@@JP-xw2kf Most people working on video game design aren't that good at their games, but doing their job. Sakurai is well known for how much he tries play testing, though. And even the meme of him being able to play with 4 controllers by himself. He loves fighting games, and his smash games, and tests everything personally, on top of the usual testers.
@@flannelsone1159Around 2:07 he mentions some promotional material filmed on Sakurai's tv had footage of the BTT in question that was technically the world record
Tbf Sakurai has been a big fan of fighting games even back in the 90's; remember that Kirby Super Star has tons of fighting game elements attached to it as well.
I’d love to see a complete series on break the targets. Even if some of the courses are less interesting they can always be shortened and bundled with others into one video
Name another world record history that includes the lead dev doing an extremely competent run before the game even released. And it wasn't even his fastest run. What a legend
hey im a smash 64 classic runner and this video is amazing with amazing coverage, this got shared in the smash 64 speedrunning discord and you did amazing work. keep it up
Amazing to see some BTT speedrunning exposure! It is such an incredibly cool speedrun to try out and I highly recommend anyone with even the slightest bit of interest to try lowering some times yourself! Super rewarding and fun.
Great video. Focusing on a timeline of tiny innovations and seeing the time creep down by tenths of seconds makes each and every hard-worked improvement feel so huge.
Oh hell yeah I love break the targets history. One of the most famous ones being Peach's one which required ridiculous amounts of RNG for 2 beam sword pulls
Alright, that's it, I'm officially clicking the bell for this one. Your content is constantly stuff that interests me and it's always so well done. Keep it up, plz!
Love this. Summoning salt created the genre and I'm so grateful people aren't leaving the whole space to him because I'm loving these world record history videos.
Everyone's already given their props, but it really is pretty crazy that even for 20 years of time with the game, people have only been able to do it about 50% faster than Sakurai did way back then. Granted 50% *is* a lot, but a lot of games will be *way* more drastic than that from first major record to current record, especially for games that old.
Entertaining video. ♡ I'm definitely interested in watching the stories behind the other break the targets records. Played that crap for hours and days with my brothers.
i'd love to see a world record progression video for each course! that was some very interesting stuff! you broke everything down and explained it perfectly!
The video I saw on Peach's melee break the targets record history was great. I kniw that wasn't you but I wanted to say Id love to see more stages on break the targets, or board the platforms
This was well put together! Up there with Summoning Salt videos in my opinion, with less emphasis on rivalries, individual player commentary, and frequent chillwave stylings. Look forward to more of these.
There is something so satisfying about specifically break the targets speed running histories. Cause every time it feels like they can't optimize it at all, and then they do, but it's not necessarily because they just discovered a huge new trick, it's just cause they routed it better
Great stuff. I would love to see the history of all levels. But why they got rid of break the target in the new smash still is beyond me. It was my favorite part of the first two games.
Your videos are so consistently high quality content, I hope your channel takes off soon, you deserve it man! Happy New Years, can’t wait to see what you have for us in 2022
I would love to see more videos like this. When I was 15 I managed to near mimic a lot of the WR times at the time with my friend. He still asks me to help him redo it with that every now and then and I'm like, it feels daunting now "I'm too old for that" But looking at this video now I'm like "I could do that... when I was in my prime."
I've been watching speed running history videos for a few weeks now just trying to to understand it better before I get into speed running myself and when I was able to notice the slight change in NT's run almost right away it felt good. I didn't realize he was changing directions at first, I thought he just canceled the upB somehow at the top of the jump, but I knew something happened there. I was kind of right
sakurai's run is so impressive for the game not even being out yet. wow
uh yea he probably made the course himself

@@JP-xw2kf nothing obvious from that, the common misconception that anybody involved in a game is automatically good at it.
lmao
you guys are coping hard. smash is sakurai's baby he knows his game inside and out
Sakurai was a world record holder, and that is just hilarious.
I don't see anything about Sakurai in the video
@@flannelsone1159Around 2:07 he mentions some promotional material filmed on Sakurai's tv had footage of the BTT in question that was technically the world record
He has a very good run
of cause a dev will be the first world record holder. like always.

I agree, this was very interesting.
Also agree, this was excellently done
Same here!
you do make a point.
Luigi break the target is just a box lol
Name another world record history that includes the lead dev doing an extremely competent run before the game even released. And it wasn't even his fastest run. What a legend
No you
dunno why but sakurai being a world record holder amuses me endlessly...
Do more of these!
As a smash 64 runner it’s really cool to see content about the game. Really well made vid, thanks for putting in the time to make this.

