I live pretty far from ya, but I don't trust a single mechanic in my area or within even 150 Miles. How much do you charge for a diagnosis? I'd enjoy the opportunity to meet ya, and my first commuter car turned into my first project car. I'd be really excited to bring it to ya because I know how much you love Saturn Aura's! I'd love to find a local motel and have ya look at my hunk of junk and maybe pick your brain!
I just had the alternator (and battery) replaced on my '09 Camry. My mechanic chose a Denso. I was relieved to know that. I am one who is lucky to have an HONEST mechanic, in Southern California, no less.
Honest, and competent mechanics are worth their weight in gold. I used to use a mom and pop garage for 25 years, but the last time I was very disappointed. The old man that owned it has passed on, and it seems like the kids are not up to the same standards. It really sucks. More people need to get into that industry and they need to be paid more. I know that means more expensive service, but good service can save you thousands in the long run.
I had a '06 Corolla with a lean condition at 160K. Turns out the PCV valve was stuck open which explains why it ran a little rough at idle. This can cause the catalytic converter to fail, so replacing it every 50K miles could save you a bundle in the long run. And it's so easy that anyone can do it provided that you can find it, lol.
Me too. Also replaced bearing went bad just after warranty. My shop guy got the salesman to supply new ones free. And installed em at no cost to me. I don't know what brand he used.
Just did one at 51,500 in my 2018 Forester. Its a dirt road New England car. My parents who both have Outbacks did theirs around 70-80k miles. My shop said they get two Subarus a week with that problem. Its crazy how hard it is to get the hub bearings off, they rust to the backing plate and they need to smash it off basically, breaking bolts in the process so you need new bolts too. They showed me the old parts when I picked up the car, amazing stuff.
Yes the lack of a temperature gauge sucks. I put a OBD gauge on my Forester. Gee, it sure is nice to know normal temperature and be able to observe upward trends : -)

This vehicle has 62k miles and the trans is already starting to get worse. 7 more months, I’m out of this thing.
Notice all the signs of oil leakage when Scotty was shining the flashlight down by the heat sensor(?)? Subaru uses silicone, not gaskets when constructing engines and it does not hold up over time. Leaks can occur in many places. That and the fact that all tires must be replaced if a single tire is damaged beyond b/c of the all-wheel drive system are reasons some people will not have one.
Look at the year. That is not the one with silicon on the cam carrier. Oh well. I do hear you about the silicon and other adhesives used in the construction of new cars; but it is almost all of them now not just Suburu. For what it is worth it looked like water, it was raining. Yes, Tires are a cost problem with 4 wheel drive vehicles if one gets damaged.

Why does my 2014 Subaru Forester keep having issues with tire temp gauge. Have had one replaced last year and now another one is not registering correct (tires are inflated but gauge still on) A lady waiting for car repair at dealership had same issue....Any recalls?
My 2008 4 cyl Honda Accord has the same code p0171 crazy timing w this video haha . I'm also wondering if 2000 rpms around 60 65 mph is normal? I also think my gas mileage is getting shittier could that be from the fuel pump?
those debugging tablets really are invaluable 7:46 that's something that annoying me on my car. it doesn't have a gauge for the oil temp and pressure either. the car will only light up with warnings after one of these is in critical condition. idiotic user interface design in the name of minimalism
I forget when exactly but Subaru finally switched to the MLS head gaskets. This one I believe wasn't included in that timeframe. Most of us just change the head gaskets BEFORE they blow. 😂 Saves quite the headache later. My 2000 ob is almost to 300k. Cheers 🍻
Hi all! I read/watched/researched all i could on Subaru for almost 2 years before i actually decided to purchase. Its cars are held longer putting them on the roads over 10 years....longer than most other manufacturers. Also, if you cant afford regular requied maintenance then you probably shouldnt try to own one. Plus, i knew id be the only driver and im not an agressive driver.... Kudos to other Subie drivers. Ive only one regret....wish id have kept my 2018 crosstrek instead of upgrading for bells and whistles for the 2021 sport....
I wish there was a mechanic like Scotty near me here in SoCal, my car has a code and I have taken it to three mechanics and can’t diagnose the problem.
Tell us what the code is, the year, make, and model of the car, along with engine size, type and millage, and an explanation of the problem, and we will try to help.

