    This country was not founded for Judeo Christians. Trust me when I say one of the best things a country can have is a separation between church and state.

I think what she was trying to say there is that water is the most essential ingredient of life and it's everywhere. So the fact that corporations have found a way to trick us into thinking that we should pay for water is crazy. Now that's a good point but why the fuck she thinks that has anything to do with trump is beyond me.

      She just spouted bullshit conspiracy theories like Sharia Law on American soil and Hillary pushing radical islamic terrorism. I mean come on, we can't just let people perpetuate this bullshit.
      edit: and now Bernie is a communist and she yearns for the days of McCarthyism. Jeeeeeeeeeeesus.

    • @leorodriguez267
      @leorodriguez267 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      You can't fight against ignorance by blasting people with facts or shouting louder than they are. If you learn where they are coming from and the reasons why they believe the conspiracies and theories, you will be able to dismantle and change more views than if you aggressively attack.
      She was fed lies by her father all of her life, i don't blame her for believing the things she does. It is quiet sad really, but calling her out won't change a thing. Try to be more patient with the right side and learn where they are coming from. This is coming from a Mexican American who has been yelled at and discriminated by conservative right in the past.

      Yeah its even more terrible than what most people think. I was born in the USSR and I came to America for a reason. The government has no right to take money from someone rich and give it to someone poor just because there is an income disparity. There is equality of opportunity in this country, and everyone who puts in the work can succeed. To argue otherwise is simply foolish. I came to this country with the clothes on my back and have worked hard to build a great life for myself. For that, I'm extremely grateful. Go take your garbage leftist ideology somewhere else. At 3:08, did she seriously just say that she's against "water privatization" but then go on to say that it's our right to buy bottled water? I'm speechless. Bruh, this is staged right?

    • @woudgy
      @woudgy 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      No, she was saying "that's your right" meaning the water - and that the person is voting with their dollar to allow it to be privatised. It was striking, I thought, given her knee-jerk fear of socialism, that she finds privatisation a threat.

    • @JeffT329
      @JeffT329 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      woudgy
      Yeah, I agree. It's odd that someone so against "socialism" would be against privatized water (or _for_ communally-provided water). I think she just may have been confused and switched "privatized" with "public." But I'm not sure if your analysis is right. She said, "Every time I see people buying bottled water, you know... That's your (their) right (to do so)." So she's referring to _buying_ water as the "right" as opposed to simple access to the water itself.
      Perhaps you are right though, she really isn't the most clear communicator. It's a bit ambiguous the way she expresses those sentiments.

    • @woudgy
      @woudgy 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Pio Day I'd say the most accurate label you could put on her is, "confused".

    • @woudgy
      @woudgy 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Jeff T I understood her as saying that it's the water that's "your right", not the purchasing of it. It's the only reading that makes sense with her statement about privatisation. Which, of course, makes no sense with her vilification of socialism. Her mind is far too vulnerable to influence, and she badly needs some education in critical thinking. Her father sounds like a piece of work, so I'm not really surprised she wasn't encouraged to learn how to think for herself. She seems like she wants to, but lacks the critical faculties. Those can be developed.

    • @JeffT329
      @JeffT329 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Derek Zhou What you said makes no sense. She's against the privatization of water, meaning the process of a PRIVATE company gaining propriety over a body of water then selling it to customers for profit. When she says she's ok with people buying bottled water, like from a supermarket, from whom do you think she's buying said bottled water? A company that is privatizing said water and profiting off of it. You can't be AGAINST privatization of water then be FOR buying it for consumption from a PRIVATE company which requires... You guessed it, the PRIVATIZATION of that water.

    Great Point, Huang. I never thought about the question, "At which point in time do you think America became great?" 1800s? The girl did give off a fear-vibe. Fear that realizing that maybe Judeo-Christian values are quickly becoming nostalgia. Most people strongly correlate religion to self identity. Imagine what that must be like when a majority of people start labeling your "Values" as ancient, old, and nostalgic? She must feel that the Future doesn't even want her and she won't belong. Where she feels safe and powerful is in the Past. That may be where fellow Trump supporters are trying to take this county - to the Past.

    • @GrothendiecksWish
      @GrothendiecksWish 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It's important to be civil in discourse but at some point you're going to have to push harder to change minds. Eddie let her slide but that's something you would have to challenge hard in order for her to realize its false.

    • @pietrocarini7455
      @pietrocarini7455 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Fernando Reyes That's true. At a certain point you will have to address the accuracy of claims. The only problem which I have experienced as a person who is less patient and more persistent on correcting false claims is that when a person's beliefs are really ingrained they are more likely to simply disregard everything you have to say if you push too hard. For example, it was pretty clear that she greatly respected the perspective of her dad who was clearly a proponent of far right propaganda. If you were to tell her the truth which is that her dad's beliefs are misguided well she would probably just close off to you immediately. Maybe he would be able to go a little deeper the next time they meet because she probably will remember this meeting as a positive experience. In any case, I'm talking ideals. It's much harder for me to walk the walk when I am in this situation. Also, I'm all for civil disobedience and protest. That has it's place too, and I engage when I see fit. I'm only saying that when it comes to interpersonal dialogue I think it's important to try and engage in the way that this guy does it.

    Well done to both of them for conducting a calm and controlled political discussion. This is something that very few people can achieve, particularly when they are personally invested in their topic content. Sure, we saw no minds changed in that interaction, but when you are able to have a calm discourse like that it is more possible that the other person will walk away and ponder things you said as opposed to focussing on on angst or discord exchanged. By maintaining respect for the different sides the possibility of a constructive outcome is increased.

I still don't understand, but now that my anger and disappointment has dissipated a little, I've shifted my energy to opening my mind, and heart, and trying to genuinely understand. The major issue I'm having in this is that most of the Tump supporters I talk to are just angry, and can't really articulate why. This young lady doesn't articulate her points all that well, but it's refreshing to hear a discussion without anger overshadowing everything. That's a good foundation to start on.
