Thank you for this! I've been suffering with perioral dermatitis for about 9 months now. It's also moved around one of my eyes. I'm 66 and used to have beautiful skin. I hope I can get this to go away, and I completely agree with you that a lot of it has to do with current skincare regime.
I watched your videos a couple of months ago when I had perioral/ocular dermatitis and tried the Rozex cream - this really did clear up my skin and I am so grateful for your advice. Before that, I tried zero therapy and other various methods which didn't really work or didn't clear up my skin completely. I was in a really bad place before I watched your videos which gave me hope, and I've now been free of PD for a few months! Had about 2 weeks where I got a flare up due to a sheet mask I tried, but I used the rozex again and it did thankfully clear up. If anyone is suffering from this condition, definitely try rozex and the other creams she recommends. Thank you so much Nadine, you have no idea how happy I am to have found your videos.
I’ve been having perio oral dermatitis for a few years it’s caused by over use of l skin care which gets particularly sensitive after a long haul flight. When I see the first sign I use a zinc face wash, azelaic acid and strip back my skin care to just a moisturiser. After a couple of days I’m good to go. Thank goodness for azelaic acid.
Thanks Nadine! That was super useful. I was having bouts of perioral dermatitis that turned out to be related to food sensitivities. I am also very sensitive to skin care products so it took me a long time to figure out what was causing it. Just a thought though for others, the original problem might be an allergic reaction to something you are eating. Also, for me it is not an immediate response so it was very hard to figure out what food was causing the problem. I definitely first started out by stopping all of my skin care and makeup. When that didn't clear it up I moved on to thinking about foods and eventually figured out I was allergic to almonds. Anyhow just another thought for sufferers. Thanks again for your super helpful info!
It was caused by gluten for me - turned out I was also coeliac which once I removed every trace of it from my diet hasn’t come back since (touch wood!)
Perioral dermatitis is also associated with Seborrheic Dermatitis, types of Alopecia and PCOS. My Derm prescribed oral spironolactone and topical pimecrolimus cream (not cortisone or steroid, but a local immunosuppressant.) Went away and never came back.
I lived with perioral dermatitis for a year, I never tried this cream, but I’ve been using the De La Cruz sulfur mask/acne treatment and it’s worked wonders. My Derm wanted to give me antibiotics, but I try to avoid antibiotics for anything that isn’t super serious. The sulfur cream made the Dermatitis disappear. I use it nightly while I brush my teeth to keep it away. I’m happy to hear this cream worked for you! Thank you for sharing.
I am just so happy that I came across your videos for perioral dermatitis! I have been dealing with a flare-up for at least six months now. The first time I got it was 2019. This time I went to a dermatologist. She told me in February that it is PD. I've always used hydrocortisone and now I know that is why my flare-ups last so long. But this doctor gave me prescription strength steroid! I have now stopped using that and requested the metronidazole cream. I feel like it's on the road to improvement now. Thank you so so so much for sharing what has worked for you ❤ it is helping
Fantastic advice Nadine! I’ve suffered with perioral dermatitis for twenty years and concur with you regarding treatment. Fortunately my doctor recognised it immediately and prescribed a course of antibiotic followed by repeat prescription for rozex cream . I’m extremely careful to only use the simplest and most gentle skincare and I check everything for the things that trigger my skin, fragrance, essential oils, alcohol and sunlight, so a good spf is important. Cleanliness is essential and never let anyone else use your makeup or brushes!
I’ve now got Azelaic Acid on prescription after having Hydrocortisone / Mizancole which made it worse. Azelaic Acid does help but I think I have rosacea now too. Which I’d defo stress triggered. My PD was triggered by coming off the contraceptive pill and it always gets better if I go back on it. Strangely enough essential oils aren’t a trigger as I find Emma Hardie skincare care one range I can use and it does improve my PD. Weird.
Over the years I've had oral antibiotics, gel (yuk), and last time Bactrim antibiotic cream which worked really well. Avoid all actives in that area till clear & don't let toothpaste drip down your chin. Mine is currently nice and clear but I have Bactrim in hand in case.
