really for the most the extended the canal!, the main reason there no tow path (so canal boat horse power your better be a good swimmer! and some parts there isn't even sides in the dockland parts, only marker boys in the water, marking a watery path?

Amazing stuff George, what history we have right on our Doorstep. I started serving my Apprenticeship, just around the corner from the Bridge at Great Howard street end in No3 Glegg street, 1976. Tate & Lyle was still going strong in those days, in fact we used to do the overspill that their Workshops couldn't handle when they were busy. The amount of industry around there in those days was amazing. There were Cafe's all along Great Howard street and during the day they were chocker block with the lads that worked around. Happy Days 👍👍

Great video. I knew about the canal spur but never heard of the two bridges. The concrete work under the Chisenhale Street bridge looks fairly new and must have been done to strengthen the bridge (cast iron looks very nice but it is not that strong). That Burlington Street bridge should still be there as you can still see the parapets. I guess that would have similar strengthening. Normally, if there is any kind of structure, access should be provided for inspection. Then they might just have filled it in with mass concrete.

sorry if i have told you this before but i was a joiner for clayton and dorsman in little st bride st They had maitanace joiners in all the public buildings in liverpool. Iworked in the municipl annex for a few weeks and the joiner who was based there Dave wynn took me in the sub basement where the old boilers where situated. In there there was a tunnel going into dale st then left towards the pier head. his story was these tunnels provided a draught fot the coal boilers to send heat around the building. If you look above the door frames in the building you can see the vents for thr heat. I got to see under most of the buildings including St georges hall where the floors are held up with beams under the foor. Pity there where no smart phones in those days to take photos.

Me and my mate used to go in the big old buildings on Dale street, opposite side to the old magistrates courts. One we went in we went down some stairs and came into an alley that was enclosed all around but open to the sky. The opposite side to were we came in had a row of low arch doorways. The warehouse next to the Mercedes Dealership used to belong to the Leeds & Liverpool Canal Company, in 2018 I was delivering cars to Mercedes, there was a guy on a JCB with a pecker going at the brickwork that supported a huge decorated wrought iron gate with the L&L logo that bridged over the top, I asked if it was going to a museum, nah said the driver its scrap, and there my friends is a huge waste of Liverpool heritage.
