You guys are my heroes. I had a '52 Pontiac with a Straight 8 when I was a teenager in the 70's. It had a bad rod so my dad took off the pan and the head and we pulled the pistons through the top just like y'all did. He had a mobile service that came out and ground the crankshaft journal from underneath so we could put an oversized rod bearing in. He taught me how to grind the valves with a valve lapper tool while we had the head off. Now I've got an '83 LandCruiser and I need to install new rings. Thanks to y'all, I realize it can still be done due to the layout of the engine. Thanks!

This is got me now taking my thanks giving weekend to take it apart. Sadly I am In the army and stationed in GA away from my family in PA but I’m thankful for this video and helping me out. Leave the Engine in if only Rings and Big end Bearings (Con Rod Bearings) are to be replaced ! I used to do that all the time when I replaced Rings and Bearings ,lol ! Pull the Pistons out the top after the Head has been removed ! A Friend of mine reckons that he has done it the opposite way ! Pulling the Pistons out of the bottom of an Engine ! Re-ringing them and putting the Pistons back in from the bottom !

@@MuddafukhingdisKUST certain cars are easier to do it on than others. Also if you have to pull the crankshaft out then well, you kinda have to pull the engine because you gotta disconnect the Tourqe converter/ Clutch in order to get the crank out.
But pretty much you just pull away anything blocking the oil pan from coming down, then the oil pan. Then the head so you can push the pistons up out of the block after disconnecting the connecting rods. Sometimes this is much easier said then done on some cars lol

Black means that it is burning oil and blue means that it the mixture of the fuel to air ratio is too rich. I believe

I'm assuming a straight 6 is similar to a in line 5. One cylinder quit on me. Something broken. Still runs, but, squeely. Your just one video I watched out of dozens. I plan on replacing that one cylinder. AND drink my rum as I do it.