Thank you Nadine. You’ve described my problem so perfectly. It’s in the marionette lines and I’ve tried so many things to try and fix it. I’m ashamed to say that I started using a dab of Vaseline Dermacare every day, morning and evening, because I’m scared to stop and have it come back. I can’t have the dry crusty itchy face again. Mine started, and is always triggered by, any type of facial tan product. Every single one. Would that sound likely? Might it be an ingredient in it?
It was so good to listen to your video. Thank you so much for your help! I have been prescribed 3 different products by my GP - firstly steroid! followed by 2 different gels. Thankfully I watched your video whilst I was on the gel format of Metronidazole (which wasn't really helping) and immediately asked my GP to re-prescribe the Metronidazole in the cream format - following your advice. This is helping more so; what a relief thank you! Do you think Apple Cider Vinegar is helpful too? Thanks so much again; so good to listen to your own experience and your learnings & advice - really helpful!!!
Thanks Nadine, that was so helpful. Recently been diagnosed with perioral dermatitis and didn't know what to do. Your video has really helped advise me on the best products I should use. What sunscreen would you recommend?
3 weeks in and i can say this stuff definitely works Although its very slow I had good effects 4 days in!! after that it stayed controlled and the redness went down. I had one flare up but it stayed controlled and didnt spread. Now its just been slowly going away. Its not completely gone but I feel one more month and it should gone!!!!!! Only thing is that its a pricey cream especially if you dont have insurance
Thank you Nadine for sharing your wonderful knowledge!!! I have rosacea I take great care of what I use on my sensitive skin. I never use anything fragranced or even Essential oil! That sounds like a recipe for desastre! My skin started to flair up I thought originally that it was my rosacea but no it’s periodal dermatitis! I booked an appointment to my dermatologist and found out today! But thankfully my skin was a little relieved and I was able to wait for this appointment for 2 weeks … using this miraculous serum from la roche posay! I didn’t know they did a cream I will look for it too!!!! Thank you so much Nadine! I love your channel and videos they are a world of knowledge and wisdom!
I think one of the reasons why it doesn't get better is that we dont know the triggers. Funnily enough i've had it for so long and searched so much I started to notice that it is very similar to others who have had it on their eyelids and said it's from gel nails / any other LED lamp manicures. So i stopped putting anything on my nails and the pharmacy said to try hayleve which is an antihistamine and that cleared up the redness pronto. I kept skincare at a minimum because antibiotics did 0 naught nada zilch to clear it up. Did two courses of 8 weeks over less than a year and it did not help. Helped with my acne but not with the PD. Then i realized they're kinda separate and i've just stopped the antihistamines 2 days ago and im even afraid to say but so far so good. Bear in mind i've not had anything on my nails for 3 months now. I will try the la roche posay toleriane(massive fan of roche posay) the only hesitation i got is over the price. 😢
Thanks to you Nadine, you diagnosed my problem when i had it. I think it was a Retinol3 product that caused it that id bought from a shopping channel. Our GPs dont even see patients. I had to send a pic and she prescribed me the exact one u said works for you. It took a while to get rid of it. She said to only use it for a certain time 6wks. Still took a while to go though. I cant use fragranced products either. Now I'm extra cautious of any new products and tend to stick to things that are for super sensitive skin. Thanks again for your fab advice. Xxxx
I always have little red spots and overall redness around my mouth, I struggled with acne on chin and jaws so I've been on retinoids non stop and am always applying them around the chin area. I think maybe the retinoids worsen those lesions which if they are PD and not acne. If they are, it is a very very mild case. I also use Azelaic Acid prescription and does help with overall redness but not so much with the little bumps. I might try the product you've mentioned to see if it makes a difference to this lifelong problem
I got the cream script today. Thank you. 6 months of cortisone. Told my new dr they said yep let’s try rosex, if no good tetracycline next. Love your sincerely helpful vid
@@cam-ro5mb yeah it did but it’s taken 2 months to do anything. I can pinpoint my extra high fluoride toothpaste as a main trigger. Stopping that helped so much . Also azelic acid in the day helped so much too. Haven’t needed oral antibiotics yet!

