This is how the 1997 Buick Regal injected the showroom with sporty flavor

  • The new 1997 Buick Regal was accompanied by a new 1997 Buick Century and the differences between the two models were primarily cosmetic, power options and seating configurations.
    The new 1997 Buick Regal was virtually the sportier upmarket version of the 1997 Buick Century, which had ditched the A-platform and now utilized the W-platform.
    The 1997 Buick Regal offered fancier trim and larger engines-once again featuring the 3800 engine, although it was a newer variant. The new Regal offered the L36 Series II V6 and the L67 Series II supercharged V6, both displacing 3.8 liters.
    The sedan was offered in two models, the LS and the sportier GS.
    Other than trim and features, the main difference between the LS and GS was under the hood.
    The LS was powered by the naturally aspirated 3800 Series II V6, generating 195 horsepower and 220 pound-feet of torque. The GS featured the supercharged mill, cranking out 240 hp with a V-8-style 280 pound-feet of torque at just 3600 rpm.
    Power was put to the pavement via the front wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission. The GS got the heavier-duty version to compensate for the additional torque of the supercharged engine.
    With its Eaton M90 supercharger, the GS utilized the heavy-duty transmission otherwise known as the 4T65-E (HD).

    I own a 98 buick regal gs, that car is so fun to drive. Has a throttle response of a small v8, and it sounds amazing. The suspension feels good too, the general handling mostly.

    Very good. I liked how you covered the Regal of the 70's and 80's all the way to the end. Buick LaCrosse got mentioned. You shared them all and the connection between the Century as well. You found some excellent photos and graphics to share as well. You covered the Chinese Buick Regal and the one used as a Chevrolet Lumina as well. I liked the fact you showed the Regal coupe too. The Regal is still sold in China. It was a excellent job. You also researched your information as well.

    I had a 2001 Regal LS. Thanks for pointing out that there were real differences between it and a Pontiac/Chevrolet. Despite shared platforms the Buicks always felt better put together to me.

    Interesting info. I didn't get or get a chance to drive this particular Regal. Yet and still, my 1st personal vehicle was a 1991 Regal, that I bought in 1996.
    I won't lie, I was vaguely interested in this one after noticing the new body design. However, with my '91 model, my buddies and some others were crazy about the digital dash that my '91 had

      Thanks for sharing, the 1991s are uncommon now. I don’t see third-generations on the road, but every time I’m out, almost guaranteed to see several fourth-generation cars.

      @@MotorMaster_Stunticon here in Chicago I've seen a few similar to the one I had. Mine was dark blue. I got hub caps for it. Had 3 stolen while shopping one time, so I took off the one left behind. Those days, some thought I was the "law" 🤣
      I've rarely seen the 4th Gen Regals lately. I will see more Centuries that have that similar body design

    9:25 is giving me Lexus vibes
    I think those subtle changes to the front and rear would’ve fared well if we had that version in the US.
    Kudos for such a refreshing and nostalgic vibe on the everyday cars that got us around back in the day (and still do for some).

    Other than the usual Buick/GM buyers, who was this car intended for? Acura shoppers? The Olds Aurora was a better vehicle and didn't have a rental version (Century) that looked nearly identical. That said, I wouldn't mind having one as a runabout. No chance I would have spent the money on a new one, though.

    • @MotorMaster_Stunticon
      @MotorMaster_Stunticon  ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s a good question. It wasn’t marketed to Acura/luxury import buyers since that was the point of the revamped Oldsmobile lineup. I read somewhere that they targeted the typical Camry/Accord/Taurus/Sable buyers. Not sure how true that is. I agree about the Aurora, but that vehicle was much pricier.

      @iluvcamaros1912 ปีที่แล้ว

      In a 2005 LaCrosse dealer training video they compare it to a Camry XLE - the nicest Camry. So if the same applies here GM was thinking uplevel Camry/Accord alternative.
