Thanks very much for sharing via TH-cam. I am a 65 year old female and just purchased a 2003 Honda Civic LX 2 door coupe three days ago. The trunk cable inside vehicles opens the trunk but I kept working the trunk to stay closed and locked. The Honda dealer wanted three hundred plus dollars to change the gas/trunk cable assembly. Research using on TH-cam and finding this video gave me insight as to what to try first on my very own. Sharing blessings worldwide is what helps make the world go around. Smiles

@@BigAl-1 It was so easy opening my trunk and I barely touched the gasoline cover cable. I then removed the clip attached on the inner side of the gasoline cover. Now I only have to press the outer outside edge of my gasoline cover to get gas. The previous owner had two keys to unlock my gasoline cap. Thanks for reaching out to me. Much love for people to share their God-given talents, skills, blessings, and love. Smiles

I think that plastic edge liner pops off and once that little piece is off you can actually directly access the screws through an opening inside that trunk wall in front of that catch so you don’t have to struggle with the tight space and a socket wrench. At least that is how it is on my old Camry.
    Great video. Thanks.

For those who got a Nissan Sentra, if the plastic parts of the trunk is ripped from where it latches, do yourself a favor and tear that plastic off. It’s gonna do some damage to your interior, but I’d rather have a trunk that closes. And it closed so that’s what I did. Improvise and see what you guys can do.

I recommend taking out the light in your trunk, so it doesn’t drain your battery. You could keep a lantern or flashlight back there for when you need a light.

My 2012 grand caravan won’t latch close. It has a power lift gate that will go up but won’t come down either. Just purchased the van used and it didn’t work then either. The striker doesn’t look out of alignment.

It's going to vary based on the year and model of your car. The ones in that video looked like ~10-12mm at first glance, if you post your year & model it might be possible to look it up online.

@@BigAlRepairs I'll say it in a way that isn't rude. There's honestly no need to block your plate at all. Yes, there are people who could and probably will hack into some database that could bring up your info. But, what about when your driving down the road? Do you block your plates from all the thousands of people you do drive by that can also get your info as well? Also, there's nothing wrong with blocking your plate either. Especially if your trying to stay somewhat private as to not let your viewers know what state you live in. That's about the only thing I could see here that would make sense. Lastly, just do like what Chris Fix does. He covers his with paper or takes them off all together. Still a good video though, big al!

@@BigAlRepairs I pulled him a MacGyver I was able to reach up in between the panels of the lid latch I felt a cable in there and at the end of it was an eye hole and then just kept feeling around and eventually there was a little slot crevice with just the rounded portion of a spring hook sticking up I had to grab another hooked tool with an eye hook on it to stretch it enough to be able to reach it good enough after it been stretched I could reach it with my fingers and pull the hook of the spring up to the eye hole connector and that fixed it. I can't believe I even did that I was thinking I looked like an idiot even trying to do what I was doing but it worked. I couldn't see anything I had to do all of that blindly.
