Because DA doesn't fit the game style. He's crowding the paint. ain't moving and cause no movement on offense. make fake screens, so the ball handler gets stuck and must give him the ball for a mid range. On D, he is too soft and can't protect the rim and too slow to get out of the paint, and if he does, they crossover him easily, so he doesn't fit the defensive identity of the young core either. While Big D is a huge defensive asset. he can't get out of the paint fast enough either, but can defend the rim so well that others can cover for that. and on offense when he screens it is noticeable. About ant it is mostly he can't D well. Both by the way are super talented, I can go same way about that. They just don't fit the game style.
Love how you act as if Ant is not bad offensively too. Because HE IS. He hurts his team offensively. Doesn't matter how many points he scores in the clutch, or how many threes he's hit in his career, it hurts, not helps. Not just a iso-scorer, no, he's a heroball fool who gets tunnelvision and forces up so many bad shots, ignores his teammates more often than not, and forces horrible passes, because he cannot run a offense. He's not a point guard with playmaking skills, he never will be. The team keeps forcing him to play some weird combo guard role, and it AIN'T EVER GONNA WORK. He does NOT have that ability, period.
Right now it’s like the parents are out of town with Ayton and Simons, and the youngins are letting loose. I’m concerned that when that parents get back into town the play is going to go back to the old way. That’s no shade to Ayton or Simons, I’m just saying they don’t contribute to winning basketball.

Simons doesn't want to be here, plz just trade him. It would be nice to close the book on the Terry Stotts era of letting undersized guards not worry about playing defense. CJM and Simons have fought through about 3 screens combined in their entire NBA careers.
lol. I love the idea they collectively have only managed to figure out how to fight through screens three times. Hilarious, because I love hating on them. They both suck, though Ant more. Ant is a far worse decision maker, is incapable of running a offense, cannot playmake for the life of himself, and unlike CJ, gets tunnel vision nonstop offensively, too, forcing up terrible contested shots in iso at all times. He acts like his teammates aren't even there half the time, and he is the only person on his team on the court. Ant has needed to go for YEARS, much like Dame and CJ needed to get sent out for YEARS before they did. Not wanting him here, it's mutual!
@@TheCriminalViolin Thank you! I know that CJ particularly seemed like a great guy and he can fill it up for sure. But he (and Simons of course) just were not made to play defense. I blame Stotts because he did not hold them accountable. Dame was not good on defense either but he at least gave it more effort!
Really had hopes that Simons was gonna develop into a more dominant player, but we’re likely seeing his peak at this point. He could also find himself on a really, really good team and develop as a third option that way. Like Klay.
Listening to this episode I was visualizing a team building decision tree - with scenarios as a function of time, health, various player development outcomes, contracts, and enter subj. Ayton and Simons, etc. Never-ending but fun stuff…
I like it! You can't get everything right when trying to build a team but how you make the decisions is important and each choice impacts the next. Good stuff.
When they make 3s everybody looks good. And the start of the season they were way too passive and deferential. They now are playing much harder. It will be interesting to see how Ant and Ayton play when they get back with this new energy and focus. They do have too many guys that need to play, so they will have to be creative in managing that challenge.
Will allowing Scoot to play and develop with the same 4 guys next to him help them build the team as a whole. He looked like a true pg today with 8 assists before going down.
Sharp and Rob returning made the team better, good point. I like the Sharp Advi and DB combo. It could be interesting to see more of that and WO Simons it makes sense.
If Camara can get a good consistent offensive game going, he could be a star in the making. He’s tall, super athletic, good rebounder, blocks and steals shots. He’s already one of the best defensive players in the league.
I am also of the opinion that it is better to trade a guy a year too soon than a year too late. There is a risk with being patient also. Hopefully, Ant can come back and bring his trade value to where it was at the end of last season. Also, in terms of Time Lord. I am sorry to say this, but he is in the trade now column. Too fragile. Let him shine, get what we can from him, and wish him well. Doesn't make me happy, but if we are playing the long game toward greatness, these kinds of sacrifices are needed. Thanks Mike. I particularly enjoyed this thoughtful episode.
I’m on the trade the vets train. They are miserable to watch and defense is 80% effort. If they can’t trade them, they can play off the bench until they decide to buy in and play defense.
All, except perhaps wait on the Rob train. Originally I had zero issues against trading him for the first solid package, but in seeing just how much he's helping and leading our young guys, and no doubt being a phenomenal mentor to Donovan Clingan, I think keeping him around for at least this full season, perhaps one more year would be a smart idea. And his contract is actually surprisingly affordable for what you get from him. Obviously, you still consider any trades that are genuinely high value for the future with him involved, but only part with him if the package is indeed THAT GOOD.
And the offense is stagnant. Grant plays like he is Kobe when he should be playing like Aaron Gordon. Simons plays like Poole when he should be playing like Donte. The problem is these guys are not playing within the flow of the game. They force up bad shots instead of playing for good looks. The reason the team look better is because they are generating a healthy diet of good shots. Of course, Sharpe has the skill set to take tough shots but that should be the exception not the standard. Shae is on the trajectory of Shai when he was in his 3rd season. Sharpe is in the process of learning how to control the game and get to his spots whenever he needs to.
