    I just checked my Honda HRX 217 from 2011, there is absolutely no sign of wear on the spring or on the spring connection points on the brackets. Informative video though, thanks!

    I’ve had my hrx217 since 2012. It finally failed last Saturday. I thought the spring just came off. I tried to put the spring back on and that bracket shot out. I discovered just like you. I didn’t or the spring you mentioned but I think I will. Thanks for the video.

    I’ve got this one too but went back to my old HR194. It was stored, dry for 10 yrs....fresh oil & gas & HALF a pull & it started right up! Old one was best. 😁

    I just looked up the part numbers on the Honda site for this spring on the HRX217 and compared it to the HRR216 spring. It's the same part number (24468-VE1-T00). The probable reason for not addressing or changing the spring is they may already have millions of these springs and don't have any other use for them. Or maybe they may have addressed in newer models. The HRN216 spring has a different part number (24468-VL0-P00). The spring looks the same in the diagram but attaches to the top of the deck instead of the rear (now vertical instead of horizontal). The HRN transmission doesn't look nearly as "Beefy" as the HRX, either.
    Thanks for the Oregon part number. I haven't had the issue yet but then; I haven't taken either of the mowers apart that far to check. That's going to change really quick.
    Please post any other quirks that you have noticed on the machines if you can. It would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks again. Have a Great Day!

    Ok. I got the spring you suggested and installed it on my new transmission. While it did work on the flats, on hills it bogged down. I replaced the spring with the heavy spring that honda calls for and the mower propeller much better. I think the lighter spring allows the belt to slip under a heavier load. My mower is a hrx217kvka with smart drive.

    • @clsmallenginerepair3814
      @clsmallenginerepair3814  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That spring is just a return spring. It returns the transmission to neutral. It shouldn't have anything to do with belt tension. There's an adjustment for tension on the cable.

    • @patgallagher1788
      @patgallagher1788 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      On mine the spring provides tension on the belt. The cable operates a lever that engages the transmission. Without the heavier spring, the belt slips on the pulleys and doesn't propel as well. I tried it both ways.

I tried to adjust the cable that didn't seam to work. The belt is there and intact. Since you have worked on many these do you have any ideas of what it could be? How do you know if the trans is bad?

      Not had many head issues. The engines are usually bulletproof. Except for that choke system, can be hard to start when they get some age on them. Most problems I see is the design of the body and transmission. But they're a good mower, just like all mowers, they all have some issues..
