I personally describe each of the shows like this: Season 0: Local high schoolers take Tabletop Games way too seriously. DM: Young kid gets possessed by the soul of his past life, gets wrapped up in schemes of vengance, later becomes a celebrity. GX: High schooler learns that that depression and war crimes are the real friends we made along the way. 5DS: Biker gang fights the Illuminati and a semi-related Death Cult, also solves wealth inequality. Zexal: Hyperactive kid teams up with amnesiac alien to stop proxy war between two planets that was a front to obtain the corpse of God. ArcV: High schooler would rather fight an interdimensional-war and become Satan than go to therapy (he has depression and daddy issues) VRAINS: A corportation decided to make Skynet out of abused children and teach it card games. This will somehow make them money.
Here's the best way I can describe each Yu-Gi-Oh series in a few words without spoilers Season 0- Wait, you're telling me this series wasn't about card games? Duel Monsters- Egyptian magic turned into children's card game GX- slice of life card game anime turns into *VERY SPOILERY YET DARK THINGS* half way 5Ds- everyone memes on card games on motorcycles, but beyond that its actually an emotionally and politically intelligent series. DM - fight of the past. GX - present. 5ds - future. Their movie together called Bonds Beyond Time anyway. Meaning we ended yugi's timeline story. Then we entering Zexal - battle of universe, 5ds - multiverse, Vrains - metaverse.
the blue haired girl from the 1st op is miho. she is tristan's crush and was only in a few chapters of the manga, but the anime adaptation expanded her role to part of the main cast. also I'm pretty sure noah's green hair was inspired by kaiba's green hair here
GX - Happy dude gets depression and manages to get back up 5D - Sick duels on motorcycles with a bit of time paradox stuff Zexal - Weak start, but gets pretty cool with the later duels Arc-V - Marvel Multiverse - Infinity War/Endgame VRAINS - Hackerman (first MC to get his ace monster banned irl) 😂 Sevens - Haven't watched, but kinda looks like if they took the Duel Links game and made it a series, lol.
For context ArcV was an aniversary show, so part of its plot later on is why you see characters from previous series show up, i cant go into why if you plan on seeing the show I'll say now though if you do plan on watching it i'd recommend the jp dub because of the tone of the series and voice acting, the dub isnt bad but some vas are way better than others while the jp its stellar across the board
The one you see from 5ds in Arc V isn't the same (His name is Jack Atlas). The thing is, Arc V is split into 4 dimensions (based on summoning/specific monster types like fusion monsters). The Jack here is not the same Jack as in 5ds, this is an entirely different Jack with an entirely different backstory. Same with any other returning character
"Season Zero" is based off the earlier parts of the manga, pre card game. The Duel Monsters anime basically summarizes Yugi and Kaiba's second confrontation in one duel and then skips to Duelist Kingdom in the 8th volume of the manga, which is where the series becomes permanently about the card game after two previous duels in 7 volumes. Shadi and Bakura both were introduced before Duelist Kingdoms in storylines that had nothing to do with Duel Monsters (as Yugi only dueled Kaiba twice before this, and that was it), so they had to be reintroduced in Duelist Kingdom.
Love how you caught on the the contrast between the pile of junk and the glittering Stardust Dragon during the first opening of 5D’s Stardust Dragon basically represents a symbol of hope that Yusei (the MC) and his friends will one day escape the Satellite (basically the broken down place with all the junk)
Season Zero is more closely based on the manga, which focuses on other games besides the famous card game like the second and more famous anime series.
As someone who’s only ever seen DM dubbed - I will eventually watch YGO subbed - WE. WERE. ROBBED. The camera angles! The shots! The poses! They’re so cool!!
With Arc-V, to truly enjoy the experience it is recommended to watch first GX, 5D and Zexal as it has some context but it is not a must. The characters that you see in Arc-V are from a "parallel dimension" similar to the worlds of the previous series. The first trilogy has some parallels as well, the Duel Monsters saga has some things related with Zexal, Gx with Arc-V, and 5D is the most mature and share that element with Vrains.
From the ones i watched, and kind of remember: • [Season 0] - "What if we play ANY game... TO DEATH! No, really, whoever loses gets set on fire, i dunno." -"Uhmm..." -"Yes, i take chess THAT seriously!" • [OG Series] - Kid unlocks the soul of an ancient pharaoh who for some reason is REALLY good at tabletop games, trapped in a ancient egyptian's pimp necklace. Flamboyant billionaire makes tournament island. Oh, also there's an ancient prophecy and cultists wants the necklace. • [GX] - Boarding school to get good at the card game, that gets involved in a lot of occult and ritualistic stuff. From feels good/underdog story to black magic, sacrifices, paranormal detective and death... but friendship! • [5D's] - Society divided between the poor constantly harassed by police and living in the slums. 1% living on penthouses watching card games in motorcycles. Blonde dude takes bike and card from the protag to try and make a break for the good life. Protag tries to get his shit back but ends up in jail and marked as a criminal (yellow scars). Yadda yadda, ancient prophecy, dark rituals, police brutality, gang violence, someone gets the rope, nuclear meltdown, time travel... and a full episode of blond dude trying to find a job to buy good coffee... Favorite ygo show. • [Zexal] - Kid has dreams of an alien who is really good at card games, also has weird triangular necklace (this feels familiar...). Alien tries to make a gamer out of him. School stuff, some big tournament... then secret society, a lot of numbers, some alien stuff, deaths (a lot), become super saiyan and prevent the end of the world. • [Arc-V] - Kid with necklace (you: "and a mystical be-") and NO MYSTICAL BEING (you: "oh?") plays card games. His dad is Hugh Jackman in The Greatest Showman, but with cards, and wants to be like him. Rival is a rich/philantropist/genius that is actually getting ready for an Interdimensional War and invasion, so he needs to assemble the avengers to face the invaders. There's a resistance group, genocide and a lot of war criminals, 2 in particular who really love to murk "scum". Also "Multiple Personality Disorder" is taken to a whole other level, but the power of showmanship, entertainment and friendship will save us all! ...Or it might have been what doomed them all to begin with, who knows?
