According to you, people suffering from high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, liver disease, and digestive problems also do no derseve health care becase these illnesses can be caused by alcohol abuse, but is that the only cause? You sound like my husband who thinks obesity is purely a function of willpower, but is far too simplistic. Ya’ll don’t take into account all the other factors that ultimately determine what people do and when they do it. Here are some factors that are leading causes of weight gain, obesity and metabolic disease, many of which have nothing to do with willpower. 1. Genetics, 2. Junk-Foods (also cheap foods). 3. Food addictions ( caused by parenting) and not the child who grows up in that household, so should they be punished for their sins of their parents, who prabably didn’t know that sugary foods are as addictive as drugs and alcohol? 4. Aggressive marking of certain foods. 5. Insulin (Hormones). 6. Medications side effects. 7. Leptin resistance. In South Africa and the USA the main factor is poverty, which is Government’s problem because poor people have no choice when it comes to what they eat in most cases.
