de la Rey [1980 Afrikaans Film]

This film tells the story of General Jacobus Herculaas “Koos” de la Rey (22 October 1847 - 15 September 1914), also remembered fondly as the “Lion of the West”. General de la Rey was a Boer general, member of the Volksraad, member of the Transvaal parliament, delegate to the National Convention, and Senator. One of the fiercest guerrilla fighters during the war, General de la Rey is also remembered for his opposition to the Anglo-Boer War, yet when war became a reality he committed himself fully to the republican cause where he conducted a brilliant campaign against the British. His enemies would also remember him as one of the most chivalrous generals during the unfortunate conflict. This film however also touches upon his death - tragic, unexpected, and just as a new rebellion was stirring in the republican midst.
Hierdie film vertel die verhaal van Generaal Jacobus Herculaas "Koos" de la Rey (22 Oktober 1847 - 15 September 1914), ook bekend as die "Leeu van die Wes-Transvaal" . Generaal De la Rey was 'n Boeregeneraal, lid van die Volksraad, lid van die Transvaalse Parlement, afgevaardigde na die Nasionale Konvensie, en Senator. Een van die felste guerrillavegters tydens die oorlog, word generaal de la Rey ook onthou vir sy teenkanting teen die Anglo-Boereoorlog; maar wanneer die oorlog onstuitbaar geword het het hy hom ten volle tot die Republikeinse saak verbind waar hy 'n briljante veldtog teen die Britte gevoer het. Sy vyande het hom ook onthou as een van die mees ridderlike generaals tydens die ongelukkige konflik. Hierdie film raak egter ook aan sy dood - tragies, onverwags, en net toe 'n nuwe rebellie in die Republikeinse midde begin roer.

Hi, I´m writing from Argentina. I´m interested in anglo-Boer wars, also in Boer people and culture. I know that at the end of the II Anglo-Boer war, a group of Boers emigrate to Argentina, and they settle down in Patagonia region, establishing a Colony. And still there are some few people who speaks Afrikaans. Unfortunately I don't speak afrikaans, but I´m very interested in your´s videos. I'm in South Africa, by Cape Town. The sound seems a bit bad. It's a case of not can't understand it, but not hear it. That's at least at the beginning.
Aar, so the film is not the Anglo-Boer War, but the First World War. At the beginning of that war there was like a mini Anglo Boer War in South Africa. That was between supporters of Germany and supporters of Britain. The latter eventually triumphed. And, then was the campaign against German South-west Africa.
In the film is also, it seems, the Afrikaner, van Rensburg, who was like Nostradamus.
