    Thanks, I have this problem on my 07 Grand Marquis. Finally got to close the trunk today, and then it gave the trunk ajar warning. Will buy the replacement part at RockAuto. Thanks for the video!

    Definitely not Overkill that's what you should do actually, marking the outline of any latch assembly that is open like that and doesn't have a fixed position is very smart

    Right on Dub-Dandy,
    $60 for the replacement, ouch.
    I wonder if the old one can be rebuilt?

      I gave it a cursory glance but didn't dig into the old one. I would say "everything is fixable" if you have the tools and know-how. But my first impression is this isn't an easy DIY rebuild. If I take the time to tear into the old one at some point maybe I'll revise my opinion

      Give it the old "Shower Head" treatment. Lol

    i bought new one to replace it, after i did, it works the opposite, when it the trunk is closed it shows trunk open on the dash, if it is opened it shows closed and ok, also the lamp inside the trunk works only if it is closed.

      sounds like something in the wiring is flipped - may not be anything you did... may have come from the factory backwards. I'd return it for another and see what happens

    What fell out of the key connection at 1:40? I hope it wasn't important.

    Could a failing latch cause slight up and down movement with the trunk lid? It opens/closes perfectly fine but when I hit large pot holes I get banging noise from the lid. I am also missing what I believe are the bump stops for the trunk lid. Not sure if it's the latch causing the lid to move or the missing bump stops.

    • @WJHandyDad
      @WJHandyDad  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm sure it could - or loose bolts holding the latch on

      @@WJHandyDad thank you, I will try to locate some bump stops and if that doesn't solve the problem then the latch it is.

    I have an '01 Grand Marquis trunk won't open. The key will turn, but no joy. Locksmith says the line from the lock to the latch came off or broke. He called it a tailpiece. The trunk button on the driver's door won't work. I've checked every fuse in the compartment & the relay box. All seem fine. He told me besides tearing out the tail light, unbolting the back seat or having the relay energized might work. If all the fuses are fine, I don't know if that would work. Can anyone offer an easier way to open or get in wo tearing the car apart? Could going in the door & getting to that trunk line be a possible fix? I have very basic tools, a few I can borrow. Any help is appreciated.
