You'll definitely want to check out our Showdown on Thursday then! We're pretty excited that we had the chance to put them side by side, as well as put both the Stinger and Regal on the drag strip to see which is the best performer in a quarter mile!
I don't think comparing this to the Stinger is a good match. This Buick Regal GS is not made to be a 100% sports car unlike the Stinger that is marketed like that. this Regal is made for entry level luxury sports sedan that is most easy to drive around like luxury brand is, but the power is there when it is needed to deliver the hp when needed. Buick has never market this model to take on other sports cars like a mustang, camero, or even the Stinger but to be a simple fun entry level luxury sports car. I think you should compare the Stinger to a Cadillac V series models that are actually marketed to take on other sports brands. I really don't think it's a fair competition for this and the Stinger...
We'll see if we can get our hands on the Envision sometime this winter! GM's swapping in their winter fleet by November, so we're hoping to get some more of their SUVs.
They need it, especially after our Showdown with the Stinger you can see just how the Regal performs. The one benefit of GM is their insanely large fleet, so for them it's likely easier to up-sell a customer to a Camaro with the non-supercharged V8.
The detuned 3.0TT at 350hp/350tq can take the spot of the current NA V6 Camaro and Regal GS for starters. It can even slot between Cadillac’s 2.0T and 3.6TT. The NA V6 is simply underpowered compared to all the TT V6. Get the word out to GM
The chevrolet ss was a ss commodore here in Australia. Rear wheel drive locally made. That Buick regal is the exact car we have here from Germany. Right hand drive and front wheel drive only. Badged as a Holden Commodore. No Australian Car Manufacturers left. All imports now.
I seen this at the LA Auto Show this year, and I actually plan to buy it as soon as I'm paying off my 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander GT. I really love the seats of how they conform to my body cuz I got a small frame, but also that it doesn't try too hard to look like it's the fastest car on the road like some other brands. This is meant to be a entry level luxury sports car for most people and given that it has a simple design with over a 300 horsepower engine gives it a unique look and feel. Even though this is a European Vehicle, it was still designed by GM before they sold the brand off, so I'm still considering this as a real GM vehicle
Well done! I am a Buick Regal 2014 owner. Bought my American car, manufactured in Canada and designed in Germany. I have not been disappointed. It has served me well and the pricing was very reasonable for what I got. I find the 4 cylinder turbo adequate. It runs better in manual mode. The lag although not overwhelming is a bit frustrating at times. I bought it with my eyes open understanding the tradeoffs. I like the idea of a 6 and really like the idea of the sportback. Wish it were a little more powerful and hope in the new year some upgraded options will be added regarding interior alternatives. Buick positions itself as a "near" luxury car. GM should allow them some more autonomy in design and take the training wheels off. It feels almost.
Glad to hear that you've got the previous generation! We're curious to see what the future holds for Buick, and if GM opens it up more instead of it being in the shadow of Cadillac.
I love Holden a lot. Their cars are so good looking. I don’t care for opel as much. Can’t wait to see the Kia Stinger showdown. I’d love to see a Stinger GT vs Chevy SS showdown.
They have done that comparison In Australia. Stinger blew it into the weeds. th-cam.com/video/maUSstd_Uko/w-d-xo.html Holden was offering 3 year warranty and now has upped it to 5 year. All Kia,s in Australia get 7 year, unlimited km warranties. Imagine that on any other performance car.
.....in Europe this car called "OPEL INSIGNIA".....this one got a 2,0 litre 4cylinder inside, the old Modell was a 2,8 litre V6 Biturbo- Hammer and Looks like a Pitt-Bul....this new Version is a little bit boring I think, but hey....for the american market there is a V6....AWESOME !!! BR from Germany :)
I haven't driven this "new" Regal, but it's the ONLY GM vehicle I would consider buying. You can pick the non-GS versions for a pretty cheap price on the used market with low mileage.
Hi Nile, this Buick Regal is demonstrative of the brand's move towards European-inspired luxury, which seems to the dominant ethos of the luxury market (perhaps Lincoln is an exception). In this case, the Regal is not just European inspired, it's European derived. While I can appreciate GM's motivation for moving Buick in this direction, I do miss the Buicks of the past - Centurys, Regals, LeSabres, Park Avenues, and Roadmasters. They provided the consumer with choices at many price levels of the the Buick experience - a cushy ride, a spacious and quiet cabin, and formal styling. Other than a used Buick, what car now provides the most similar experience? I can't really think of one.
That is certainly true! Buick had some pretty legendary cars over the years, and they were significantly different from their Chevrolet/Oldsmobile brothers. Unfortunately I don't think we'll ever get that same nostalgic feeling for any brand moving forward, the automotive world has changed significantly from the 80s and 90s, that even cars from BMW or Mercedes will never feel the same as they did back then. We do hope to get the chance to find some older Buicks to feature on this show, we'd love to find a mint Roadmaster, there's one in our town but it looks like she's been sitting under a tree for the better part of this decade.
We hope so too! We're lucky we got to film the Stinger against this one on the drag, and we're hoping with any performance vehicles we can get in the future we can make it happen!
You might be surprised! We think this is the best Showdown episode we've done so far, we get to do something new with the cars, and have a truly outstanding paring of vehicles. I'm excited to see what everyone thinks come Thursday!
Kia stinger 0-60 is 4.6secs the 2019 Buick Regal sportback gs is 0-60 in 5.2secs but it’s storage is double far more reliable better interior and just looks nicer
Just like the Chevy SS sedan,I would buy one if they were like 15K cheaper. For this problem,I am currently car shopping ,I'll be 3 year leasing a Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport.
Very nice! That was one of the issues with the SS was cost, mostly due to it needing to be imported from Australia, added a lot to the cost of the vehicle. It was always an interesting car, never saw that many on the road, but you'd notice it when one drove by!
We always have trouble properly filming headlights and any nigh-shots, but we wanted to include the uniqueness of the high beams. Overall the LED performance is good, we just wish they had adaptive or cornering laps like most Premium segment vehicles.
Perpetual Radio Networks That is interesting as the Buick website lists cornering lamps as included with the LED headlamps. I wonder what they are referring to
We thought we saw them coming back from the drag race night, but after further testing we couldn't get them to work. The LaCrosse had them, on top of adaptive lighting.
I've asked about performance, GM is happy with their offerings, saying that if a buyer comes into their show room and wants more performance they can offer them a Camaro or a Cadillac CTS-V, they don't seem to have any interest in making this any faster than it already is unfortunately.
Definitely is! It's too bad this left the North American market, it was a great car. We were in Michigan last weekend and spotted many of the Regal wagons while there.
I've see both of these cars from the outside but haven't been inside, judging from the reviews the leather in the Buick looks lower quality. Also leather no option of different color At least Kia offers red option. According to other reviews the Buick engine stops when coming to a stop but can't be deactivated The Kia can but when you restart car the next day it automatically goes to on and have to manually option off if this is the case both cars need to address this. The Price seems to be same so I would go with the KIa Better looks more power. I wonder which one will do better in the future in terms of reliability?
Reliability will definitely be a key factor for people, but that's something we won't truly know for a while, until both vehicles get driven enough to wear in. As for the auto-start stop, we should have mentioned that during this episode, but it seems we forgot to add it during our dislike section of the video. Perhaps our mistake was that we talked about it in our Showdown, and forgot to add it in during post-production for this episode. But it's true, with the Buick you're unable to de-activate the auto-stop feature, meaning the car will likely turn the engine off when you come to a complete stop. The Kia has a button to disable it, but as you mentioned it will reset each time you start the car up.
Vince A fully loded stinger is easily 6-10k more than a regal. Also, my uncle bought a stinger and the pain has had issues, the window seals have had issues and the leather is already showing signs of aging less than a year into ownership
This is a great looking car, I think the problem is General Motors has done a horrible job of marketing their cars. They could’ve even used the fact that this was a German built vehicle as a marketing tool for BMW drivers. Also, they brought the car over to America with slightly less horsepower than the Kia stinger, So for the same price, you can have a better choice that has better performance. This is a major head scratcher for me with general motors they bring the car out, From the Corvette to Cadillacs, bring these cars out as competitors to other brands, and they always lose in performance and price, I want to root for them I wanna support them, but they are their own worst enemy.
No way this rebranded Opel Insignia can compete against Kia stinger, since the first one is a mainstream car from a mediocre brand, the second is a totaly new and specificaly build for compete against premium cars
You'll have to wait to find out! We actually saw an identical 2018 Regal GS in the same red on our way to film the Showdown episode. During our week with the Stinger we never saw another one. Either way though, on paper these two are pretty similar with a lot of the same features, but once we take em on the drag strip we finally see which is the true winner ;)
Has a great voice and monologue. And presents facts nicely. But I stopped the review. I had to. If I heard any more of the Kia stinger comparisons I’d fall asleep. I just watched your Kia v Buick comparison test drive.
It looks good but in my opinion kia stinger is better in every aspect ( power , looks , handling , interior design and quality ... etc )
You'll definitely want to check out our Showdown on Thursday then! We're pretty excited that we had the chance to put them side by side, as well as put both the Stinger and Regal on the drag strip to see which is the best performer in a quarter mile!
Perpetual Radio Networks can’t wait to see that showdown episode it should be good and interesting 👍🏽👌🏽🔥🔥
We're hoping it'll be a hit! We don't often have the opportunity to feature two cars as close as these are.
I also like the Kia stinger better but I like the Lexus GS F or GS350 F Sport better than both.
I don't think comparing this to the Stinger is a good match. A de-tuned 3.0TT V6 from Cadillac will do wonders in this car. Give it 350hp/350 ft/lb

