Two common causes for most of these: 1) most car owners don't have a hoist and wouldn't know what they are looking at if they had one; 2) cars sometimes have dramatic issues that the driver couldn't hope to solve on their own, mostly because of point 1. That "oil change place" needs to stand behind their work AND workers. I took a 2007 dodge grand caravan into Costco to get tires changed and the tech broke a couple lug nuts off, told us and made an appointment at a local garage to have it repaired THEY MADE THE APPOINTMENT and paid for the repairs. They could have simply glued the lug nuts on and sent us on our way but they didn't!! These shop owners have to and need to do better because word of mouth "business cards" are 10x better than paper business cards.

Have an 03 F250 diesel that was changing the fuel filter. One of the times looked up to find a 10mm ratchet wrench perched but not stuck between the transmission & frame...not mine...probably left there during one of it's visits to the dealer by a PO. 10s of thousands of miles just hanging out...so getting lost isn't just the 10mm socket's job.

These are all good and funny, but what about doing a series on “Mechanic states”? It’s getting very bad out there for us customers. I just had my 2018 Silverado transmission flushed and barely got out of the parking lot when something was very wrong. They refused to look at it just saying “sometimes a flush will make problems worse” while ignoring the fact that I wasn’t having any prior to their work. Took my truck to a transmission shop and they found the transmission was 4 quarts low on fluid.
Just out of pure curiosity regarding the last one: HOW did they manage to break the plug? What can be done to fix the problem, if anything? (Repair wise, that is.)
Constant over tightening, probably put on with an impact. Gonna need a new pan cause I bet there isn't a thread left, not to mention the plugs twisted off in there

In a modern car? Good luck. It takes that long to get it on the ramps and remove the skid plate alone. Then the plastic drain plug ever so gently (gotta make sure to buy two, because the mandatory replacement doesn't come with the filter kit) and realize it won't drain properly because it's on ramps. My sister's 2000 yeah, it's a 15 minute job, or my 1980. Metal pan, metal drain plug properly tightened. But not my 2020.

@@wildnis5219 Yes. Got cosmolene (RP-2342) and so far it seems to be sealing the undercoat really well. We will see in a year how it holds up.
And it's soooo easy to accelerate with a bit of pool acid concentrate when someone needs some learning.

I had that squeaking slave cylinder issue, thought it was my clutch going bad. Turned out to need a drop of grease on the rod/cup. Phew.
Too much wobble there and your clutch throw-out bearing may be on its way out.