Not sure someone wrote in the comments But for some reason Yugioh DM reuse Opening 4 for Season 4 and a mini arc before Season 5 (Egypt) So I think that opening was used for more than a year in the anime runtime. Same thing with Yugioh GX opening 2 which was used for season 2 (the opening was first used in second half of season 1) and they have it more than a year as well No point seeing those versions since DM didn’t change anything except the end part which shows the arc they’re in. And other version of GX opening 2 was lackluster since it was more slideshow and footage from the show
gx stands for Generation X. 5Ds stands for 5 Dragons(there are 6). zexal is just Zeal becus the x is not part of the name it was supposed to be decorative in the logo. arc v is... the 5th arc. vrains stands for Virtual Reality Artificial Intelligence Network System
"VRAINS" was 2017-2019. There are newer Yu-Gi-Oh series, like "SEVENS" (2020-2022) and "GO RUSH!!" (2022-ongoing). But the gameplay mechanic and overall vibe in them is quite different than the previous Series, that they are basically completely different altogether (even i had drop Yu-Gi-Oh after VRAINS ended, even though i have been following it since GX).
The blonde dude you love from 5Ds is Jack Atlas. He serves as the Seto Kaiba for the series. The other guy with the M is Crow, who serves as the Joey of the series. And first Vrains opening can also be called a literal since it's done by the same artist as Sono Chino Sadame.
GX the characters go to school for playing card games, but its only really light hearted at the beginning ArcV is similar in that the first opening sets the tone and the later opens are what it turns into
You're missing Sevens with two openings and Go Rush with three. However the second Sevens opening is completely nuked from TH-cam by copyright each time it's uploaded, so you'll have to miss out on that one. Go Rush has no such problem with any of the three.
As someone who watched Kids WB every Saturday I can tell you here they aired every season. I remember the new episode every Saturday of all 4 DM seasons
@ReactZones I didn't have Kids WB until the final 2 seasons aired. Dartz S4 and S5, which was Grand Prix/Dawn of the Duel in 2005. I remember watching it every Saturday. That season was Grand Prix which was a huge tournament in Kaibaland that switched to 2nd half of the season called Dawn of the Duel. Only reason I know this for fact is I watched it as it aired since S5 was the year I moved on my own after graduating high school with GX airing later in 2005. Edit: Had to correct season numbers. Keep forgetting that Deck Masters and remainder of Enter were a full season of their own (me thinking it was one season with Enter).
If I had to recommend two series, it would probably be 5D's and Arc-V: *5D's can have a lot of memes of "duels in motocicles", but the background and social criticism (at times quite cold and cruel) give a unique and interesting atmosphere to the series, since it not only affects the development of it (in more than one way), but it is possible to see how said environment changes as the series progresses. Personally, I consider it to be the most mature series in the franchise and that's exactly why I highly recommend it. *In the case of Arc-V, the series starts off with a plot that seems calm, but it quickly starts to get mysterious and before you know it you'll be immersed in a dimensional conflict. Another interesting detail is that this is the first series to use all the existing summoning methods introduced to date, which provides a huge variety of interesting duels. And about what you pointed out, yes, there are cameos from characters from GX (Azuka), 5D's (Jack), and Zexal (Kaito). And so you don't miss out on information about the others, here's a brief summary: -Season 0: Originally Yu-Gi-Oh! wasn't going to be about the card game. No joke. -Duel Monsters: It's hard to say something you probably don't know, but it's basically how an ancient Egyptian magic ends up becoming the game we know and all the consequences that brings. -Zexal: A weak duelist (very weak) ends up involved with a "spirit" with amnesia (to call it in a way so as not to give spoilers) and that encounter unleashes a series of events that escalate and escalate; all of them related to the lost memories that this "spirit" must recover, while the protagonist must improve if he doesn't want to perish along the way. This series starts off a little slow, but when the tournament starts it picks up pace and it doesn't stop until the end. By the way, the card with cards rotating among it its maybe the most powerful thing in the entire franchise. -Vrains: Duels in a virtual environment, technology, an AI that everyone wants to capture or destroy and a protagonist who seeks revenge. Regards ^^
If you want like a DBZ style yugioh zexal is that if you want edgy and serious other than duel monsters 5ds is that if want a more diverse and bigger main cast of character arc v is that if you want a modern style, yugioh anime vrains is that if you want a school like setting, Gx is the one for you My favorite seasons is zexal and 5ds not saying that others are bad though they are all dope in their own right
