    Roy Choi is one of the coolest doods in LA. Super down to earth and cool. If you ever get a chance to talk with him, take advantage of it.

      Just dont ask him anything about the east coast because apparently he thinks we dont have any mexican joints over here while that aint the case. He has to get his ass over to NY and i'll show him chicharron and home made masa from 10 spots off the top of my head that would blow his mind away compared to the LA shit.

      @@KEN117MC there's barely any mexican joints on the east coast, not like there are in the west. It's sooo much better over there.

    It's nice to hear that there are other Asians who felt depressed and outcast for not being a high dollar atom splitters. I do what I love and am now encouraged. Thank you, Eddie and Roy.

      I had a recent brief e-mail exchange with a friend of former friend... he's Chinese-American, 30s, like me. I was telling him how I've been ostracized and often mistreated by my own Chinese people my whole life, even though I continue to learn parts of the culture and can communicate decently in Cantonese. Never met him in person, but he has a high position in a hedge fund (which probably means he's doing very well). He was quite nice, but one thing he said to me stung: "People judge you by your job position: keep progressing or become obsolete." That mentality is disturbing; so my personality, level of self-education, etc., none of those other qualities are enough for me to be treated with respect? All that matters is "job title" and "greatness of salary"?

      @Adrian Ctu I don't remember what I wrote, and I think I don't want to read it back. I was extra angsty that year. Yikes.

    I have so much love for Roy Choi and what he has down for LA! I remember I was in high school when Kogi first started. 2 hour lines to get amazing food! I still go to their trucks from time to time. Nothing beats a spicy pork burrito and coke. Killer combination!

    If you don't eat meat try nopales. That means cactus, pronounced "No-Paul-Ez." As long you got horchata & homemade tortillas you're eating authentic. After that it's whatever meat you like or can afford. Some people can only afford cactus & beans, tortillas & rice water.

    3:30 That's basically every Asian family I know in America.
    Your parents won't "force" you into a certain career field, but they'll make you feel like shit if you're not an engineer, doctor, lawyer or similar. Try convincing an Asian parent to pay for four years of tuition at Berkeley as an art major... it ain't gonna happen. LOL

    • @C.Hawkshaw
      @C.Hawkshaw 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Tecumseh Sherman This is second generation middle class mentality. The funny thing is that the parents discover too late, when their child is 35 and an alcoholic, that sending your kid to Berkeley as an art major is old money, brown money move. High staus stuff. But by then the kid is demoralized, literally. Best to watch the kid and see what they are good at, what they pursue, and support that.

    On the topic of eating food prepared by locals with local ingredients whether it's meats, vegetables, etc, that one dude is undoubtedly correct: for the past couple decades we've been eating shit that's easy to grab & eat on the go, little-to-no preparation required (i.e. pop tarts, hamburger helper, etc), but thanks to guys like Huang, the internet, social media, etc future generations will have access to information and statistics that past generations didn't have. And we're only at the beginning of realizing things like growing your own food, eating local meats, etc is indisputably better than buying processed garbage with tons of preservatives, dyes, etc

    im pretty sure they just re-released the old Fresh of the boat under a new name.. I've seen all of these before.

    • @partykrew666
      @partykrew666 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      he's doing a show based on eddie's life with a tv network and they're stealing the name "fresh off the boat". so vice has to change the name of this show.

    • @Mightytufo
      @Mightytufo 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      if that's the case the "huang's world" video only serves to confuse. What I got from the "huang's world" video they were making a new series called huang's world, not renaming the old show, and making a new show with the old title (fresh off the boat)..

    • @partykrew666
      @partykrew666 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      fresh off the boat will be a sit-com or something on tv with actors. haungs world will be the new food/culture show featuring eddie huang. they had to redo the opening to change it so they dont get sued, thats why they have to reupload all the old episodes. the new episodes are in the making i believe.

    I enjoy the shared culture in LA. Its like only yesterday me and my work group are finishing up a mountain trail for firefighters or planting Indigenous Chaparral plant life for a program. Afterwards we take my moms car to a Vietnamese co-worker/homie's family restaurant in China town to chill with him and the Salvadorian home girl to piece up (smoke together) with Rasta who didn't have ends to match up (share the bill) but Juice puts in for him (pays his tab) at the cannabis dispensary bar with our trusty medical cards. Later I go to LA trade tech and build robots while faded and the rest go to their classes as part of the same program as our jobs. Eventually most graduate or are still in school, half with honors. These aren't confused Asians you rat bastards but mutually respected Los Angelino Minority members and non but we still kick it. If you choose not to understand all the cultural context such as colloquial dialects and integration because China Town is right next to East LA, you could misinterpret them as being confused.

      Mike Pineda Roy's OG so he probably is a little behind but he's correct in the sense that the West had a lot more shit initially because of immigration patterns and that's not only in regards to people with Latino backgrounds. There's plenty of shit in the East Coast that came to the West Coast later, I'm sure.

Been in NY my whole life and i can tell you without a doubt, that shits fuckin everywhere. you cant be riding up to manhattan and going to china town and expecting to find mexicans selling chicharron n shit. around the block theres a place you can get fresh chicharron at. and 2 blocks away you get those big n cripsy chip like chicharron pieces. im actually a lil surprised Eddie didn't correct him. NYC is one of the biggest cu ltural melting pots in the world, if not the biggest in the US. Specially in queens. that guy dont know wtf hes talking about. Much love to Eddie though, hes still the man. right next to action bronson.
