    Fun Fact: The movie was being filmed as the author of the comics Bryan Lee O'malley was still finishing up the story for the final comics, he originally planned for Scott to end up with Knives even after having saved Ramona but then decided to change it to him and Ramona ending up together, aswell as fighting Nega Scott and there being a bigger presence of him throughout the movie/comic

    • @IAmNeomic
      @IAmNeomic 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      The movie originally filmed Scott ending up with Knives based on his initial plan as well, but it didn't test well with audiences, so they did reshoots and changed it to Ramona, and it tested much better.

    • @Ambaryerno
      @Ambaryerno 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      IIRC O'Malley's plan was always for Scott and Ramona to end together, it was just the filmmakers didn't know that so that's why the film leaned more into developing their relationship.

    What people don't realize about Nega Scott the first time they watch the movie is that he's not an evil version of Scott. He's the complete opposite because Scott is shown to be a horrible person.

    • @Ambaryerno
      @Ambaryerno 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +40

      Only because about 80% of Scott's background and character development got cut from the film.
      Scott's not a BAD person. His biggest flaw is he's afraid of conflict and facing difficult decisions. He doesn't want to hurt people, so waffles on things like breakups, which just ends up making it worse. On top of all of this, Gideon was directly manipulating him - including outright altering his memory - throughout the story. And Negascott isn't his opposite. He's the personification of Scott's flaws and darker side. By accepting/befriending Negascott (book/comic respectively) it's Scott acknowledging his problems and finally taking responsibility for them. That's why after Scott is able to put his life in order and make amends with the people he hurt (especially Kim and Knives).
      The key to understanding the story is: ALWAYS LISTEN TO WALLACE. Wallace is the barometer for how you should be feeling about Scott in any given moment. Wallace is always honest with Scott, even if it's brutal honesty, and he's always RIGHT. So when Wallace is on Scott's side (IE how much Wallace despises Envy) that's a very important clue.

    • @LordVolkov
      @LordVolkov 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      Scott calls him a great guy, because Nega Scott is everything Scott isn't 🤣🤣🤣

    • @kayearcher8407
      @kayearcher8407 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@Ambaryerno I dunno, how he treated Kim and how he beat her boyfriend up kinda says differently. His aloofness covers how much of a dick he is and though the movie softened him, opening it with 'he's dating a high schooler' sets the idea that you shouldn't like him pretty firmly in place. So when he fights and comes to terms with Nega-Scott (who he can't win against) it's more him ACCEPTING that he's been an asshole to quite a few people in his life and then making a change as opposed to making peace as he does in the movie. He has to see himself as the piece of shit first before he can begin to change it. The movie is fine and does about a good a job as it can having been made before the story was completed, but I think the metaphors in the comic work far better to illustrate the point, and the fact that Gideon has his own 'evil' exes who are just women who didn't like him anymore paints him as something Scott could easily become if it weren't for him changing.

    • @Ambaryerno
      @Ambaryerno 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      @@kayearcher8407 It's was pretty much stated that Scott's self-serving memory of "saving" Kim from an abusive boyfriend or whatever was the result of Gideon directly altering his memory. We also saw Scott being affected by the Glow by that point in the book, as well to reinforce it.
      And acceptance and making peace with yourself pretty much go hand-in-hand. Consider the difference in the situations between Scott and Ramona:
      Scott is kind of oblivious to the hurt he unintentionally causes. He needs to accept that as a first step to making things right. Ramona, however, ALREADY acknowledges that she's not been a very good person (again, as with Scott I don't think she's necessarily a BAD person, per se, but she still hurt a lot of people because of her own carelessness about others' feelings). However, it's because she can't make peace with herself that she's stuck in a cycle of painful relationships. She feels that the pain is going to be inevitable and self-sabotages herself. It's also part of what Gideon uses to trap her in her own head with the Glow, and allows him to control her.
      Both Scott and Ramona needed to make peace with what they'd done in the past to actually be able to move on: Scott doing so when he accepted Negascott allowed him to avoid the cycle of self-loathing that Ramona trapped herself in altogether. Ramona finally learning that just because she hurt people in the past doesn't mean she doesn't deserve a chance to be happy herself is vital to her breaking free from Gideon's control of her for good.
      And it's not so much the filmmakers not knowing how the book was going to end that undermines the story's message, but simply just how complicated all of these layers of their growth are, and not being able to fit it into a 2 hour runtime. Remember, as important as the Glow is in the book as early as the first volume, it's pretty much dropped in the adaptation in favor of Gideon more literally controlling her.
      Honestly, this is a story that would probably be best served in a series format than as a movie, but from what O'Malley said whil the Anime was in development it doesn't sound like we're going to see another straight adaptation any time soon.

    Glad you liked it so much! Idk what it is but I just really love everything about it...
    Scott Pilgrim started off as a graphic novel, then the movie got made, then a game, and last year there was even an animated series released on Netflix, so enough Scott Pilgrim content to check out!
    The writer got inspiration from games and the Toronto indy rock scene so they both have a big part in the movie.
    The Brie Larson song is on Spotify! Total banger!
    The artist Beck (from songs like Loser and Wow) helped a lot with the music in the movie.

    In fact, the DVD of this movie has a Trivia Subtitle option that tells you all the little details.
    One of my faves is the way Scott just materializes a hat out of nowhere whenever anybody mentions his hair.

    This movie is based off a comic book that has a video game style aesthetic. There is an alternate cut of the ending where he ends up with Knives. There are no sequels, but there is a Netflix cartoon (Scott Pilgrim Takes Off) that only just came out recently, and does an alternate telling of the story, where something goes wrong which causes the story to be different, and is told from Ramona's perspective (it is voiced by the same cast as this movie.

    1. Based on a 6-part graphic novel series. Very fun. Has a different ending and many differences, so the movie gets to stand alone a bit.
    2. Has a Netflix animated series! Also another story. Recommend reading the comic first.
    3. The cast still has an email group that they will occasionally use. This caused them to all get back together to voice the animated series.

I can relate that it's comic books and 8-bit gaming is not for everyone, but regardless I think it has one of best filming techniques, the screen cuts, the camera, the lighting, the visuals - all top-notch stuff.

    This movie is so great. The way everything is cut and edited makes it feel like both a comic book and an anime. It has so much energy to it. Also a couple fun facts. 1st, the movie is absolutely slammed with Easter eggs. If you pay close attention, you'll see numbers throughout the movie counting up to 7, representing the ex Scott is about to fight. You'll also see X's throughout the movie. There's so much more that makes this movie one of the most rewatchable movies because every time you'll see a new thing. Another thing this movie was being made before the last volume of the graphic novel was released, so Edgar Wright had to go along with notes the author had but also ended up influencing the end of the graphic novel. Lastly, originally, Scott was supposed to end up with Knives in the end, but it had bad reception during the test screening, so they changed that part to Scott and Ramona staying together

    As for tying shoes... when you make the 2nd knot the same way it actually makes the knot prone to coming loose, but... if you tie the 2nd knot in the opposite direction the knot cannot come loose. Opposite means if normally you take the right side and flip it over and under, the opposite is you do that with the left side instead. Since it's harder to do it backwards, do the backwards first and do the 2nd knot your normal way and it's easier. Now you've learned secret depths of shoe tying. You are now legendary.