Just figured out I have perioral dermatitis via google after a month of pain. Was able to obtain a topical antibiotic cream today and stumbled upon your video. Very helpful - and nice to know I’m not alone! I am currently using typology skin care as the US standards are mostly garbage imo - but I also am not very savvy with skin care/make up. Would you consider typology a safe option for my PD? Also, I will be finding a dermatologist, but what do you say to a dermatologist that recommends facials as part of treatment? My fear is I’ll go to apt and apt and they’ll all just push routine in house facial treatments.
Thanks for this Nadine - I have what was described as rosacea and was given rosex gel - makes me wonder if it’s really the dermatitis you’re talking about. Pustules around nose if I use wrong products etc, also sun and wind. I’ll have to ask docs to change to the cream x
omg, Nadine, I have rosacea and 8 months ago all of a sudden I develop perioral dermatitis and folliculitis. I'm still in the process of battling with it. cannot for the life of me put any foundation on (literally, not my old foundations nor pharmacy foundations), which makes it even worse...I'm desperate. I've been through a round of oral treatment and ivermectin, and my derm told me it's not finished yet, so I need to start the oral antibiotic again. Basically, we think it was treated by some cortisone injections I got for my tendinitis... I hope it stops. thanks for sharing all of this.
Thank you for this! Currently going through the worst flare up of perioral dermatitis after thinking the prescribed steroid cream, had cured it but now no it’s making it worse once I stop using it. Hoping this helps
I frequently get this and in the past found hydrocortisone made it far worse. I do use it when i have a reaction just for a day or so. However, i recently had swollen itchy eyes (won't bore you with all the details but after treatment the optician prescribed an alternative - Protopic (tacrolimus) which they say works better for the face than the body. I ended up with this and my GP prescribed hydrocortisone even after I said I thought it was PD and asked for Rozex (I watched one of Nadines videos some time ago). A week or so later I had a scheduled appointment with a derm re a biopsy on my face and i mentioned it, but he gave me to Rozex gel and it’s still as bad as it was six weeks ago. Thanks Nadine for all of your helpful advice. Ps is it OK to use spf? The derm said not to put anything on. It
I got it for the first time when I exfoliated my face. Fortunately, my doctor recognised what it was straight away and gave me antibiotics that cleared it up in a few weeks. Stay away from cortisone.
I recently was diagnosed with PD (started after a chemical peel I did this spring ) and doctor prescribed Rosiver which is a 1% ivermectin cream. Have you heard of using this as an approach? Dermatologist said it can get worse before it gets better which isn't promising lol.
I came back here to say what you need and what worked for me. The ordinary Azelaic acid and Rozex cream she has in the thumbnail. That combination will do wonders I promise.
I used a steroid cream on my face and ended up with steroid face! It literally spread all over my face - my cheeks, my eyelids, round my nose (where it had begun as a little irritation (probably perioral dermatitis) It lasted about three months and was so bad I couldn't use anything on my face except plain yogurt. I used greek yogurt on it morning and night and then found a nappy rash cream with lots of zinc in which I used over night, but the itch was horrific. I ended up with scarring on my face, but those scars have thankfully have faded. I have since then only used Aven
Can anyone help? I've had an awful reaction to a Neutrogena face wash and I've cone out with this red, dry itchy face and neck. I've also started to get spots as well. I've been using my daughters Cetraben, for people with eczema and sensitive skin, and I'm not sure whether it's helping or making it worse. Please help it's driving me insane 😢😣☹️ P.s I've also taken allergy tablets and they've not helped. TIA
Hi Nadine can I ask how long did it take to clear up with metronidazole cream? And also did you find it went a little worse before it went better I started mine today.
In my case it’s opposite.. hudracortisone cream made it disappear and metridosonal cream made it very worse than actually it was .. it made my perioral dermatitis horrible
Hi Nadine. I was just wondering if you have any recommendation for seborrheic dermatitis. I have it in, and at the back's of my ears. Steroids clear it up. When i stop using them its back within a week. Thanks.
The last time I had a PD flare up all I used was Avene cicalfate and yes it cleared it up along with no other skincare except cleansing my face. I’m currently experiencing a flare up and I already had the la roche posay cicaplast on hand so I decided to use that instead but it doesn’t seem to be doing as great of a job. I may need more time though.
