    So the main thing I would have added to this video, in retrospect, is something about INPUT LAG and RESPONSE TIME for gaming.
    Basically, you want both to be as low as possible -- less than 30ms is good, less than 15ms is ideal.
    Make sure to use your TV's Gaming Mode (most have it now) while gaming to turn off in-TV image processing and minimize input lag!

      Dolby Vision is the new hd dvd and/or oled burn in battle; its getting better but has a ways to go. It will be interesting to see how they will be able to get closer to 7 or 10k nits to actually produce far better results than active hdr. Theres also hlg if you use cable for 4k.

      @@mwtrolle Are you in the UK. I looked for your TV and found it's equivalent to 899 pounds. A good update on 4K TV's from 43" to 55" sizes is they only cost $200 to $300 now in the US, but seen their about $400 on Amazon UK. I've been over there quite a few times over the years to UK and EU zone finding clothing and electronics were 2X prices often times than in the US. Sorry mate, I guess you guys get gauged or it's just a more expensive economy where people are often paid more than Americans. The 43" I ordered today on FingerHut is $250 with free shipping using code, but the 75" sizes do still run around $2000 or more. Most people have 43" to 55" sizes now and there is much excess inventory so prices have been plummeting on them the past year. I seen a 43" HDTV at Walmart right after Christmas for a rock bottom $178, but I didn't have the money get it then. All our HDTV sellers have so much inventory sitting around and most people already have them so demand is very low now with many wanting to buy OLED which is still $1500 or more for a 43" OLED. Their still too expensive and inventory is kept artificially low to consistently maintain their very high price the past 4 years. I don't understand why OLED hasn't become the norm for it's the next gen sort of TV and monitor technology, but it's price point is still high for inventory is small to nonexistent still yet though there are just the same 2 OLED models on display the past 4 years up to this day in our stores you can order where no OLED inventory is on hand to this day. OLED is so amazing and been around a good 4 years, but the market isn't being supplied so prices can drop enough consumers who've been watching an LCD HDTV for several years can upgrade to a new TV. I'll be OK with my new LCD model for a few years, but can't get over how amazingly magical OLED screens look. 75" is where one whole wall is your personal theater screen!!!

      not so much anymore, lots of people on redit own LGs latest OLED TV and use them for couch gaming with PCs and gaming in general and no issues have come up. Ive never heard of Burn in being a problem with OLED, now image retention is a different story which isn't the same, but the latest models have cycles to make sure it doesn't happen unless you are playing 24/7

    Should be careful with the HDR stuff. Almost every 2016 model 4K TV advertises HDR support, but while many cheaper ones will accept an HDR signal, they don't have a 10-bit panel or meet the specifications for HDR10 or Dolby Vision - which basically means they can't display HDR. HDR is very confusing in its advertising and terminology, and is used as a catch-all to mean many different things. People should really go to some stores and look at display model TVs playing HDR video to know what they're getting.

    If you have discrete home theater...5.1, 5.2, 7.1, 7.2., etc. and you want to run all the devices through a receiver, you'll want a 4K receiver that accepts both HDR formats. I got the Denon 4K AVR S930H.

    My first HD TV was a Vizio 32". At the time the over the air free local signals haven't gone digital yet. I had DirecTV, was only like 5 or 6 HD channels at the time. Over the next year or so, I was ready. As the networks went digital, and cable channels went HD. I loved it. But 32" was now to small. Went and got a 47" Vizio. Watched it, loved it for a year or two. Then got curious about the 3D TV's. Going to the theaters, watching new movies in this new 3D tech, (Avatar, among others). Wanted that type of experience at home. The 47" Vizio had some pixilation problems after less than two years. Dark spots, was disappointing. So my next was an LG 55" full 1080p HD, 3D Cinema TV. The 3D Blu Rays are great, the 3D ppv from DirecTV was great. As good or better than the 3D movies in the theaters. But the up convert of regular programming to 3D wasn't so good. I don't watch as much 3D nowadays, but the LG TV is still kicking ass after, eh, bout 5 yrs or so. So I did just purchase an LG 55" 4K, UHD, HDR, TV. I've spent the last couple months researching, comparing, and it looked like my best option. It'll be delivered in a day or two. All I can hope is that it's as impressive and as durable as my other LG. I'll always have it for a backup. Sorry so long.

    I bought a 65 inch 4k LG OLED C6 for just under $3k. Not cheap by any means but still not bad considering it's a freaking OLED and was going for almost double the price not too long ago. 4k movies and the PS4 Pro look amazing on it though.