The protagonist of GX, Jaden in the dub or Judai in the original he starts with a deck of an archetype called Elemental Heroes, which is based Superheroes in general and he later one on the 2nd season mix'em up with another archetype called Neo-Spacians. An GX is heavily focused on Fusion Summoning, which started the trend of each series putting a type of Summing front and center. The 3rd which is Yugioh 5Ds introducing Synchro summoning (white color framed monster cards). The 4th,Yugioh Zexal Introducing XYZ ("Ik-seez" summoning) summoning (black color framed monster cards). The 5th Yugioh Arc-V introducing Pendulum summoning (Half-green framed color monster cards) in the first season but later one bring back the previous Ritual, Fusion, Synchro, XYZ summoning along side the new Pendulum summoning. The 6th series Yugioh Vrains introduced Link summoning (Royal Blue color framed monster cards with and hexagonal bee hive pattern slightly showing). The 7th, Yugioh Sevens doesn’t introduced a new summing mechanic, but and new alternate format of playing Duel Monsters called Rush Duels which in simpler terms reduces the size of the decks and battle field for more “fast passed” duels, but with NO especial types o monsters cards like fusion, synchro, etc, only normal and effect monsters. And the 8th and so far latest series Yugioh GO RUSH, is an spiritual successor to Sevens since they continued play Rush Duels (this format exists in real life but only in Japan so far), but now introduction Fusion Summoning to Rush Duels. Y not the same but Rush Duels is similar and inspired on the alternate Yugi format called Speed Duels, were too the deck and battle field is down sized as well as the card pool, for a simpler and type o game similar to the one player yugi early days, and that wish what was later used for the basis of the APP of Yugioh DUEL LINKS, which started in 2016 with only the Duel Monsters characters and a small card pool with cards expansion sets and starter/structure decks being released every so often. And new worlds have been added every year based on the different anime incarnations, GX, 5Ds, The Dark Side of Dimensions Movie, Zexal, Arc-V, Vrains, Sevens, with more playable characters and extensions to the card pool with every addition, and on this October the Go Rush world.
Duel Monsters, GX and 5Ds take place in the same timeline just now and te same time, GX can be 10 to 20 years after Duel Monsters, and 5Ds is way later perhaps 50+ years after GX, from then onwards each series takes place on alternate realities, where the events of previous shows may have happened, or happened somewhat different, if not at all.
The 'Gagaga' archetype basically combines the Dark Magician's aesthetic with highschool delinquents. It revolves mostly around changing monsters' levels for easy xyz summons.
okay so people already told you but there was a season before the one we got for card games, season 0, which is about how yugi got the title "king of games", he basically beats people in other games
Best vocal banger in the show, but my favorite musical banger definitely goes to Jack Atlas’s theme. When that song starts playing, it turns the already coolest character in the series into an absolute king.
If I were you and have only seen the original of course GX is what I would recommend. The thing about later season is that turns get more and more crazy and the rules and mechanics get expanded upon with each anime
It's really cool to see someone reacting to these, I watched 5D's a few years ago and the openings were just banger after banger, easily my favorite part of Yu-gi-oh especially considering I never watched it as a kid opposed to DM and GX, it just felt a lot more mature in tone and character wise, stakes were high, villains were cool, the signer dragons are still some of the coolest iconic groups of cards imo and the decks that support them.
Just so you know there are season 7 called sevens! And season 8 called Go Rush! However the artstyle is different and its aimed for younger kids. They play a new simplified version of yugioh called Rush Duel
The artstayle change is because they changed studios and they arent used to do the OG artstyle. The product artworks however are weirdly in the old style. The openings are awesome however might be not your target audience since its for 8 to 12 year olds
🟢Years ago a friend ask me about yugioh series and I told him in a funny way, this is the shortest way to understand 😂, so probably this will give an idea of the plot. 1. Original = Faraones 2. GX = Harry Potter 3. 5Ds = Terminator 4. Zexal = Inuyasha 5. Arc-v = Avatar (nickelodeon) 6. Vrains = The Matrix 🙏🏼☑️🟢 Regards From Colombia
yeah man if you want to watch these shows ... i highly sudjest you watch the original japanese? mostly due to the fact that the english dub ... yeah it was kinda ... yeah no, no it was lazy and was never fully translated, on some i not most! yeah im mean if you want a hint to each shows? you might want to look at each protags decks! and i highly recomend both "5ds" and "vrains"? if you do want to try them out, you could watch the dub just keep in mind you might also need to look at the sub? other than that you are missing two more seasons? they are "sevens" and "rush" ... wait now that i thin about it ... go rush/rush go might be a ... seperate, season?
Vrains isnt perfect but i absolutely loved the setting, characters, and especially how a lot of them dueled with decks that were meta in the irl tcg at some point which is awesome to a competitive player like me.
you’re analysis is pretty spot on for GX, light hearted at first…. then fricking death death death and maybe a little genocide. sprinkle some depression in there too 😂
Funny in USA it aired in Kids WB, in Latin America, (at least some parts) it aired in Nickelodeon, Both, Yugioh Duel Monsters (and also got to be on open regular TV) and Yugioh GX, but Yugioh 5Ds either didn't aired in Nickelodeon or not the feed we got in Costa Rica through the cable company we had hired at home.