that would get my money...it would be the perfect car for me!
I used to dream like you.

It's really unfortunate what happened with Holden.
Nah we got the awd models as well in liftback and wagon models aswell as the 3.6 v6 with an extra 5hp more then the American model (315hp)

That's great to hear! We really liked the Regal, we're glad GM hasn't planned to kill it off yet.

In Holland The same car is known as the Opel Insignia. And you see them on every street corner. Opels sell really well in europe.
We left a little easter egg at the end of this video about the Opel, but we did mention it at the start also.
The interesting thing is, that you do not see the Insignias in Germany that often.
Who cares, the Regal is a good car
Beautiful machine! way better looking than the Kia
It's too bad GM killed this one off though, we really liked it!

Haha! That’s true, the American market loves their exotic V6s 😉
.....YEAAAHH, I know :D
I wish GM would have kept the Park Avenue. I had a 2000 Park Avenue Ultra and loved it! With the Supercharged 3.8 V6, perfect Sleeper Sedan
GM’s certainly going in a different direction these days, it’s unfortunate that the American manufacturers are abandoning sedans.

You called it right - Regal GS to be discontinued after 2020.
It’s sad but definitely not unexpected.

It’s like the previous generation GS, but nothing like the trim just below the 80’s Grand National.
@@PRNTestDrive I knew it the original was sportier
Is this the fastest car Buick’s made?
It’s probably heavier than the Lacross because it is all wheel drive.
Good point!
