About the Pictochat error is actually a hidden firmware version access. A feature that, once you choose a room, by retiring the cartridge, depending of the color of the screen, it indicates the console firmware.
Just wanted to say thanks to everyone that reminded me I haven't done DS Errors on my streams :D Totally forgot about this little gem What other console would you like to see next?
Just a little advice about the game card error: This r4 card have no bios inside or the r4 card was corrupted. This error is not from any ds included. Only the r4 cards
really? aw I didn't know that, I thought that his card was corrupted or something because it all made sense to me... I thought that is why it displayed that error icon, because the needed data was not readable or something like that. My bad 😬
I missed these error videos. I absolutely love them for some reason Reading into errors and stuff, and knowing what causes them makes me happy Well, both that and terrified. Still hate the BSoD lol
Same, something about them is so interesting. I also for some reason love the errors that occur when the console has a serious problem or the console is killed
I got the sound of death once when I was bored playing a gba game on my ds so I decided to see if something funny would happen if I wiggled the cartridge. The sound started to appear, leaving the game with no sound, and a few seconds later, the game also froze
I've got some things to say - the SD card and outdated firmware errors happen only with R4 cards and they are errors coded in the cartridge itself, not in the console. - The outdated firmware error happens not because something is broken in the cartridge's files, but because the R4 cards have an expiration date. After reaching it, that error will appear every time you try to use it, but that can be fixed just by changing the console's date to any time before that, so there's no corrupt system files or anything broken in this error - 0:49 The DS doesn't have any SD card slot, so I'm guessing we are going back to R4 cards. The first example shown shows the normal boot up and then the error happens, which I assume that console had the auto-play feature activated (that feature launches the game without going through the menu or pressing any button, only showing the classic intro of the console before launching the game, which is basically what happened here) so that error doesn't affect the console itself in any way. - 5:50 i can understand showing some DSi errors because some of the system's UI and errors match the DS, but why the 3DS
@@neevko267at least for my flashcart, redownloading the firmware seems to fix it. not sure how or why they update the expiration date while changing nothing else including the version number.
Fun fact : The sound of a GBA or DS crashing is actually the console reading the game as audio because after minutes later, becaus the games back then used samples to make the music in the game, it actually plays those samples
Dsi didn't expect this video. P.S. the title should say DS/DSi/3DS also some errors are from flash carts which arent technically originating from the ds but from the cartridge/game.
Most of these errors seems to be errors that are from random R4 cards, not with the console itself. Ex. The DS Lite didn't even have an SD card slot, so an SD/TF card error would've been... strange... to say the least. The error at 1:40 is likely an R4 Time Bomb. Some R4 cards have time bombs that render the cartridge useless if the console's date goes beyond a certain range (in order to make money on more R4 cards). R4 Cards with a bomberman icon are well known time bomb carts.
I'm not sure if "the sound of death" happens anywhere outside gba mode. As far as I know, it occurs when you take out the cartridge while the game is playing, and the ds is still trying to read data, so it ends up sending out garbage.
It does that when you get to most of the ratings screens in Rhythm Tengoku/Rhythm Heaven Silver's debug menu due to a missing code error. It is definitely more of a GBA thing. Though, I guess, to be fair, that does inherently make it a DS thing too, since the DS doesn't prevent it from happening with its GBA native compatibility.
Yeah I'm very familiar with this sound and it's always occurred when I accidentally moved or jostled the console in a way that loosens the GBA cartridge even slightly.
The firmware expired error is actually from the r4 cards. For some reason, you have to dial the DS back to the year 2000 to get proper functionality of the card.
For the 3DS errors video, the "black screen" one actually does have fixes. The most common one is taking the SD card out, but that can mess up the slot after a while
Can also do it on some emulators too, I know mGBA has the ability to simulate removing the cartridge. Now I don't know why you would want to do that, but you can.