It's funny seeing casuals called Duel Monsters dark and label gx as upbeat but anyone who actually completed gx knows how the story goes. Also gx & 5ds are hands down two of the best yugioh series, Duel Monsters are alright but pretty predictable.
Word of advice: If you watch through GX and 5D's, do it in sub because the first few series had a habit of having certain moments and episodes skipped for censorship reasons and final seasons never being dubbed from the 4Kids days.
5ds & Vrains, these 2 share same concept. Serious mc and riding theme (their own format duel called turbo & speed). Make sense, most people who like 1 of these will like the other 1 too including me.
I love these, been watching all the Subs for the first time myself and these openings sell the vibe for me so I'm glad more people have been watching these lately
Can u also do Sevens and Go Rush at the same time Cuz they’re part of their own rule set Please Sevens only has 92 episodes and Go Rush is currently on 118 They are connected
Technically speaking, you are missing the intros for Yu-Gi-Oh Sevens and Yu-Gi-Oh Go Rush, though these shows are kind of categorized separately because they have to do with Rush Duel format of Yu-Gi-Oh.
1:06 is kind of the prototipe of duel monsters, yes but Yu Gi Oh name in japanese translate to "king of games" and the manga start with different games before setting on the Duel monsters, which become relly popular so bandai bough the rights to made the first duel monster card, later konami step in and is the duel monster we know to day 33:34 is arc FIVE, V is the roman number because is the fifth series, yes this series go to the previews other show, but is not as a timeline but a different dimension, the one that connect the time lines are 5Ds Gx and Duel monsters on the movie bonds beyond time
To best explain the continuity between the different yugioh series is that they are spin-offs of the original and each have different level of connection to each other. So you just assume they aren't connected until the show itself says otherwise. This really comes to a head in Arc-V where we have, what is in essence, alternate version of previous characters.
you have to watch GX and 5ds. After that the Anime gets trash, but these two together with Duel Monsters are the best 3. AND there was still a logical timeline (that got very confusing after 5ds)
So, Yu-Gi-Oh season 0 was made under Toei animation, back when Bandai was kind of the lead merchandise license holder for the franchise. It essentially just covers the original run of the Yu-Gi-Oh manga before it went under the Yu-Gi-Oh Duelist label. It begins all the way with Yugi unlocking the power of the Millennium Puzzle, and lasts all the way up to the Dark RPG with the first appearance of Yami Bakura. There's obviously plenty of differences between the manga and the first anime. For example, the character Miho in the manga is not a main character. She appeared in only one chapter of the manga as a crush Honda (Tristan) had. In the anime, she is made into one of the main characters of the group just to increase the amount of female characters. After Toei did their own Yu-Gi-Oh movie, ownership of Yu-Gi-Oh landed with Konami, and they changed animation studio from Toei Animation to Studio Gallop, creating the show, Yu-Gi-Oh: Duel Monsters. They started with the beginning of Duelist Kingdom arc, mostly to capitalize on the highly profitable card game, but also because Toei already did all the pre-Duelist Kingdom stuff. This does lead to a lot of key moments for season 0 being loosely adapted and included into season 1, such as both Kaiba stealing Grandpa's Blue-Eyes White Dragon and his first/second duel with Yugi)the Death T arc being quickly adapted into the first episode, Yami Bakura's Dark RPG and first appearance being adapted into his first duel against the Pharaoh, Shadi's first encounter with Yugi. They basically just give you the important bits.
For the GX part, Jadens deck gimmick is the E-Heros, or Elemental Heros. A very fusion based theme. Each 'base' card represents a super hero/super sentai type character, and then you fuse them into bigger badder ones. Example, the green bri with wings is Elemental Hero Wingman, and the lady in skintight red is Elemental Hero Burstinatrix, and whent they fuse, they become the big guy with the dragon arm that you commented on looking super cool, Elemental Hero Flamewingman. There is also E-Hero Mudman who is the golem you commented on, and the earth attribute one, and E-Hero Bubbleman who is the water E-Hero. They each have various fuses with eachother, and i think some of their fusions have fusions, and they have a whole 'archetype' with cards thst soecifically effect 'Elemental Hero' cards. Most of the characters in GX have very specific themed deck. Alexis, the girl that looks like Mai, uses 'female only' cards, so while harpies would qualify, she's not linited just them. The weird looking guy with the frills and make up is BASICALLY Proffessor Snape from Harry Potter, but somehow worse written. The start of the series is pretty light hearted where the stakes are things like 'loser gets extra chores ' and the occasional 'loser is expelled'. It gets more serious later. The school has 3 houses, each named abd color coded after the god cards, Slifer Red, Ra Yellow and Obelisk Blue, with red being the worst students and blues being 'the best'which really just means the richest, just like IRL yugioh. I don't remember if the gods show up in the series, but there are some knock offs they nade for GX called the Divine Beasts or some bs like that. Overall, highly recommend a GX watch.