    • @03chrisv
      @03chrisv 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      noventay4 No, most PS4 games with a pro patch run at 1440p or 1800p upscaled to 4k, though some even run at native 4k like NBA 2k17. Due to the checkerboard upscaling games look almost as good as native 4k.

      NUCK CHORRIS I may consider taking a photo of uncharted 4 or battlefield 1, post it on the internet, and see if you can point out any obvious jaggies, because I cant. Uncharted 4 is only being rendered at 1440p before being upscaled and it looks excellent.
      And the whole UHD vs 4k thing, they're almost the same thing, only difference is that 4k is SLIGHTLY wider, but it's basically semantics to me. Go troll somewhere else, and for the record I also own a Xbox One S and a gaming rig, being a console fanboy is stupid and childish. I mean I own a fucking 65 inch OLED, a tv many people cant afford, what makes you think I'd restrict myself to one gaming platform? Again go troll somewhere else.
      By the way a KU7000 isn't that great of a 4k tv, it can't even display HDR correctly and lacks true 10 bit color, it can only read the Metadata for it, not to mention the panel has a less than ideal pixel structure which can make an image either look too soft or slightly jaggy. Maybe the PS4 Pro doesn't look too impressive to you due to the tv it's hooked up to. Try a Samsung KS8000, or better yet a LG OLEDC6, after you've done that then you can come back and talk shit.

    Based on the reviews both on Amazon and LG's website, the opinions of those in the comment section trashing the LG he bought and berating him for his choice are by FAR the minority opinion based on those who have actually bought and used the TV vs. obsessing over specs on paper. I can't stand snobby elitists. I mean, go out and buy whatever you want, but stop belittling others and their choices just because they like something that isn't _your_ cup of tea, but apparently is for most consumers.

      The thing is....if you're used to using a scooter, every car seems like a great upgrade. Going from HDTV to a 4KTV will seem great irregardless of which one if its not a cheap knock-off manufacturer you've never heard of like VisiPlusPro. That doesn't mean a BMW and Hyundais are equivalent. It's still reasonable to access the differences between 4K TVs when upgrading from HDTV the same way it might be reasonable to access the difference between cars when upgrading from a scooter. Many of these people with great reviews on Amazon are reviewing it well because they don't know any better. It's just much better than their HDTV so they are happy. What they don't realize is it could have been another notch of improvement once more but ignorance is bliss.

    As a consumer, here are my questions about any new tv: Does the tv have a good, sharp picture? Is the tv going to last long enough to justify the cost? Is it easy enough to operate without the need for me to take a continuing ed class at a local college to sort out the details of the tv's features and benefits? Can I just turn it on and watch it after a brief and uncomplicated setup? That's what most people want to know. All the tech jargon is great, but the video is not appropriately titled for its depth of the review.

    Imo the most important aspect:
    Is the TV big enough?
    Depending on your viewing position it might very well be that with a 50" TV 4K is a waste.
    This is something many people overlook - but you can very easily be in a range where it is physically impossible to tell the difference between 4K and good old 1080p - and yes, even with a 65" that is still quite a real scenario.

    • @ravenoftheredsky
      @ravenoftheredsky 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      ABaumstumpf exactly. It irked me that Paul wants us to buy as big as possible. More often than not, 50" is well enough. For this high of a resolution, it's only justifiable to have a large screen... But like you said, the viewing position may not allow for comfortable viewing with TOO large of a screen.

    I see a lot of comments here with poor and misguided opinions. There most certainly is a lot of 4k content out right now which you can stream from netflix and other services but there is also 4k UHD Blu-Rays which look astounding. Another point I would like to make is that even though you might not be viewing purely 4k footage right now, you may be in the future and 4k panels are still the best looking panels we have today and it NEVER hurts to future proof which this is hardly future proofing IMHO. Lastly, with prices these days, it is a much better option to buy a decent 4k tv for a decent price than a 1080p tv for a very low price because it will quickly depreciate and 4k tv`s are much better experiences anyway.

      Da,Taper The ks8000 is not the best display on the market. Don't get me wrong, it's really good and has impressive HDR performance but it's an edge lit panel and it can't match the black levels of OLED, not to mention the bloom and halo effects that can stick out in dark scenes. For the price the ks8000 is a great tv but the LG OLEDs like the B6 and C6 are better in terms of image quality and contrast. The OLEDs don't get quite as bright but the HDR performance is actually superior since it can reach perfect black levels.