Another easy freeze, well at least for me when using a DS, either just go on the home menu then eject the cartridge, or load the game and take the cartridge out when the game is about to boot
3:55 This error can also be done on the dsi by putting the memory pit on an SD with nothing to boot but simply turning off and removing the SD fixes it
2:31 - I can easily do that too, it's caused by a GBA cartridge being damaged, but readable, or if its jolted, its not just a DS error, the GBA also has the error, and it'd also more of a crash than an error
I was playing my ds lite as a kid once and got mad at the game and threw the whole machine as hard as i could on a hardwood floor and now to this day my top screen is permanently red but still playable
The firmware error actually is cartridge based, if you revert back your nds date and time of a few years it will work. I think it's caused by the r4 cartridge firmware being obsolete, not at all by the console.
I recently learned that sometimes the noises and colored screens are to tell you what kind of error is (especially with the hardware errors) so they're easier to detect. I wonder if some of these noises are for that too PS: No offense but I absolutely hate you for that ending. I actually got jumpscared by the damn lobster
Morbid fact: In the files of Mario Kart DS I found an error message that states "This Game Card has been damaged and cannot be used" idk how you would get it since, if the card was actually damaged, the DS wouldn't have been able to read it in the first place
@@froppytheoneondiscord It's a joke by the fnf fans when something is bad and they say it's fire when it's really *Microwave noise* through out the whole song
You missed one: "System settings have been lost" It's kind of like the GameCube error but it's almost impossible to achieve normally. You can get it by using a hex editor and changing some stuff around. It basically asks you to calibrate the touch screen, fix the lost setting, and set up the DS as normal. However, there are only two documented instances on the internet and both were stuck in a loop of calibrating the touch screen.
As some would have said here, the "Firmware Expired" on R4 cards is a case of planned obsolescence. They are made like that, so once a certain date comes by on whichever DS system you use it on, be it the first DS right up to a 2DSXL/New 3DSXL, that will come up. It can work just fine still (like with one i got some years ago), just set the time back to a date before that happens, and it works fine. Nasty little tactic that timebomb is, just to make you buy more. But you don't need to, as stated it will function just fine as long as you set the date back enough.
The sound of death is actually just a buffer overload that can sometimes happen when a GBA cartridge is misread and the visuals are read as audio files, which is why the sound is different for every game.
The console sound crash happens quite commonly if you play version 1 of super mario 64 DS. No clue why but the same thing happens if you have the super waluigi 64 DS romhack, it will sometimes make that noise.
you're missing the Bootrom Errors, which as far as I know, the DSi displays nothing but an error code on a black screen, for example 0000FEFE correlates to the bootloader being corrupted or modified. The 3DS displays a blue screen with "Bootrom 8046" followed by some info in hexadecimal. Anyways, it means the bootloader of the 3DS is corrupt or you're performing a hardmod which during NAND dumping and writing this screen displays.
Game cartridge errors can be cartridge specific! I've seen ones for Kirby Super Star Ultra & for Kirby Squeak Squad, though I haven't seen them documented anywhere, which is a shame.

Pictochat one can be more colors. If you have firmware v1 its black, v2 is a navy blue, green is v3, yellow is v4, pink is v5, green and pink seem to be the most common although mine does blue
You forgot when a game can't launch on NDSI XL, it shows a black screen saying something like "An error has occurred. Power off the console and try again"
The broken sound can be replaced so easily all you have to do is take the game boy game out after it shows the game boy logo and boom so it’s level/difficulty is super easy
The pink screen of death kept happened on my ds lite, then it stopped working entirely a month later. It wasn't the one on pictochat, It just kept happening when I booted up games and on pictochat, and it would completely freeze up and the sound that was playong would loop.
There's a glitch in super scribblenauts where if you spawn mini tornados and put them inside each other until you reach the limit, you can load the level and then jump into the tornadoes. That used to crash my system.
Nice video, but some of these are obviously not official as per the other comments state. It may also pay to double check some of the "caused by" as the Nintendo DS doesn't have a CMOS battery. AFAIK the RTC was powered by the console battery itself. If flat battery = clock reset.
