Every new DJ should watch this. The best in depth song structure phrase mixing dj tutorial I’ve seen anywhere. Eloquent, straight to the point Instructor. This lesson would even be better if he demonstrated mixing out on everyone of those possible out points using different techniques. It would be like an hour long video but I would definitely watch it til the end.

Dude, as a beginner researching theory , mixing and the like before buying a controller, this video taught me more than like 10 other videos. Very nicely done and thank you 👍

These things are SOOO basic, I don't know how many times I tried to explain this to my friends who obviously couldn't count to four, even when we just mixed simple techno and house records back then. So many "Djs" were and still are not able to mix on a first beat but release the second record just anywhere in a track paying only attention if two kicks are running tightly over each other. In some mixes there is such a deep lack for the right timing and even today some of them don't note the difference. Just pushing a button is much easier and also maybe better for the most instead of mixing real vinyl, which unfortunately hardly anyone does these days anyway. However, great tutorial that many Djs should have a look at very urgently...

This is perfect. I’ve recently been doing this, by adding cues and naming them “16 bars” for the Intro, where the choirs is at, “16 Mix out” where I want to drop in the new song to mix in and mix out the song being played. Very helpful. Hopefully more videos like this thanks.

Wooow ! This was sooo helpful, thanks a lot man. I've been DJing for couple of months and always had a feeling that something was just not right about my mixing. Of course I've been listening music for ages and I'm able to feel when a song is changing from a chorus to a bridge and when it's a good time to switch between them but never really took some time to dig into the foundations (the structure) of those songs. Sometime we're just to excited and want to play before actually learning the roots of music.
Your videos will definitely get me to a whole new level and I want to thank you for that !!!

Fantastic tutorial BUT Question haha I feel like I'm getting lost in how to know when the intro of a song ends. Would it be when a new phrase starts?

This is an awesome video! My question is, being a wedding DJ I don't have any preset playlist and what if you have a 96 BPM mixing into a 148 BPM song? the BPMs are way too different correct?

Isn't 1 phrase = 8 or 16 bars as opposed to 4 bars stated in this video?