      @Lloyd Bonafide high end QLED displays have an extra anti-glare coating on them which makes them better in MOST living rooms, since it is common to have direct sunlight hit where you are putting your TV. As for always buying the cheap TV, the reason why you don't do that is because you don't get the new features every year. The HDR on a 399 TV is fake (doesn't actually support HDR formats), the motion is worse than TVs from 10 years ago (it may say motion 120 but that is 60hz), and you will never get superior color or contrast because you are still buying 8-bit edge-lit TVs even in 2019. The reason why these TVs suck so bad? Because people buy them without thinking saying 'well TVs will just get better later so might as well buy cheap'. Just because a TV is cheap does not make it a good value.

      Paul's Hardware I am sorry sir but after seeing your hack setup, in which u have your satellite speakers on the floor instead of on pedestals... central channel on the floor and to the side... and visible cables... I am sorry but you have no authority telling anyone how or what to buy anything. and oh my god I just saw... your surround speakers are in the front, on the ground ( lol)... just a bit appart. atrocity. you're clueless about home theater and u just bought ( of course) -- a budget TV. lol

    Just got the LG TV OLED55B9PLA model Black Friday deal for £1100. Amazing technology. Upscaling the 1080 signal looks great on the main free view stations. The lower resolution channels 576I not so good, but then again you can’t polish a turd, lol. Blacks are amazing as well on this. Also good range of 4K streaming from amazon, Netflix, etc available. This is a great budget OLED if you don’t want to spend the bigger bucks/higher money. If you can afford it, go for an OLED or QLED, it’s the best technology.

      K1NgKourosh Hahaha you paid more than a good car for your TV? Go Sony instead.

      TotalFreshness I had the Sony ZD9 for a week...then saw OLED in the flesh in a store. Swapped it instantly. Once you go OLED you cannot go back to anything else inferior.
      Also I can afford it so price is not an issue for me, I just want the best.

      K1NgKourosh haha you swapped a tv that cant handle the HDR10 standard and lg can only emit you 500 nits of brightness to not give you a true hdr experience. And you're losing out on details in those dark scenes since pixels shut off. Try watching gravity on an oled. You won't make out half of what's going on. Z9 is the best tv on the market right now.

    • @Biggus_Dickus_69

      Michael Dunn Peak brightness is nearly 700 nits. OLED has it's own criteria from UHD premium alliance...because it's in a different league and cannot be compared to old LCD technology.
      90% of professional reviews have rated the E6/G6 OLEDs higher than any other TV for 2016.
      HDR 10 is fine on these TVs but do you know what is better? Dolby Vision...another awesome feature of this TV.
      Once you experience OLED everything else feels inferior. Just go on AV forums etc and see how many have owned both the Z9D and the E6/G6...there's a reason the Sony is a much inferior with it's bleed and clouding not to mention lack of DV and the awful Android TV OS...
      E6/G6 is king...and what else has happened? Sony are now rumoured to be entering the OLED market for 2017/18.

    • @TotalFreshness
      @TotalFreshness 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      K1NgKourosh No one measures PEAK brightness. LED's do more than 2000 nits if that's the way you're gonna look at the numbers. If you calibrate your LG OLED to correct settings you will be around 400-500nits max.
      Actually, the Sony XD93 or ZD9 and Samsung KS8005 gets much better reviews than the LG Oleds.

    Hey there. I liked your video but had some questions about it. 1) this video is about buying 4k tvs, and the tv you bought isn't technically a 4k tv and is certainly not uhd (premium) certified (another thing I'm surprised you failed to mention when you called that tv "hdr." it is most certainly hdr compatible, but it is NOT hdr enabled and there's a big difference. Speaking of big, I'm not sure I've ever heard an av expert ever recommend a 60 hz 65" TV. How come you don't talk about refresh rate (at least in respect to screen size) at all? And then lastly, out of everything you didn't talk about in world of 4k uhd, why did you pick your last main point to be stay away from curve? Especially now that there's only a $200 dollar difference, if any sometimes, between the flat and curved version. Thanks

    Great rules list. I'm looking to purchase an LG in the Black Friday sales (UK) this week, 2018, there are two models I'm looking at, 55UK6470PLC and 55UK6950PLB. Both comparable with a few minor differences, namely the price, the 6950 is £130 more expensive. Doing some more research, I've found differences as follows;
    HDMI: 6470x3 , 6950x4. Backlighting: 6470-Direct LED , 6950-Edge-Led (Local Dimming). Speakers: 6470-DTS; 6950-DTS Virtual X; Interpolation Technology: 6470-PMI; 6950-TruMotion.
    In reviews, the LG Software has come out by far at the top of the list and also includes the ThinQ technology.
    The only real difference I can see to justify the extra cost is in the speakers. The reviews on DTS Virtual X come out quite favourably but not sure in my small-ish room whether this would make me want to fork out the extra cash. Any thoughts?
