Both the Taurus and the Explorers came out in 2011, I had both the 2011 Taurus and 2011 Explorer, now I have a 2012 Explorer and a 2014 Dodge Charger pursuit. That specific body style was introduced in 2011, the Taurus was made in that regard to take over the CVPI's discontinuation in 2010/11. Also, the 3.5l AWD Taurus/Explorers come in non-turbo form too, which is what my 2012 Explorer is.
I knew the two cars were built on the same platform, but the sheer amount of commonality is quite astonishing. Of course, it's a very smart decision which likely made both the FPIS and the FPIU more affordable for law enforcement. Appreciate the effort you're putting into your videos, so please keep them coming :) By the way, I find it so cool that your patrol cars are built with different from civilian models as well as being quick. In my country, we get Avante (called Elantra abroad as I'm aware) and Sonata as patrol cars 😅
You should do a side by side comparison and differences of ALL Police Vehicles lol, that would be nice because nobody on TH-cam has those type of videos. Taurus and Impala, Taurus and Charger Etc etc. Hey you never know 😉
It is a good marketing ploy, it allows agencies to use both vehicles with lots of interchangeability. Regular maintenance is basically the same for both vehicles, which reduces costs for departments. It's a shame that they're discontinuing the sedan, but it is understandable as they don't sell as well, especially with fuel economy being so similar.
I have been looking at buying either a Utility or a Sedan. I currently am in Orange County NY, and have followed your videos since before I relocated back to NY from Puerto Rico. I had the chance to drive the civilian model Explorer, work with a Transit, and with this video I am convinced to buy one. Now to find out which dealer or how to acquire an ex cop car, and find other people in the tri state area, lol. Thank you so much for these videos!
The actual source for the performance info is the Michigan State Police, who test a broad assortment of pursuit & snow tires, motorcycles, and production police pursuit/special service vehicles at their test facility. A few magazines have quoted their specs, but there's a lot more info in the full reports.
Great video!! You are wrong though, on the fastest police car. The fastest police car, is actually the Chevy Caprice 2011 to 2017, with the 6.0L V8. From Chevy, they pack 355 HP. With a few simple bolt ons and a tune, they will easily pick up another 20 to 30 HP.
Hey Bud, nice overview. Where are you located? I currently have a 2013 Sedan Interceptor with the EcoBoost I decided to keep because they are kind of hard to come by compared to the non turbo Sedans. It's also white and has the dual L.E.D. spotlights. I really love these cars. I think the top speed in the EcoBoost is 150 mph. I did 137 in mine and it wanted to keep going faster before I shut it down. The EcoBoost Sedan Interceptor is definitely a little quicker than the 5.7L Hemi Pursuit Package Charger. Great video! I really enjoyed it. Thanks.
The Dodge Charger interceptor with the V-8, tops out at 163 mph. (Michigan State Police official track tests). That's 30 mph faster than the Taurus interceptor. A big difference for agencies operating in a rural or open road environment.
If you go thru the options toggling with the left side 'X' control on your steering wheel and if you go to trip information you can You can select between average estimated fuel consumption actual MPG and the actual odometer data empty and then you can pick the actual digital mile per hour readout
wdym everything on it, because they usually remove everything except that little spot light. Every now and then they might leave the push bar and something random in the back like a control box for miscellaneous lights and such but that's it.
The speedometer limit is just a marketing gimick, I have a 2014 PIS 3.7 I could've sworn it was at 140 as well but I think the dealer changed that after a recent visit because now it's at 160
@@NotoriousCVPI Make sure you get pursuit tires, I bought my taurus from the RCMP and it came with Firehawk Firestone GT Pursuit tires on it, they last longer well worth the price tag.
Does it matter whether if it’s called the Taurus or The Police Interceptor Sedan? They’re just police cars my guy, btw I am a car guy but I just said they’re cars
Hey man, GREAT video... I'm a medical courier in Baltimore and I'm considering buying an Explorer for work. Any words of advice... and have you had to replace the water pump??
Aaaaaaand as you can see here is the 'whacker squad'. failed people that failed at becoming a real cop so they buy and outfit a police unit to become billy-badass .
So close to 12,000 SUBSCRIBERS! Just want to give a HUGE shoutout to you guys, the Interceptor Squad, for all the love and support!
I just found your channel and I’ve been binge watching since 12pm yesterday

My FPIS is the 3.5NA AWD ❤️
My 2013 FPIS is the 3.7 AWD. Love that thing so far.