That's not bad $ if they actually fix it right.
Scotty did a video yesterday saying silicon lasts longer than traditional gaskets
Does toyota and mazda use silicone sealant nowadays too?
make sure to fix that leak also. that sensor looked like it had oil on it.
THANKS SCOTTY! YOU RULE!
They don’t make cars like they used to.
Well done!
I really like the insight on how you diagnose a problem!
What retailers sell this Bernie's fule treatment?
I was already sad. Scotty cheered me up!
Liqui Moly is an excellent alternative.
WHAT was the name of the fuel cleaner??? I don't see a link.
Bernie’s
I haven't seen it around on the East Coast.
@@seanturner7 thank you...I paused it and read ATS Chemical 505 CRF Fuel System Treatment but I just couldn't find the word Bernie's on it...I thought that is what he said! Thank you, that is a big help to my old ears!!!
Scotty really talks up Bernie's products.
So I tried them.
I can say they absolutely worked for me.
Is it going to turn your old beater into a New car?
Maybe not but if you have reasonable expectations, give them a try cuz they absolutely work as advertised.
Scotty even on Hyundai you have to use Oem, bosh is the Oem supplier, but you have to buy it the Hyundai one
Why does my 2014 Subaru Forester keep having issues with tire temp gauge. Have had one replaced last year and now another one is not registering correct (tires are inflated but gauge still on) A lady waiting for car repair at dealership had same issue....Any recalls?
Is Subaru good car?
That’s what I wanna know, compared to Volvo ??? Please respond to us??
Is a 2nd hand outback ok?
My 2008 4 cyl Honda Accord has the same code p0171 crazy timing w this video haha . I'm also wondering if 2000 rpms around 60 65 mph is normal? I also think my gas mileage is getting shittier could that be from the fuel pump?
A bad O2 sensor causes it to think it's not getting right AFR and it keeps adding more fuel thinking it it is lean.
@@markleger9238 beautiful makes sense
I have a subaru forester 2013 when I'm idle rpm goes up and down they said I have problems with valves
Great Infor Mr.Scotty 615
How does this suburu have such high millage …for a suburu?
those debugging tablets really are invaluable 7:46 that's something that annoying me on my car. it doesn't have a gauge for the oil temp and pressure either. the car will only light up with warnings after one of these is in critical condition. idiotic user interface design in the name of minimalism
Scotty .... That vehicle IS 13 YEARS old, with higher milage .... EVERYTHING (even us humans, have an END date...) LOL
Way ahead of the game - a Subaru engine that didn’t blow up by 150K.
I forget when exactly but Subaru finally switched to the MLS head gaskets. This one I believe wasn't included in that timeframe. Most of us just change the head gaskets BEFORE they blow. 😂 Saves quite the headache later. My 2000 ob is almost to 300k. Cheers 🍻
If Subaru always had bad head gaskets and overheating
It could also bw that the clock isn't set to the correct time...I saw it on the internet!😅
Not even bad weather can stop Scotty!
Thanks much!
Hooray for Scotty!
Me too!
Same here. I need Scotty here in So Cal. He should travel more.
@@VKSgtSLaughterI'm in So Cal, could you help me?
@@chrisl5711 I'm in NYS.
Why do Subaru blow up
So Subaru is full of ABS?😅
Love the ways you work it Scotty🎉 always getting to the issues quick ❤
My wrx has a digital coolant temp and oil temp
It's worthy to rebuild a engine for a 2013 forester 😢
Too much resistance means it is open.
No 😂
Too much resistance means it is shut, just like a woman who says no!

Scotty es muy loco 😂
Great work Scotty!
