Graeme, only thing I can suggest. You're solar panel on the top of the roof rack .
I have seen a couple of people who have placed them under the roof rack on a sliding draw system so when they pull up they just slide the solar panels out . They sit just underneath the roof rack , mounted to the roof rack . They are a little more protected, and they can use the full roof rack. I know the solar panel will not be working properly, but I when they are travelling along the alternator keeps their batteries changing.
As far as the rest well I quess that's up to each individual
    Good luck Graeme

Awesome build so far and very happy for you! Future mods: Front/Rear lockers, rear winch, snorkel, extended fuel capacity. I'm 50/50 on a rooftop tent... I think you're ground swag is more efficient (lower center of gravity/wind resistance while driving). And, comms... I see one antenna, but, I believe you're a HAM radio operator, so I'd get VHF/UHF at least installed, and I also like my Garmin inReach for Satellite communication outside of cell phone reception. The best mod would be a full calendar of use, now go get into it and enjoy it! Cheers from Arizona. Pete - KI7LIL

It's an impressive rig, looks comfy too!! Quality 12v with long battery life makes all the difference, and a great way to have (lazy?) convenience while saving power is to put a motion sensor on the canopy LEDs. Those LED bars will pull power, so I like a motion sensor with a timer on the living (passenger) side and a simple door switch on the storage side. Good to see it out on the tracks and getting (a little) dirty!

Another improvement is to look at getting the spring rate redone on the hbmc system to get the hight back as that front bar and winch dropped it a lot and these big girls are animals when they have at least a extra 40- 50mm clearance underneath

Air compressor and a kangaroo jack/high lift jack, I know some of the others carry them on 4wd247 but Graham you do allot of solo missions and should carry some of those things yourself or accompany mounts for them, if your planning on towing, how about a towpro /throttle controller aswell? Only other suggestion would be some rock sliders and possibly a rear winch for the banter, some of the recent videos there's been some of the boys snapping winch ropes, could earn you a few beers pulling them out... 😜☺️ All the best man, wonderful rig you've built..

  • @MacShaulayShaulkin

Graham, Love the y62 build build, ever since I drove one as a rental car here in the states I've wanted one. You've gone full tourer so I'd swap out that swag for an aluminum hard shell roof top tent on the canopy! I'd also get your charging quadrant organized with fixed-in-place chargers so they dont bounce around or disconnect; possibly shadow-box that big drawer? I'd also get your core recovery kit into the back seat so it's always accessible in case a panel or door is pinched and you can't get into it. You've got enough room in the cab, a small fridge accessible from the driver seat could make those long stretches on the move even easier.
Hope to see you beating up the big girl on some tough tracks soon!

Never see it, going to do it on my GU IV. Might not suit the taste but a MQ decal for the side... makes the car a little different from every other build. Love you Graham

Honestly I'm jealous Graham. I've been wanted to go back to black point for some time because I haven't been there for years, and loved it.

    Hey Graham,
You should use a stretcher for your swag. Makes life so easy getting in and out. 😉

I'd take the back seat out and set up one side with easy access to 1st aid, fire extinguisher, torch and stuff you grab or need easy access to like jakets or towels. The other side for charging or in car fridge or storage.

I knew a fella who drove a series one landrover from Vic to the NT with a full size kero fridge in the back... He felt it was important to have a cold beer 🍺

I found it handy on my old rig to have a basic on board compressor. I secured it in in the canopy and 2 ran extension lines with one outlet on the roo bar and the other on the tow bar. Then to air up I’d just click on one of those spiral hoses that could stretch out to each of the tyres. I preferred that to having to get out a bunch of stuff each time to air up.
Also a little tap to wash your hands after tucking into your bacon and eggs 😂 but I assume you’ve already got that
    Cheers G