I would love to, only issue is I would need to find people with those types of vehicles first and ask to compare them.
Notorious CVPI 😞 damn, I have a friend here in the Bronx who has a Black impala if only we werent far away lol. But anyways keep that in mind
@@SCARYFALCON2 New York is a bit of a drive but I do like road trips!

Just got myself a 2016 FPIU with 48k miles on it. All black, tinted windows, and hubcaps. So happy. :)
Another awesome video Notorious! Keep up the great work, looking forward to the next video 👍
Had my FPIS up to 137 Before According to the GPS speedo on my phone.
you forgot to mention the 3.5L V6 AWD, that's the one I have

They need to make new push bars that will cover the front headlights and the side of the front bumpers
They do. Look for Westin push bars. They have the bumper guards and headlight wings for their push bars.
*I've been watching your videos since you had 5800 subscribers xD, btw great videos dude.*
Have you had to change your water pump on your Taurus yet?
doctorhonda111 nope
Where did you go?
Thanks for making this excellent comparison video 👍🏻

My FPIS has a 3.5 non eco boost with AWD
the taurus police package actually gets upgraded suspension and exhaust
What is that turning nob on the seat for that explorer?
Can you do a comparison of the Taurus with a Caprice pls? Great video by the way!
My friend got the Utility for $7,600. Former Texas Highway Patrol.

Cool 😎
They ride on the Same Platform and they are built in the same assembly plant in Chicago, Illinois...interesting video!
It sucks that Ford is discontinuing manufacturing another interceptor sedan.
Congratulations on the subscribers! Could you do another car tour video? and you should add some ambers whelen lights to the car it would look great
You MISSED the 3.5L V6 Non-Turbo AWD optional..... which I have
me too!
I wanted to see you drive the two set cones up do a course. set up a drag and stop.

its 149 actually, so its more or less the same as the ecoboost taurus.
Where yea at NCVPI??
I have a 2015 sedan . Could you tell me why the weight is more than the cvpi ? I mean, the crown was more light...
Nice Racing slicks lol. I have Tires just like that.
Yay
How do you turn on the wig wag in the turn signal on the Fpiu
What is you favorite Police Interceptor
I think the Crown Vic will always be my favorite mainly because it was what started this entire channel, but I really like my FPIS.
Notorious CVPI thanks for the reply man! Good to know. CVPI was originally my favorite but I’m starting to like the explorers now
Quick question: I have Ford Explorer 2014 base model. Can i fit a used console from XLT or Limited models?
Thanks and keep up the good work.
Does the Taurus also have an internal water pump like the explorer?
Yes
Hey Bro! Would the Interceptor Sedan Steel Rims fit my 2015 explorer xlt?
Why does your buddy have visor and mirror lights?
Do a turbo video of the utility. I want see bigger hp on the utility
Question how did you get your dashboard to show your speed in digital? Mine only shows information like mpg or coolant temp etc
Mine came standard like that, I know some models don’t have that option. I don’t think 2013 model year had it, I could be wrong though.
@@NotoriousCVPI mine is 2014
Play with the trip mile option its there in digital speed. I have a 2014 Taurus exactly like Notorious's vehicle.

My 2015s speedometer goes to 160.
I'm sure it can go that fast... If you drop it out of a plane or something.
Thank you for the video, a good comparison.
What is a good price for the fpis? I‘m considering to buy one and to ship it to Germany.
Subbed
Don’t forget about that water pump
How do I buy a nice interceptor utility with everything on it?

lookup your VIN, will be listed as to how it came from the factory.
If I had the money I'd buy an explorer police interceptor to add with my crown vic
3 options for utility eco boost, 3.5L v6 and the 3.7L v6
Daniel Lenane the ecoboost is the 3.5L V6
Yeah but then there’s also just a plain 3.5L v6 I’ve test driven plenty of utility’s and sedans and they are slow af compared to the 3.5 eco and 3.7
Notorious CVPI the 3.5L are Mainly the older body styles like the sedan for 13 you see a lot of 3.5L
i want the utility when it drops more in price
Slap a 5.0 coyote in either one of them. That would be awesome

Pretty much exactly the same?? Seriously, one is a car the other is a SUV. They may be equipped the same , but that's where the similarity ends.