Elemental Hero Feather Man, Elemental Hero Burst Lady, and Elemental Hero Clay Man for the EARTH attribute one. Osiris Red (named for Osiris no Tenkuuryu, and not Slifer the Executive Producer), Ra Yellow, and Obelisk Blue.
Long story short to answer some questions you had asked without spoiling much 1. Season 0 takes place before duel monsters and the official card game happened, the story is basically a horror slice of life showing different tabletop games other than card games. 2. The last season of DM does take place in Egypt for most of the time as it show the Pharaoh's origin. 3. Yu-Gi-Oh GX was what started the monster catalogue of Archetypes for decks (Elemental Heroes, Cyber Angel, Ancient Gears, Roids, Destiny Heroes, Volcanics, etc). Sad fact, the English Dub was never finished and ended before the last episode of season 3 with no dub of the final season. 4. Again like GX, 5Ds never got an English dub for their final season as well and had even skipped some episodes before that, which caused some plot holes within the dub. 5. In Zexal the blue spirit that follows around the MC is named Astral who's basically like the Yami Yugi of the their series in which he helps the MC in his duels as well as trying to recover his memories. 6. The V in Arc-V is a 5 in Roman numeral as it indicates as the 5th Yu-Gi-Oh series. Some characters from previous series return in the series but they are not the same characters entirely, they take place in different dimensions. 7. Vrains is actually an acronym for Virtual Reality Artificial Intelligence Network System, every duel takes place in a virtual world. Fun fact, the first opening was sung by Tommy who sang some Jojo's Bizarre Adventure openings.
For the yugioh series: Original, 5D's, and Vrains starts dark. GX, Zexal, Arc V, and the two you missed(Sevens and Go Rush) start out happy go lucky, but get dark. Arc V is great, but a number of people(myself included) feel that the end was rushed and that there were missed potential in it. Oh, and as a side note, Sevens and Go Rush are interconnected.
Basically, after the og anime, each series focuses on a different summoning mechanic. Gx covers fusion summoning, 5d's covers synchro summoning, zexal covers xyz summoning, arc-v covers pendulum summoning, vrains covers link summoning, and series 7 and 8 covers speed duels.
I'd definitely recommend watching them in order (including the OG Duel Monsters) in Japanese. I've recently gone through both DM and GX in Japanese, and both are significantly better in Japanese once you get used to the non english names. I also recommend it because both GX and 5Ds final arcs were never dubbed, so you'll never know how they end if you watch in English sadly.
Season 0 actually takes place before DM which is why characters are mostly aware of each other and certain events prior to episode 1 of DM. Some stuff is shifted around and reintroduced, such as Yami Yugi's duel with Kaiba (technically for the 2nd time), since it is produced by a different company and the rights for the IP shifted at the time. Personally, I'd watch the series in Japanese. Uncensored, better music/tone for serious moments, and an overall different feel compared to the English dub.
Honestly the original Japanese version of the series is a whole other breed of Awesome, I'm currently watching it in sub and I'm loving it even more, seeing the original compared to what 4kids have censored is just fun, Kaiba Literally jams a gun pointed at his head with a card it's so good 🤣
Ok last comment VRAINS setting is that the duels take place in a virtual reality setting almost like logging into the internet like it were a hub room to just chill with people, but since its virtual people can physically go there like the mc hense the stark difference in his look at times, since its the internet you can change your name and the MC Yusaku chose Playmaker, its not as light hearted as the other series and starts very much like 5ds with a more serious mc but Yusaku isnt as nice as Yusei and besides his man in the hotdog truck prefers to do things alone
Personally, 5DS is my favorite series of the yugioh franchises. Arc-V was incredibly ambitious, but it had some issues near the final act. It's still a worthy watch, though.
I personally describe each of the shows like this:
Season 0: Local high schoolers take Tabletop Games way too seriously.
ArcV: High schooler would rather fight an interdimensional-war and become Satan than go to therapy (he has depression and daddy issues)
VRAINS: A corportation decided to make Skynet out of abused children and teach it card games. This will somehow make them money.
this descriptions are funny
Rip Kazuki Takahashi It's been two years since we lost him
RIP "Taiki Matsuno" (VA of Jun Manjome from GX) as well, who died in June 2024.
@@Sup_Dholy shit this is the first I hear about this 😭 nooooo
Here's the best way I can describe each Yu-Gi-Oh series in a few words without spoilers
Season 0- Wait, you're telling me this series wasn't about card games?
Duel Monsters- Egyptian magic turned into children's card game
GX- slice of life card game anime turns into *VERY SPOILERY YET DARK THINGS* half way
5Ds- everyone memes on card games on motorcycles, but beyond that its actually an emotionally and politically intelligent series.
ZeXal- loser protag gets involved with an alien's amnesia (it's actually really good, at least starting from the tournament arc)
Arc V- Entertainer protag gets involved with INTERDIMENSIONAL WAR, AND WHATS GOING ON IM SCARED
Vrains- so, we use AI for children's card games now huh?
