Speaking as a film historian, this film, directed by Ivan Hall was one of the many pro armed forces films made in South Africa in the 1970s - such as Mirage Eskader, Ses Soldate, 40 Days etc. and was the sequel to the very controversial and successful "Kaptein Caprivi", with many of the same characters returning. The dam shown is probably not Kariba as no filming could take place in the former Rhodesia due to the war. The flight to rescue scene remains very thrilling. 😊
Tullio Moneta (9 May 1937 - 31 March 2022) was an Italian actor and mercenary. He acted in 15 films between 1970 and 1990, starring in the feature film The Lion's Share. He was, together with Mike Hoare, the military advisor for the film The Wild Geese (1978). In November 1981 Moneta was second-in-command to Mike Hoare when the latter led the 1981 Seychelles coup d'état attempt at Mahe Airport in the Seychelles and was sentenced to five years in prison; he was released soon after. Don't get me wrong i am damn proud of the old SADF but one thing that always bothered me in these old movies in how the contribution of black,coloured and indian soldiers fighting against communist forces and their defence of the Republic of South Africa against the enemy is down played in these movies they,really needed more credit.Other than that these movies where great.
