      I agree with you on both accounts, but I think it's a stronger and more versatile vehicle all around also.
      I have several police cars (2 CVPIs & 3 FIPSs) of both platforms and the Taurus's are super fast,and full of gadgets.....kinda like a smartphone with twin turbos(a techies dream car),and the Crown Vic's are kinda primitive and practical,like a good old Rambo survival knife.
      (But I wouldn't recommend bringing a smartphone📱 to a knife⚔ fight..
      I love me some WFO howling 4.6 throttle body and whirring overrun alternator pulley sounds during 7000rpm shifts to get the attention of anyone in a 4 block radius anyday.

At 2AM all alone in the middle of nowhere hauling ass down a gravel road I definitely prefer a good ol' Crown Vic. Chargers have a better get up and go but are hard to see out of, especially with a cage.

    great video. I agree with your points... the Crown Vic is bigger and incredibly reliable while the Taurus is newer and more high tech. I always prefer driving V8's over V6's because the V6's seem like they need to be revved up quite a bit to get any acceleration whereas the V8 doesn't take much pedal to get going. For me the MPG ends up being the same.

    My family has a 2003 Ford Crown Victoria P71 and 2013 Ford Taurus Civilian (2.0 4-cyl EcoBoost). I prefer the Crown Victoria's ride. I don't like the light feel to the Taurus. It's interesting because the Taurus is certainly not light. The Taurus blind spots are a pain when trying to back out of a parking spot so I make it a point to back in a parking spot. We're getting 27.5 MPG average with the Taurus and 21 MPG avg with the Crown Victoria. There's already a rattling noise in the dash of the Taurus at 54k miles. There's no rattling in the Crown Victoria almost at 124k miles. I do believe that the Crown Victoria is much less maintenance and cheaper to maintain. And it's tough. I question the Taurus. Transmission is acting funny.

      4cy that gets v6 mpg? My 07 impala i owned back in 09-2011 got a consistent 27mpg commuting to work for the 60-70,000 miles I owned it. My Police and civilian crown Victorias both get 22-24mpg mixed. CVPI gets 24mpg highway civilian gets a solid 30mpg at legal 65-70 mph. Not impressed with EcoBoost mpg honestly. I spent 5 years in a crown Vic, biggest issue aside from normal wear oil brakes and tires was the ac fan went out about once a year. $35-50 fix and ten minutes to take out and replace. More room hip head and knee, slower on the start and floats like a boat at 100+mph
    Drove a Taurus interceptor for 6 weeks, miserable to get in and out of for a tall person, fast off the line and hugged the turns like a boss. I gave it back and asked for my 7 year old crown Vic back because I’m 6’6” and getting in and out of the Taurus and constantly sitting with my knees in the dash made me miserable.

    Although the crown Vic is and always will be the king of cop cars, I’d say the Taurus is the more practical option for the money. I just purchased a ‘14 Interceptor Sedan with 121K miles and I couldn’t be more happy with it. I looked at both this and the crown Vic and the main reasons I chose the Sedan over the vic was that for a $1000 price difference you got: a modern car, good crash ratings and safety features, more horsepower, all wheel drive, and traction control/stability control which is a must out here in the Midwest. Be aware when you buy these cars that the water pump will most likely go out at about 80K miles. This is the stuff carfax doesn’t tell you. I’d recommend running the VIN through your local ford dealership and getting the detailed service log, mine went out at 75K miles and was replaced by the department while it was in service. Look for cars that were used in a small town/ detective cars as these are better maintained than a large city or county. And finally, besides any obvious cosmetic and mechanical flaws, look for ones with low idle hours. I love my Interceptor and I’d highly recommend it as a first, (relatively) inexpensive car

    @notoriouscvpi Great video. As an owner of both, I have to say the one glaring difference between them both is one you skipped over. The *all wheel drive* offered on the Taurus Interceptor platform is a real game changer. It's one of the main reasons a lot of departments in the Northeast have gone with them and the Explorers instead of other makes. The obvious cons are that the Taurus engines are manufactured with a lot of the systems like the water pump and power steering pump inside the engine. Which makes a routine failure of one of these a monster in labor and repair and down time.. I could replace both of these in under an hour on any Crown Vic. The other issue is wheel hubs that fail around 30-60k or so miles. They're a pain and really labor intensive to change out. Another plus or two for CVPI owners was the on board fire suppression units that some vics had when they were ultimately auctioned off, as well as the stab resistant (from the rear) front seats and in door Kevlar ballistic (bulletproof) panels.. no such luck will you find with any Taurus that makes it to a police auction. I do however like the slide out equipment tray Ford provides in the "Ready for the Road" package.

    Also, you did an excellent job on this video. Can we see a comparison of the Taurus Interceptor and Explorer Interceptor? Maybe a mashup of the Crown Victoria, Explorer and Taurus Interceptors? In 2016 Ford got their act together when it came to headlight brightness. In the Interceptor Utilitiy and Taurus they included LED headlights and taillights which was a huge improvement. Overall the Taurus is good for city departments and state patrol use. They aren't as spacious as the Exploders but are similar interior wise and get you where you want to go. I personally wouldn't own a former police car because I know first-hand how they are driven. Have fun with your car!