Zexal could be expanded on with: Loser protag helps with alien amnesia and then prevents ancient rulers from committing genocide
DM - fight of the past. GX - present. 5ds - future. Their movie together called Bonds Beyond Time anyway. Meaning we ended yugi's timeline story. Then we entering Zexal - battle of universe, 5ds - multiverse, Vrains - metaverse.
u forgor to say for zexal, the loser protag actually get good through the series but ofc slowly not directly
5d's and Zexal are by far the best. then Vrains and the Og. Gx and Arc v being the weakest overall but still with lots of great moments
In fact, its a very accurate description.
the blue haired girl from the 1st op is miho. she is tristan's crush and was only in a few chapters of the manga, but the anime adaptation expanded her role to part of the main cast. also I'm pretty sure noah's green hair was inspired by kaiba's green hair here
Masaaki Endoh is such a legend, all of his song goes wild.
React to that other song he did for 5Ds.
@@christopherb501CLEAR MIND!
@@hok_weee _Thank_ you; could not recall the title for the life of me.
GX - Happy dude gets depression and manages to get back up
5D - Sick duels on motorcycles with a bit of time paradox stuff
Zexal - Weak start, but gets pretty cool with the later duels
Arc-V - Marvel Multiverse - Infinity War/Endgame
VRAINS - Hackerman (first MC to get his ace monster banned irl) 😂
Sevens - Haven't watched, but kinda looks like if they took the Duel Links game and made it a series, lol.
For context
ArcV was an aniversary show, so part of its plot later on is why you see characters from previous series show up, i cant go into why if you plan on seeing the show
I'll say now though if you do plan on watching it i'd recommend the jp dub because of the tone of the series and voice acting, the dub isnt bad but some vas are way better than others while the jp its stellar across the board
Also the dub ends up changing a lot of dialogue or just straight up reediting scenes (e.g. Editing a cemetery into an empty field in 5Ds)
Yeah i dont mind the arc-v dub for the most part but the Yuboys VA I can’t stand so I ended up watching in japanese on my latest rewatch
The openings of the OG series grew on me when I rewatched them in Japanese. A real glow up from the American versions.
I couldn't agree more.
@@ReactZones would love to see you react to yugioh 5ds
Fun fact: Overlap (Duel Monsters) and Go Foward (Vrains) both from Kimeru are a lyrics sumary of each series
I love warriors and overlap. They are the best songs second to Passionat Duelist
Hey, thanks for covering all yugioh opening (toei and studio gallop), it's so rare to find this
And also i recommend you to watch the first four series, they are bangers
Quick FYI, it's not Arc V. The V is a roman numeral, so it's Arc 5.
The newest series is actually gorush. And there's also sevens but they focus on a new format called rush duels
Love how you caught on the the contrast between the pile of junk and the glittering Stardust Dragon during the first opening of 5D’s
Stardust Dragon basically represents a symbol of hope that Yusei (the MC) and his friends will one day escape the Satellite (basically the broken down place with all the junk)
In Germany where i live the VA of Dr.Crowler also voiced the german dub Spongebob Squarepants
WARRIORS was the opening during the Battle City finals and then the filler arcs. They just changed the ending picture for the different arcs.
Season Zero is more closely based on the manga, which focuses on other games besides the famous card game like the second and more famous anime series.
5D's has the best soundtracks hands down, you will love watching this season!
And one of the best ost's of all series with "Clear Mind"
Too bad it isn't as good after the Dark Signers arc.
zexal and 5ds have the best soundtrack to be fair ( if u watched zexal u know )
As someone who’s only ever seen DM dubbed - I will eventually watch YGO subbed -
WE. WERE. ROBBED.
The camera angles! The shots! The poses!
They’re so cool!!
12:21 the song is by Psychic Lover who also did the Dekaranger and Shinkenger opening + a lot of other Super Sentai songs. :)
That explains it!
The voice actor of Yuya, Yuri and Zarc voiced Giorno Giovanna in the japanese dub
interesting fact: Yuya is the fifth Yu main character, and Giorno is the fifth Jojo
From the ones i watched, and kind of remember:
• [Season 0] - "What if we play ANY game... TO DEATH! No, really, whoever loses gets set on fire, i dunno." -"Uhmm..." -"Yes, i take chess THAT seriously!"
• [OG Series] - Kid unlocks the soul of an ancient pharaoh who for some reason is REALLY good at tabletop games, trapped in a ancient egyptian's pimp necklace.
TOO ACCURATE
Multiple Personality Disorder... How I never thought of that, yeah that sums up that season in a nutshell.
1:48 "I love this artist voice"
And the opening is called voice, that's a good one
Not sure someone wrote in the comments
But for some reason
Yugioh DM reuse Opening 4 for Season 4 and a mini arc before Season 5 (Egypt)
So I think that opening was used for more than a year in the anime runtime.
Same thing with Yugioh GX opening 2 which was used for season 2 (the opening was first used in second half of season 1) and they have it more than a year as well
No point seeing those versions since DM didn’t change anything except the end part which shows the arc they’re in.
Yugioh 5D's is trully the peak of Yugioh. You chose wisely with the series you wanted to watch.
I didn't include those 2 series since it uses some new modern style. I'll be covering those in a MODERN YuGiOh Opening reaction.
