    I have never seen the chain and binder method to compress the tire and force the side walls / bead to contact the rim. That is a great idea. Mostly I have seen people use a flammable fluid to get the tire to rapidly inflate enough to give the air a chance to then fill it. Thanks for showing this.

      You can also use a ratchet straps.

      It's a Bias Tire trick
      Sometimes works on Radial Tires. Ratchet strap is less dangerous

    Never seen a chain used before but in your first couple of tries it was so close, I jam the tire up under a trailer when I do it helps keep it from moving and gives you a nice opening to stick that cheetah tank into the inside of the tire which I believe is your problem on first couple of tries. Try shoving that tip in on the opposite side of the valve stem and giving it a good hit usually always works for me

    A tub of Murphy's tire mounting compound is worth owning. It's non-corrosive and works very, very well. I wish I'd known about it years ago.

    Milton 731 M style recapper plug screws onto valve stem . Remove valve core , this tool allows a full force of air to enter tire when directly attaching an air line coupler to the recapper . Available at most auto parts stores .

    I use a small ratchet strap. It will pull down a little more even and is easier to keep in place but be careful when releasing strap because it can get you.

    On the really heavy tires put (3) 2x4 block around the edge of the tire close to the tread when inflating the tire. 1/3 apart from each other.This help a lot when inflating the heavy tire.

    you made a great tool. that's a good-looking blaster. it may need a cone welded on it. and the gate valve is a little close to the tank. stand the tire upright. lube tire with paste on rim and tire bead with brush. blast the tire on the mounting side. stick the blaster in the bead area and slap the valve open abruptly. I will make a video. usually the tire will not take air with a blast because it is bent in one spot. solid lube or paste lube is more effective on both surfaces because it acts like contact cement.

      Thanks for the compliment. I wish you were here to try that super stiff tire in the freezing cold that you were telling me everything I did wrong, I don't do tires very often but I have done enough to know that one was different, and to do it so cold. The tire man on my day job put that on my truck real cheap, He keeps me in usable tires for the local work I do. Before, when I was OTR I always bought new tires and never had any trouble changing them. About the valve stem hole, a brush wheel might be ok if you got one handy, but it will rust again under the surface if you don't get ALL THE RUST off, you probably know more about tires than me, that doesn't take so much, but I have been working with metal for 40 years, I'm not just a dumb truck driver, I was a professional car mechanic, and a welder at a pipe shop, the grinder and silicone is different but not wrong.

    sometimes theres a lot of rust inside the rim i got that problem before i just use a wire brush to clean it and it will inflate easily.

  • @thomasnothstine7493
    @thomasnothstine7493 ปีที่แล้ว

    No need for the chain and binder. Make sure the rim is clean/smooth along both beads. If it's a tight fit, the tire will inflate, otherwise use the "cheetah" but place the tire on a 5 gallon bucket so that the bottom bead is resting in the rim that way the "cheetah' will work much better to inlfate the tire - and have air hooked up to the valve stem when you blast it. If you can't blast a shot of forced air into the tire, get some tire-mounting compound. I've been doing big truck tires and heavy-equipment tires for almost 20 years - never once resorted to a chain and binder.

    Does the tire explosion off the rim risk only occur with 2 piece rim assemblies and not the solid single piece / welded ones?

    • @57bagre
      @57bagre  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The split rim wheel with the inner tube is the one that is more likely to explode if the locking ring is not installed properly or is damaged the tubeless type tire is much safer but there is always a possibility If there is something wrong with the tire or the wheel

    • @aaronholmes8114
      @aaronholmes8114 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      littlewingpsc27 you should always pump air in to split rims in a cage they are very dangerous

    • @roberttill3787
      @roberttill3787 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@aaronholmes8114 , in my years experience of split rims it is the high pressure and a badly seated ring that will jump a rim. The best method is inch the tyre up to the rings, by slow careful inflation, and to tap the rings with a club hammer before fully inflating. This seats the assembly. This will happen at far less than 10 PSI, and done carefully is safe. The dangerous part is adding more air to the assembly. It is at this point the tyre needs to be placed in a saftey restraint in case the assembly fails. Most failures are caused by not seating the rings before adding high pressure through lack of knowledge.

    Good job being persistent. Another way is to just turn the tire over with a 5 gallon bucket under the wheel to support it off the ground. Then use your bead blaster the same way. By working from the other side on the other bead, it will seat 95% of the time. If it still doesn't work, your chain and binders are still a good idea.

    done this a few times at work on our trailer tires, so far it's worked every time. they're normal sized tires though so we get away with just using a ratchet strap, usually gotta remove the valve core because it restricts air flow enough that the tire wont seat with it in.

      Thanks, some people like to spray something flammable in the tire and light it, I've done that once or twice, but your timing has to be right or it won't work, if all else fails, you can try the chain or strap and spray together.