    In 1996, the Ford Crown Victoria P71 had a top speed of 132 mph with the 210 hp 4.6 V/8 (non-governed) It is conceivable that if the upgrade driveshaft was used in place of the aluminum, top speed with the 250 hp could hit 135 to 137 ungoverned in 2004 to 2011. I once saw a 4 valve Marauder 4.6 put in a P71 Crown Victoria going around the track at 146-8 mph top end. Unfortunately, the front air dam would deform badly (pucker up toward the bottom of the radiator) greatly affecting the aerodynamics.

      @@skeetermcswagger0U812 Sounds like a winner I may just look into that ECU tune. Though you might wanna check your numbers again on it topping out at 112mph, cause on several occasions I can confirm I've had my MKS at over 120mph I personally start getting nervous and slow it down from there lol but goddamn that thing still has life in it like it can pull way past that. Unless mine has already been tuned before I got it... don't know. But I love telling people "Starship Enterprise, preparing for launch" right before I mash the throttle to get on the e-way lol. Do you know if such a tune would require any special care in how you drive, or maintenance at all?

    • @skeetermcswagger0U812
      @skeetermcswagger0U812 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@man_on_wheelz I meant 122 mph should be the top speed on your MKZ...... and no there shouldn't be any additional maintenance or servicing other than an upgrade to a K&N air filter (its reusable),you can run an aftermarket thermostat, and a higher pressure/output mechanical fuel pump and if you upgrade your injectors for an E85 tune (you have to change injectors cause the twin Turbo Eco boost motors can't be run on E85) E85 is actually a performance boost if the car is capable of being used with the 85 which it's not in stock form.....and sinse it's a DTI (direct injection) motor I would also recommend a oil separator/catch can for longevity to keep carbon buildup from blow-by to a minimum.
      Another two cool modifications that aren't necessarily performance mods are muffler deletes and BOV(blow-off valve) delete to atmosphere.
      Both of which make the car sound amazing!!!!
      if you check it out on my channel you'll be able to hear what both mods do.

      @@skeetermcswagger0U812 I really hate that Lincoln went with MK letters for names cause people always get it wrong or hear it wrong lol, mine is the MKS, the big boy. Every time I try to get parts for it they think I said MKX, ughhh… guess it's a thing I gotta deal with owning this car. But anyway, I do like the sleeper status of my car, so I don't think I'll ever get into exhaust and blow-off valves, but everything else sounds good, I'll keep this in mind if I ever consider tuning it, thanks for your input. I'll browse your channel too, it's nice to see my motor doing work when someone gets a chance to open it up.

    The c.v. was built to last and be cheap and easy to rebuild replace parts. The new interceptors, K8a ( explorer) and taurus are built to be disposable after 100k miles not requiring rebuilding and less maintenance. Where I live the officers like the awd over the rwd. The taurus is hard for bigger officers to get out of quickly. We gave all the taurus to detectives and keep the explorers on patrol. The newer units do have their flaws, you mentioned the fuel pump driver issue, plus ptu issues, cat converters going out and the newest is the exhaust manifolds cracking causing exhaust to get into the cabin. Overall the newer units are faster, safer and cost effective for cities and the officers are happy with the change for the most part. In my city that is lol.

    As you so rightly pointed out, there are many advances, which come through modern automotive advancements, technology, and engine research. Thank you so much for sharing this! However, the CV was, obviously, not the fastest, the most technologically advanced, etc... That is not what made it the best law enforcement vehicle of all time! What made it work so well for cops, is the comfort and tank-like reliability! At three in the morning, when traveling down an extremely rural muddy country road, it performed like a truck! When sitting for hours on end on another 12 hour surveillance shift, it never overheated and served as our comfortable office! When transitioning from relatively idle speed neighborhood patrols straight into a balls to the walls, code three response or high-speed pursuit, it did so as if intuitively designed equally for both! When performing a PIT maneuver on another vehicle, it’s stance and balance was unrivaled! The CV just performed and worked, day in and out without hesitation! It is like the Glock pistol... Not the most accurate, not the best in marksmanship competitions, but, when your life depends on a firearm, right now, this second... It works, always!!! That was the CV police interceptor!

      I've had a couple 4v 4.6 and it is more complicated and unlikely to have the durability or ease of repair. They drive almost in the cars not suv's opposite of 4.6 2v which has low and mid and drops off toward redline. The 4v feels lazier without a much heavier foot low rpm but keeps pulling up through the range. Initial cost however kept the 32v from even getting that far in the realm of possibility.

    We have the 2018 3.7 awd interceptors. I prefer our 2010 Vic’s. In a patrol setting the awd gets horrible gas mileage I honestly get better in our Vic’s with 3.55 gears. The 3.7 is just a high rev engine in my opinion the Vic I can get in the power band quicker.

    • @cardinaloflannagancr8929
      @cardinaloflannagancr8929 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yup 2wd with some form of limited slip and dedicated winter tires will perform much better than people would think. i3.7 is wot quicker but it requires heavy input to get up to it's powerband. The vic can take light to mid throttle for brief sprints, the 3.7 has to be virtually floored.
