    I had always known my father was a complex man that seemed always need attention. In the over 22 year he was married, he was always running around on my mother. After listening to your volumes of information, I now know he is a narcissist. Although my father is skilled with his hands in things like carpentry, painting, and even mechanical. I learned those skills, but set my life skills from my mother.
    It has helped to keep me from following my father's narcissism. The phrase a narcissist is never really happy , explained my father seldom happy at home unless other were there and he was in the center of attention, the rest of the time he always seemed angry.
    Thank you for your legacy!

    Very good analysis on the aging Narc and the empath that stays… right on point- the empath finds happiness through other means - to the extent she can in the trade off.
    You are being mind screwed by the narcissist until you realize, or really admit , this person never loved you and cannot love anyone .

    My son (42) is threatened if you ask an innocent question; questions that are not deserving of a second thought but he's always sure of an ulterior motive.
    I also dread when he pops over to ask for my opinion on "whatever" -- because inevitably if my response is not what he's expecting 🙄 he goes through a diatribe as to why he disagrees; or why I'm flat wrong. So I started asking him:
    "Do you want my opinion or are you wanting me to agree with whatever you're already thinking about doing?" If he says "I want your OPINION"... I will answer, but it is usually difficult for him to not engage. However, since I placed this boundary, instead of an immediate reaction, he will insert a calmer "Just need you to tell me why". I've discovered a good answer:
    _"The first thought off the top of my head, but you are smart and capable; I'm sure whatever you've considered will turn out great! What are you thinking?"_
    WHATEVER HE SAYS, I TELL HIM "BRILLIANT! MUCH BETTER THAN MY IDEA!"
    I learned to stroke his ego and withhold as much fuel as possible so he gets it somewhere else. Its working.
    Situation diffused.

      It is a generally good parenting advice (for all the mixes of narcissistic and empathic traits in the children) with the exception of last capitalised statement, which would be misleading and unnecessary in the case there was some budding conscience in the individual. I would rather repeat "you are a capable, smart indiv., so whatever you decide will turn out brilliant" :) [and hope it would stimilate reflexion in the case of bad...results]? But if you are 100% sure it is a narcissist it is inconseqential than -to him, but what you say may still make a difference to you, to your integrity-feeling

    So relived at your answer to the question about those questioning if they are the narcissist. I questioned this myself many times over several years. I never asked anyone outright but I would often think about it. I grew up with a narcissistic stepparent who accused me of being a narcissist previously. I heard someone else said this behind my back connected to this. So I sat and ruminated on it for so long. Watching videos online, thinking ‘what if I am the narcissist after all’. I don’t know what I am normal or empathic but at least I know now that narcissists can accuse you of being one as a means of control. Thank you HG!

    • @candycanes7581
      @candycanes7581 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In my opinion, he has to be repetitive.
      He can say the words, but for empathetic people it doesn’t resonate.
      We have difficulty understanding how someone can be void of remorse, love, sympathy and empathy.
      It’s completely alien.
      It took me 4 months just to comprehend this.
      I still struggle sometimes and I’ve been here for 2 and a half years.
      I appreciate that he is candid and frank and drills it into our brains.
      I remind myself all the time that the narcissists brain is wired completely different.
      I only wish I found this information 30 years ago.

    Narc con are you just now catching on to this? This is the narcissistic perspective. Pay attention. You may not win, but your at least garaunteed a draw.
    Question: Would you or any of your friends consider doing a video on cognitive dissonance?
    There is some chinese saying somewhere that says: If you know yourself and don't know your enemy-You will lose Everytime, but if you know yourself AND know your enemy-your at least gauranteed a draw.
    You can beat this -No matter what the odds are.
    Love your videos and your spirit.
    I got a feeling your gonna win your battle, the trouble is-you have to do it yourself.
    No one can do it for you.
    God Bless.

    • @PutinsMommyNeverHuggedHim
      @PutinsMommyNeverHuggedHim 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed. I also dislike the God complex some empaths have. They think their subservience and “love” is a magical potion that will fix another person’s flaws, that it will heal genetic personality disorders. When Empaths find a snake they try to force the fangs off it and don’t understand why the snake would like to keep its fangs and then they’re upset when the snake bites and poisons them. They need to stop obsessing over snakes and leave them alone and worry about protecting themselves from bites

    It seems that no matter how many times you try to explain it to us we just cannot understand malevolence. It’s impossible! It doesn’t make sense. I’ve spent most of my life either in hiding or recovering from these horrific encounters. I haven’t been able to live my life! I may never recover from this last experience, but what about all of them put together. It’s hard to even think of it. One 10 minute conversation can turn into stalking for an entire year, even after warnings from the police. One date and kiss can cause someone to sneak past the front door guard and breakdown a door, and a romantic relationship break-up can lead to private detectives following an every move and tapping every phone call, with midnight knocking on the windows. Even simply giving out a phone number can lead to a vicious and horrifying death threat, if unable to return the call right away. There comes a time when it feels like it’s too dangerous to even look into the eyes of the opposite sex for fear they will hunt you with relentless viciousness. No matter how many death threats nor how much research or understanding one might seek, it cannot be understood why someone would want to terrorize or harm someone else for their own amusement or gain, especially, not you, H.G. It makes me cry. I just don’t want you to be one of them.

    • @girlinterrupted9145
      @girlinterrupted9145 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Wow , that sounds like a psychopath- not sure a narcissist would go to that extreme unless they invested a “ lot” of time in you already . They typically find another source if they can’t get fairly immediate gratification or control. These people typically move their victims in fairly quickly or move on.

    Interesting, you speak of feeling weak or perhaps you meant your Perception is that you might look weak- ( something you said your mother told you- she must have had quite the influence for you to believe what she said and perhaps you grew to regard your father as weak, especially if he allowed her to control him and showed his emotions ) but in my observation, it seems you frantically try to gain control because weakness could lead to feeling vulnerable , which you absolutely cannot have . This does not mean that you cannot feel, but rather, you do not want to ; hence, the need for control, in my opinion, or that could be a question . Again, we see the narcissist seeking pleasure and avoiding pain. It leads me to think of the wounded little boy inside .
