Cardboard soaks up some of the liquid from the bondo. It’s never recommended. Use something that won’t absorb. This repair won’t last very long. I can still see it plus it’s still rusty. Covering up rust won’t fix it for long. One good bump and it’s coming off.
Unfortunately bondo sticks fairly well to rust but keeps on spreading unless you seal the rust prior to filler application. Can't complain though, makes me a nice chunk of change when these get brought in after a few years to get fixed. Still baffles me why use bondo when there are so many alternatives out there.
@@userdeeznuts97 3m platinum plus is probably my favorite for general filler and I really have been liking the colad fine uv putty. Both are much easier to work with than Bondo and have superior tensile properties. Chameleon 533 would have been perfect for this repair or any other repair where rust damage is extensive like this.
Yeah it woulda been easier to mix your bondo on the bottom of that footbasin you had the cardboard on. Usually bondo pops right off flexible plastics. And I think you would be better suited using a wire brush if it’s a temp job.
Yes it’s temporary, I would’ve taken my time and most likely not finished that day if it were gonna be permanent. I plan on getting it professionally done soon enough
The guy doesn't even know how to mix filler, so it's not that it's temporary, it's lack of knowledge. He's even spraying paint over unpreped paint lol wtf

@@pj_morrison yeah I know how long it takes but its about patience with paint my video is like 30 minutes long because a lot goes into paint and trust me black isnt forgiving you had an easier color lol
Yeah you need a power tool because you shouldn't leave no rust behind and then you have to acid wipe it I do lot of DIYs I'm not a mechanic or body worker but I've done a lot and that is going to come back in about 2 months
Overall nice job finishing it but unfortunately because you didn't cut out all the rust that is just a temporary fix you did, because in less than two years that Rust is going to crack the Bondo and you will have to redo everything all over again the right way to do it is to cut all the rust out and weld a piece of metal in there then Bondo over it.
Yeah Steve's right, hate to say it but with all the misinformation on the internet it really bothers me when how to video creators have no clue how to do what they're trying to teach. But I've learned from experience if you dont grind or similar to bare metal you are actually making the problem worse. Rust is like an infection to the metal and instead of getting rid of the infection you trapped it and the only place it can go is healthy clean metal
@@justinhafner12383 Unfortunately sad but true, in order to prevent rust from spreading you have to either grind it off or cut it out and weld a new piece in problem solved!
I honestly cringed so hard when you was mixing and applying the filler but idk we all have out own ways of doing things. Still looks great tho good job
I8 months isnt that long since The upload, but I suggest you should have cutted out The whole area affected By The rust and weld a sheet of steel to The cutted out area. Then only use The bondo to fill up The uneven surface.
Because it's always easy to take shortcuts and do literally everything wrong. Do not learn from this video, there are TONS of autobody videos on TH-cam and this guy didn't learn how to make a repair before trying to teach it..
I didn't see where the paint was MATCHED. I saw primer, base coat and clear coat. There were large areas that were completely skipped, like where that first glob of bondo(?) came from.
shouldn't use cardboard to mix bondo as cardboard absorbs the material. use glass or plastic instead. overall, this work is sloppy and not a quality repair. however, it does look better than it did originally.

Holy crap probably the worst do-it-yourself I have ever seen. That's rusted right through. Either you repair right or don't do it at all
Nice quick temporary fix. Your videos are awesome
Definitely temporary, but it works👍🏽
Not bad for a temp fix!👍🇺🇸
How long before that chunk of Bondo cracked and fell out?
Damage, Inc. it didn’t, still going strong
In 5 months there will be a bigger hole....sanding with wet sand paper on a huge rust bubble.lol..just saying.

Where did you get all the products from?
How long will it last 🤔? Why is everyone keep saying temporary?
Do those spray cans help blend paint to original color ? Or was it dark grey just cuz it was clear coated yet ?
Looks good, I have a fender dent on my truck I have to fix, never have used bondo before so it'll be new for me, hope I don't screw it up.
