Hi Dr. Waldman, recently started Doxycycline 100mg/day for type 2 and am wondering what the best treatment should be during this period to introduce new topicals while my skin is calm and under control. As well as to ensure I can get off antibiotics without a major rebound. Thanks!

I've tried numerous rosacea treatments, but DermalMD Rosacea Serum stands out. It has improved the appearance of my skin and made it feel more comfortable.

Caffeine is the worst trigger for me. I was having about 5 cups of tea a day. After work I would flush quite bad. I quit caffeine and it’s improved. Stress is also a trigger. I have permanently red cheeks and forehead but it’s manageable and not that noticeable. When I get a flare up it gets very red and I get sore bumps and dry skin on my forehead. I found a good skin ointment called ‘Balmonds Skin Salvation’ that’s helped a lot. It’s reduced the dry skin and bumps on my forehead and made it manageable without taking prescribed medication. Hope that helps someone. 👍🏼

It’s great that you’ve been able to identify your triggers. I’ll check out the Balmonds Skin Salvation. I’m always looking for new things to help!

The only thing I can't get under control is my broken capillaries. How to stop the new ones from coming? Ugh
Also, it's more frustrating on my brown skin. I'm so scared to get laser treatment. Any suggestions doctor?

Trying to figure out if you have triggers like spicy food, caffeine can help reduce new blood vessels. Generally PDL performed by a trained professional is safe in dark skin if you avoid sun 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after

How much it reduces redness or can clear it ?

Laser? It can reduce it significantly but does require several treatments and often 1-2 maintenance treatments every year

Nobody who has rosacea is going to agree with this advice 😂 rosacea is an internal condition and you can heal it by healing internal imbalances. Period. Sad to see derm doctors so uneducated about such widespread condition. You will never ever truly heal it by lasers. You also have to be mindful about not ruining your skin barrier and using all sorts of unhealthy potions on your skin that often do more bad then good. If you truly want to heal rosacea , study with healing your gut and liver. And addressing other causes of your body inflammation as this is what causes rosacea.

Thanks for this. I agree that these medications are not a cure. There’s good literature that’s coming out showing a correlation between rosacea and gastrointestinal illness like ulcerative colitis, celiac, and Sibo and that treating these syndromes could help.

@@doctor-abbyBoth inside and out, that's what rosacea treatment needs to be.

Dermatologists are trained to treat the problem, not fix the root cause of something.
If your hand’s on fire every week, a dermatologist is trained to put it out with water, not look into why you end up with a hand on fire.
It sucks, but it is what it is.
Also hurts repeat business if they cure everyone they come across.
If a cure was given for every skin issue, a massive business would be wiped out.
