Basic price £36k 😮. That’s £10k more than the MG4 for a more ‘frumpy’ looking car - and that’s before options to bring it to an equivalent spec of the MG4. That is why VW are loosing the plot and they are not selling well. The Tesla also wins hands down over the ID3.

Like I said further down I have an MG4 it is a bad car but unfortunately drives nice. The so many hardware faults but MG will not acknowledge them.
I have a fault AC unit which Customer service Coordinator Gary Smart say is a noisy unit as standard and is a feature.
Many people have distorted under trays, which MG original said was faulty, but has now changed their mind.
Oil leak from the suspension. This is just a few of the many and software worse than original ID3
Please do not get an MG you will regret it

I am am ID3 owner, but I’m realistic that it isn’t the best looking car on the road. I do however think the more traditional car look is better than the odd MG4. I bought mine for 30K for a fairly high spec model which was delivered half way though 2022 (drive the deal price), the current price for my spec is 40k which imo is absolutely insane for this car. VW seriously need to be more realistic with their prices and improve the dealer network. If i could buy a Tesla model 3 for around 3k more which is the current price gap for a similar spec I absolutely would have!

I've had my ID.3 for 3 years in December. At the time I got an incredible deal - was around £26-£27k with a heat pump and with alloys as they had all kind of discounts to clear stock before Christmas plus the government grant was another £3k at the time. For that price it was well worth it but god have I had some issues with it. I can finally say, as of 2 months ago, the car doesn't have any software issues with the 3.2 update. Only took 2 and a half years and really tarnished the whole new car experience I have to say. Personally I would wait a few more years before I considered VW again.
The Kona/ Niro with better efficiency and now V2L looks more tempting than ever!

I had one for a couple of months in 2022. You would set the car up as you wanted it (eg; ambient lighting colour and brightness etc) and the next morning its all back to the factor setting! I initially thought it was me as I couldn’t find the save button for each setting in the menus. But it wasn’t me, there is no save button and it was the dodgy software at play. Got rid of it after 2 moths and bought a Diesel car!

    • @mst4314
      @mst4314 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@stevena9305 that is a shame. I've got to say all of the problems I have had have not been due to the electric drive train, only due to crappy VW software and some dubious dealers.
The car has not put me off electric, far from it, it is lovely to drive and convenient for me with a driveway to charge on. The car has put me off VW cars for a few years regardless of the drive train.
We have a diesel golf as a 2nd car which we rarely use now as it's more expensive to run and feels a bit agricultural to drive compared to electric!
I would seriously consider something like an electric Kona or Niro for my next car, they seem to strike a decent balance of price/spec/range

I had a test drive today in the MG4 Xpower and was going to go to the VW dealer next door to arrange a test drive of the facelift ID3 - VW haven’t fixed the things that made me return the previous version 1 day into a 3 day test drive. I want to buy a European built EV rather than a Chinese one, but not at such a hugely inflated price to get a very basic car. I never had a problem with the external looks of the ID3, but the internals were cheap, the software was awful and the pricing was difficult to swallow.
With the refresh, the interior is marginally less cheap (but still too much glossy black plastic and those stupid haptic buttons) and the software has been upgraded to useable but slow.
Sadly for VW the pricing fails to reflect that the EV market has moved on. I just cannot see VW selling many of these when cars such as the MG4 and BYD are£ 7-10k cheaper.
VW has done the bare minimum to make the car relevant and then shot themselves in the foot with the pricing.

It's bizarre because we bought a 2 year old 1st Edition and we don't find any "annoyances" with the haptics, the touch cobtrols or the surfaces. And as for the software, it seems fine and our car is still on version 2.4.
I can name one annoyance but other than this we spend our time sitting in the car looking forward, talking, and generally doing what peopke do when on a journey. What we don't do is spend our time whilst on the move playing with the infotainment, fiddling with settings, using the haptics, putting the rear windows down, then up, then down, ...
The car is capable, competent, comfortable, efficient, relaible.
Our long term aberage (6 months) is 4.2 miles/kWh and up to 5.4kWh just now in the cool English summer of 2023.

FWD yes, but there's more boot space because of this, and it drives really well & handles beautifully. Its a fantastic all around package with a lot of tech included unlike the VW. Ruling it out is a mistake having driven it, especially considering how much VW are dropping the ball of late all while still charging a premium for their vehicles (I currently drive a VW btw)

Having tried the ID3, Cupra Born and MG before going for the Megane I would say my impression of the MG4 was that it is cheap because it is cheap. This car is expensive. Asking more than 40k and then having the nerve to ask 900 for a heat pump and heaven knows what else for this and that kit is taking the wee wee. The small battery car is a city car. Yes it will do long journeys but if you are going on holiday with partner and luggage in all weathers it isn’t good enough. Nobody in their right mind will rely on a single charger which might be duff occupied or iced. Sites with multiple chargers are the future. The trouble is there are not enough of them yet. All this means that the anticipated 200 plus a bit range is a myth. The problem is made worse by only charging to 80% or 90% at a push and not going down below 10% before charging. 150 miles between stops?

There are three regular drivers who have different seating positions and we all have the same complaint. The windscreen pillars cause massive blind spots. I don't know how they've done it, but you're completely blind to the right approaching roundabouts and visibility round bends is awful. We all regularly drive other cars without the same problem. I can't see a facelift fixing that and it's nothing to do with being an EV. Really disappointing that a car company can get something so basic so wrong.
I also don't like the handling - it seems difficult to place accurately on the road through fast corners. We also have a Model 3. There's no way I'd pay list price for the VW with the Tesla that close in price, even if i have to hold my nose and cover my ears regarding Musk and his opinions...

As the third generation people's car, maybe the ID.3 could be badged as a Beetle. 🤔

@@backwoodsbungalow9674 It's not good enough to be badged as a Beetle. The Beetle is an iconic car, this is not even close, imo.

The platform it's on is too heavy so it's efficiency is not the best. Software has been a massive issue too. I really think VW are in trouble.

VW are still 2 years behind the competition. As you stated, this is what it should have been like 2 years ago. Nuf said.