Hi Nadine … an amazing video and so helpful. From a flawless skin I thought I had adult acne at 70 including a swollen upper lip. GP said it would ‘go away!) Yesterday someone recognised it as PD - surgery very ill informed - gave me the gel which was so painful - now discovered your TH-cam totally invaluable - waiting for cream to arrive as well as your product recommendations. ONE QUESTION … what to do about lips, mine v red and sore. Sarah
I've been subscribed doxycycline for my perioral dermatitis for years when I get bad flare ups but sometimes I feel awful after taking them. I did some research and other people were calling it a devil drug so I really wanted something else to replace using the doxycycline everytime. So I've been to my gp today and mentioned you and the rozex cream at first she said that's a cream for rosacea but let me check online so she looked and it was there on her screen that it can be prescribed for perioral dermatitis. So I'm going to start trying the cream tonight. Thanks Nadine for the info and advice
Does the rozex cream help to get rid of PD? And also, I have PD under my eyes so can I use the cream for my eyes? Please respond and thank you for answering
@@anhdoan4453 I'm new to rozex cream myself. I've been applying it since Thursday evening and my flare up has gotten worse tbh but not sure if this is supposed to happen before it settles again. It says on the tube to avoid contact with eyes but doesn't say not to apply around the eye area. But I'd be careful and ask your gp first.
Hello Ms Nadine, I went to GP and asked for Rozex cream. I used it for 2 weeks, but the redness around my mouth didn't get better. Nothing changed. Now, I feel desperate. What should I do now?

I used greek yogurt on it morning and night and then found a nappy rash cream with lots of zinc in which I used over night, but the itch was horrific. I ended up with scarring on my face, but those scars have thankfully have faded. I have since then only used Aven
I'm 58 and developed pod. I'm allergic to metronidazole, what do you recommend Nadine?
I understand can use edilil very long either as it can cause cancer
Thank you, Nadine.
Hi Nadine!
How can I buy these online if I’m from Canada?
Can anyone help? I've had an awful reaction to a Neutrogena face wash and I've cone out with this red, dry itchy face and neck. I've also started to get spots as well. I've been using my daughters Cetraben, for people with eczema and sensitive skin, and I'm not sure whether it's helping or making it worse. Please help it's driving me insane 😢😣☹️ P.s I've also taken allergy tablets and they've not helped. TIA
When I had this the nurse told me it was acne and told me to use acnecide (benzoyl peroxide) which just made it so much worse!!!!
Hi Nadine can I ask how long did it take to clear up with metronidazole cream? And also did you find it went a little worse before it went better I started mine today.
hii, ive been using mine for nearly two weeks.. idk if its got worse or better. When did u start to see improvement (if you have) x?
In my case it’s opposite.. hudracortisone cream made it disappear and metridosonal cream made it very worse than actually it was .. it made my perioral dermatitis horrible
Is the Rosex cream safe to use during pregnancy?
Hi Nadine. I was just wondering if you have any recommendation for seborrheic dermatitis. I have it in, and at the back's of my ears. Steroids clear it up. When i stop using them its back within a week. Thanks.
Nizoral shampoo..
Lyonsleaf ZINC AND CALENDULA CREAM.
does the skin get worse after stoping elidel?
Has anyone had any success using Avene Cicaplast Cream on their perioral dermatitis?
I use la roche posay cicablast which has worked wonders alongside their toleraine range.
Avene has been a hit or a miss for me. It helps moisturize the dry flaky areas but doesn’t actually help clear the skin.
Love you
You have Great TH-cam channel
I believe Rozex is called Metrogel in the States, if that helps anyone.
Hello Ms Nadine, I went to GP and asked for Rozex cream. I used it for 2 weeks, but the redness around my mouth didn't get better. Nothing changed. Now, I feel desperate. What should I do now?
suffering for 8 years now.
I feel ya, am 29 and having this since am 24..
Important to keep battling and looking for variants from my understanding in a rather controlled setting.
Am really focusing on nutrition now for example
@@nadavkorene1848been there done that. After 8 years i finally cured it.
Theres this cream called ‘sulphur from dela cruze” it worked
Nadine do you realise how many times you touched your eyes and nose in this video, that can’t help! I know I’m guilty of it too but it made me think, I’m a hay fever sufferer too and it probably makes things worse for us x