12:21 Yup the band Psychic Lover did do a couple of Super Sentai OPs. (Btw sorry to be that guy but its Tokusatsu lol)
Then don't be that guy, dude. 🤣 But I got you. I'm jk. I wonder if I'll recognize them when I react to the Super Sentai OPs.
@@ReactZones Fun note, the lead singer of Psychic Lover is the son of Kouji Wada, the guy who sung most of the openings to Digimon in Japanese.
They also worked on a bunch of Cardfight! Vanguard OPs just behind DAIGO in number of OPs, and I think even did some for Future Card Buddyfight.
GX the characters go to school for playing card games, but its only really light hearted at the beginning
ArcV is similar in that the first opening sets the tone and the later opens are what it turns into
You're missing Sevens with two openings and Go Rush with three.
However the second Sevens opening is completely nuked from TH-cam by copyright each time it's uploaded, so you'll have to miss out on that one.
Go Rush has no such problem with any of the three.
The title is missing ALL from it. ;) I'll do it in a MODERN YUGIOH OPs reaction. ;) this was already long af. Lol
@@genyakozlov1316 i did find a good quality version of Sevens op 2

Arc V is an anniversary season so that's why you see past season characters appearing. Only GX, 5DS and Zexal characters appear tho.
SUB OPs over DUB OPs ALL. THE. EFFIN. TIME. No contest.
As someone who watched Kids WB every Saturday I can tell you here they aired every season. I remember the new episode every Saturday of all 4 DM seasons
Are you sure you're not mixing up the filler arc that came after everything with Malik? I could have sworn the Egypt arc wasn't shown on TV.
If I had to recommend two series, it would probably be 5D's and Arc-V:
*5D's can have a lot of memes of "duels in motocicles", but the background and social criticism (at times quite cold and cruel) give a unique and interesting atmosphere to the series, since it not only affects the development of it (in more than one way), but it is possible to see how said environment changes as the series progresses.
And so you don't miss out on information about the others, here's a brief summary:
-Season 0: Originally Yu-Gi-Oh! wasn't going to be about the card game.
Regards ^^
If you want like a DBZ style yugioh zexal is that
if you want edgy and serious other than duel monsters 5ds is that
if want a more diverse and bigger main cast of character arc v is that
if you want a modern style, yugioh anime vrains is that
if you want a school like setting, Gx is the one for you
My favorite seasons is zexal and 5ds not saying that others are bad though they are all dope in their own right
All I wish for is that someone reacts to GX and ARC-V, please~ 🙏🏻
(In English sub would be best)
Zexal is so gooooooood but watch in sub, eng dub didnt do it justice
Season Zero, despite how it's touted, is still tamer than the manga.

I swear to god, stop listening to a theme for 2 seconds, and then going “oh yeah, this is my favorite”
Hey man, 5ds is my favorite yugioh series, but i would love to see you reacting to GX. It starts slice of life, but gets more serious later on.
The 'Gagaga' archetype basically combines the Dark Magician's aesthetic with highschool delinquents. It revolves mostly around changing monsters' levels for easy xyz summons.
in Arc-V there is some Dimension Hoping to the dimensions of GX, 5Ds and Zexal, with some characters returning.
Go and watch the final 2 episodes op GX. They are so awesome
0:12 Yu-Gi-Oh! Season 0
1:31 Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters
8:10 Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters GX
13:36 Yu-Gi-Oh! 5Ds
19:29 Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexel
27:07 Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V
35:09 Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS
Looks like Yu-Gi-Oh! SevenƧ and Yu-Gi-Oh! Go Rush!! were skipped.
Zexal is in some way a sort of “soft reboot” of Duel Monsters OG, with a lot of similar plot elements
It's better than the og🤷
okay so people already told you but there was a season before the one we got for card games, season 0, which is about how yugi got the title "king of games", he basically beats people in other games
You should check the Japanese pokemon openings
It's on the to-do list.
you should listen to Clear Mind by Masaki Endou, it's the insert song in 5D's and is the most BANGER song in the entire series!
Best vocal banger in the show, but my favorite musical banger definitely goes to Jack Atlas’s theme. When that song starts playing, it turns the already coolest character in the series into an absolute king.
12:21 I found out a while ago they did an opening for super sentai Shinkenger, so you're on the right track
Ooooo. That makes sense. I'll be reacting to Super Sentai intros, so I'll have to keep this in mind.
If I were you and have only seen the original of course GX is what I would recommend. The thing about later season is that turns get more and more crazy and the rules and mechanics get expanded upon with each anime
Yeah this reaction totally confirms why gx is the most underrated yet best show of all the yugioh series.
it has the most wasted characters and weakest story so i disagree. but Judai is great
@@Killerqueen2000 I think we can agree to disagree.
5DS is so gritty from the start my god
1. Original = Faraones
2. GX = Harry Potter
3. 5Ds = Terminator
4. Zexal = Inuyasha
5. Arc-v = Avatar (nickelodeon)
6. Vrains = The Matrix

@@michaellyle859😂😂😂 exactly!
yeah man if you want to watch these shows ... i highly sudjest you watch the original japanese? mostly due to the fact that the english dub ... yeah it was kinda ... yeah no, no it was lazy and was never fully translated, on some i not most! yeah im mean if you want a hint to each shows? you might want to look at each protags decks! and i highly recomend both "5ds" and "vrains"? if you do want to try them out, you could watch the dub just keep in mind you might also need to look at the sub? other than that you are missing two more seasons? they are "sevens" and "rush" ... wait now that i thin about it ... go rush/rush go might be a ... seperate, season?