Absolutely yes, I and I'm sure at least a few others would like more smash speedrun content from you if all possible, sorry if I sound greedy.
Greed for content is actively encouraged
I'm not just going to hit like on this comment to let you know we want more - I'm smashing letters on my keyboard to make my point known.
@Abyssoft in that case more smash content please
I would very much like a series where you go through these records. Prime content as far as im concerned
You have reminded me of the ONLY target run I could NOT complete.
I'd love to see Home-Run Contest and Board the Platform history videos as well.
It'd be really cool to see you talk about some of the other BTT WR progressions.
Wow you got me in the end. I was thinking "Damn a 9'10 is an amazing time, maybe sometime in the future we'll get a sub 9" and then you revealed it!
Love this. Summoning salt created the genre and I'm so grateful people aren't leaving the whole space to him because I'm loving these world record history videos.
I loved this one and would definitely watch more!! Like everyone, I remember how incredibly frustrating Break the Targets was.
Wait Sakurai had the first WR? That's really funny. Great video. I wish the logo was more 64 focused as the background is melee FD I believe.
Played decent bit of 64, this is an amazing video. Thanks for covering the game
Just awesome! Thanks to you I can learn about these runs otherwise Id have no idea about. Cheers! Have a great 2022! You deserve much more views
Closing in on Summoning Salt level speedrun coverage.
Some friends and I used to play this all the time back in the N64 days. One of my all time favorite games on any system.

You're in for a good time, the next video is another Smash topic
Idk why but I really enjoy videos of the history of the BtT speedruns.
Really enjoying these speed running channels that summarize everything for me
good video, i'd love to see other overviews like this for other games and characters!
Please do continue with target smash videos. I love this sort of deep dive into shallow waters.
This is the exact type of content I love.
Abyssoft and Smash. 2 things that I really like.
Nice video
Yes I want to see more! I love smash and smash 64 and break the targets, they never should have removed
Please make this a series! I would love to see more!
I'd love to see more BTT, in both 64 and Melee.
8:25 you see, what we have here is a guy playing a “Break the Targets” stage in Smash Bros. For the Nintendo 64.
This video is amazing. The only thing missing was the "We're finally landing" theme song and 55 min length like Summoning Salt lol.
There is something so satisfying about specifically break the targets speed running histories. Cause every time it feels like they can't optimize it at all, and then they do, but it's not necessarily because they just discovered a huge new trick, it's just cause they routed it better
more smash content for sure, love these break the target videos man
Great stuff. I would love to see the history of all levels. But why they got rid of break the target in the new smash still is beyond me. It was my favorite part of the first two games.
Some sort of mega video with all the time trial target break thingies would be super Duper sick
Ya I want more of this for the other Target courses.
Great video. I’d love to see the history in all of the break the targets
The quality of your videos is insane and I look forward to your next one !
More smash speedrun content! Great video man, immediately subbed 😁

a btt world record history for every individual game would be awesome
I want more break the target speed run content. Thank you.
Great video! More Smash content would be highly appreciated. Thank you!
This was very interesting and well made! I would love to see more videos like this
Please more this, thoroughly enjoyed my dude
I miss Break the Targets.
would love more of these! maybe a series? greaz video once again :)
I do in fact want more smash content
Thanks for the interesting vid!
Excellent as always. I hope you continue covering btt record histories
Now this is content
That Sakurai run was actually clean as fuck...
I was sad that smash the targets did not continue into newer Smash games.
Another was Smash Run.
Those were fun modes too.
We want more Smash content, that is why I let you know down here.
Always cool to see this kind of stuff progress!
Sakurai has a sub 8, he's just been too busy to record it
Amazing work as usual! I would love to see more smash content but I seem to be interested in whatever you pick anyways! Have a good one!
I want more of N64 games!! This one as Well!
This was an epic video please do more of these target ones so fascinating ❤
Fox target history PLZ subbed
Oh man this just gave me childhood gaming PTSD
I’ve never seen a world record history like this where the first record holder for a category is the creator of the game itself
As a competitive melee player who loves speedrun content, oh fuck yeah
great video! more 64 content like this please
Good video. I'd love more videos like this.
Imagine playing smash bros 64 with the pimps and playas in this videos comment section. It would be legendary
Do more, for sure!
More Smash content is never bad!
More target records!!
OH what I can't believe I underestimated Sakurai like that
Nice intro
I never knew that Smash 64 had more moves like the boomerang
I'm pretty proud that I noticed the back air change, but not him turning around.
More break the record videos!!!
This was fucking awesome to watch! I really enjoyed this! I could watch more of this if you want to make them