Vrains isnt perfect but i absolutely loved the setting, characters, and especially how a lot of them dueled with decks that were meta in the irl tcg at some point which is awesome to a competitive player like me.
you’re analysis is pretty spot on for GX, light hearted at first…. then fricking death death death and maybe a little genocide. sprinkle some depression in there too 😂
More like PTSD
Funny in USA it aired in Kids WB, in Latin America, (at least some parts) it aired in Nickelodeon, Both, Yugioh Duel Monsters (and also got to be on open regular TV) and Yugioh GX, but Yugioh 5Ds either didn't aired in Nickelodeon or not the feed we got in Costa Rica through the cable company we had hired at home.
7:19 Yami bakura had always been the overarching villain of yugioh biding his time collecting the millennium items.
Yes, but I said he is the villain this time as in the main villain.
man 5ds and zexal are totaly the goat of all ygo tvs, they are so good🎉🎉
It's funny seeing casuals called Duel Monsters dark and label gx as upbeat but anyone who actually completed gx knows how the story goes.
That kept happening for everything now
15:47 recién me doy cuenta que se parecen a un símbolo de nazca 😅
5ds & Vrains, these 2 share same concept. Serious mc and riding theme (their own format duel called turbo & speed). Make sense, most people who like 1 of these will like the other 1 too including me.
I haven’t watched Vrains yet, but I’m planning to watch after I finish watching Zexal and Arc V.
@@LegendsForever206 Vrains is definitely my favorite yugioh anime, tho I really like DM and 5ds. But Vrains is so good!
I love these, been watching all the Subs for the first time myself and these openings sell the vibe for me so I'm glad more people have been watching these lately
I think I'll start with 5DS since I've seen Duel Monsters but not sure yet.
@@ReactZones It seems to be the starting point for those familiar with OG and GX I super recommend 5ds, I just finished it and it was really good
Can u also do Sevens and Go Rush at the same time
Cuz they’re part of their own rule set
Please
Sevens only has 92 episodes and Go Rush is currently on 118
They are connected
Technically speaking, you are missing the intros for Yu-Gi-Oh Sevens and Yu-Gi-Oh Go Rush, though these shows are kind of categorized separately because they have to do with Rush Duel format of Yu-Gi-Oh.
That's why I didn't include it. You'll notice ALL isn't in the title.
Great reaction and usually people miss a lot of the openings so I’m very impressed. Next you gotta do the endings lol
1:06 is kind of the prototipe of duel monsters, yes but Yu Gi Oh name in japanese translate to "king of games" and the manga start with different games before setting on the Duel monsters, which become relly popular so bandai bough the rights to made the first duel monster card, later konami step in and is the duel monster we know to day
33:34 is arc FIVE, V is the roman number because is the fifth series, yes this series go to the previews other show, but is not as a timeline but a different dimension, the one that connect the time lines are 5Ds Gx and Duel monsters on the movie bonds beyond time
To best explain the continuity between the different yugioh series is that they are spin-offs of the original and each have different level of connection to each other.
Psychic Lover also did the Japanese Bakugan New Vestroia opening.
VRAINS feels like a who did it was a huge 5D´s fan, it gives the exact same vibe
Long story short to answer some questions you had asked without spoiling much
Nice video sir, i love it! You should try on the ending songs as well. There were a lot of those that you will find good. Thanks!

It’s so beautiful
For the yugioh series: Original, 5D's, and Vrains starts dark. GX, Zexal, Arc V, and the two you missed(Sevens and Go Rush) start out happy go lucky, but get dark. Arc V is great, but a number of people(myself included) feel that the end was rushed and that there were missed potential in it. Oh, and as a side note, Sevens and Go Rush are interconnected.
Almost every assumption or comment this guy made was accurate
Incredible
Perks of watching anime my whole life.
GX is totally worth watching dude, it starts off a little zany but it gets so much better than where it goes on
Who here just realized that Noah's hair was supposed to Emulate Kaiba's season 0 design?
In Vrains people have Alias
The Protagonist Yusaku is known as Playmaker
Yugioh is so much better in Japanese trust me
Season 0 actually takes place before DM which is why characters are mostly aware of each other and certain events prior to episode 1 of DM.
Honestly the original Japanese version of the series is a whole other breed of Awesome, I'm currently watching it in sub and I'm loving it even more, seeing the original compared to what 4kids have censored is just fun, Kaiba Literally jams a gun pointed at his head with a card it's so good 🤣
Ok last comment
VRAINS setting is that the duels take place in a virtual reality setting almost like logging into the internet like it were a hub room to just chill with people, but since its virtual people can physically go there like the mc hense the stark difference in his look at times, since its the internet you can change your name and the MC Yusaku chose Playmaker, its not as light hearted as the other series and starts very much like 5ds with a more serious mc but Yusaku isnt as nice as Yusei and besides his man in the hotdog truck prefers to do things alone
Even simpler summary: Card Games In VRMMOs!
