Arthur plays so beautifully, I am so glad he is out there with so much intelligence and sensitivity, sharing his gifts with the world! I'm not sure I've ever hear these impromptus done so excellently!
The Vladimir Horowitz recording of the 3rd Schubert Op 90 Impromptu, in G-flat, is the most sublime I have ever heard, played more slowly than most, and with exquisite lyricism and phrasing by one of the very greatest pianists of the 20th century. In this Schubert impromptu, which he recorded at age 84 in Vienna, Horowitz played with a much different kind of virtuosity than he was known for in his youth. I am now listening to the then 19 year old Arthur Jussen play the same piece, and I am both amazed and grateful that we have a young master among us. His recording is the closest I have ever heard to the Horowitz in terms of phrasing, lyricism, pure beauty. BZ, Arthur, from an old US Navy ship driver.
I agree! Horowitz's interpretation is the best for me, but Arthur plays very well too! I don't know if this is true or not, but he maybe say Horowitz's recording? Even if that's not the case, this performance is sublime!
I just listened to another perfectly competent performance of these two works and wondered why they left me so unmoved. So I listened to this performance again, and this time what struck me most was the expressive use of dynamics: both horizontally (in terms of the phrase arc) and vertically (between the hands). Singly or together, these brothers are just utterly perfect in everything they play, down to the minutest detail! I'm awestruck all over again! They are such a treasure.
Dear Arthur, that unique Schubert célébration is m'y Christmas gift 2018. Thanks a million. May God bless and keep you in His Love for ever. Take good care and be happy.
So brilliantly musical and inspiring. Mooving and simply gorgeous, God-gifted young man. A million thanks for such a gift wishing you the best for all those years to come.
He has grown so much more in beauty of playing and beauty of person in the last 6 years. To me, one of the potential true greats of this coming generation. I'd love to see him and Seong-Jin Cho collaborate!
This is certainly the best interpretation of this wonderful Schubert's impromptu... Marvellous👍👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏. Arthur, my best compliments from Italy!!!! I'm your fan😊😊😊😊👍👍👍👍👍
Arthur shows complete union with these Impromptus. He is the Impromptus. I admire his complete understanding, control, and union with what he plays! Ah, to have such memorization abilities.
Arthur plays with a passion somewhat veiled until full expression explodes in unequaled drama. I am both soothed and soar to new heights by his sensitivity and interpretation. Thank you for the quintessential concert
Previous decades had masters like Horowitz, Rubinstein playing Schubert. Now we have Jussen. Sublime playing. And also the wonderful Valentina Lisitsa.
Number 3, starting at 5:40, is just beautiful. Arthur is on the same level as great masters that excelled on this piece, such as Alfred Brendel, Maria Joao Pires or Valentina Lisitsa. Delicate touch, expressive interpretation. Bravo!
Im proud of this fellow dutchman. He is on par with the great pianists . He plays with al lot of feeling, passion and the right accents. Really amazing!
I've noticed that the brothers together or separately, in the way their bodies move and in their facial expressions, must feel the music in an almost physical way; remarkable. It's as if each of them enters a reverie at the start of the piece and only comes out of it at the end; the way they close their eyes is part of the feeling.
The articulacy of each note in the first piece, married with the clean pedalling created the impression of pearls. Wonderful. The performance of the second piece was equally measured and presented beautiful colour. If this is how he performs now, goodness know how incredible his output will be when he is in his forties and fifties. Something to treasure in the future. I shall be watching both brothers and hope to see them play in person one day. All my best to you, Arthur, and to your esteemed brother. 🙂
You hit the #3 perfectly my young friend - exactly the right expression - on target, thank you for this unbelievably en pointe rendering - just one added little note - now...let go completely, hold nothing back in the release of the thought and emotion. God bless you both.

Master Arthur, with Schubert as well as with Chopin, you always seem at your best. Always so properly dressed and at ease, you make everyone feel comfortable and in the best of moods. It's always a great pleasure to see and to hear you at a grand piano. Is Québec Cité somewhere in your plans, in the near future? In awaiting, I wish you the best and please share my heartfelt greetings with your dear brother Lucas. You two gifted young men, please take good care and be happy.
Now I have added this performance to my list of favorite versions of Schubert's Impromptu in G flat, together with those of Brendel, Kempff and Lipatti. No particular order.

Tell more of your friends and family about them. More people need to subscribe to the Jussen Brothers! Such an amazing place for exquisite music!!!
His playing gives me an emotional 'high' which I cannot explain. I am truly honored to be able to listen to such an artist!

The Jussens are GORGEOUS and enormously talented.
Arthur played this lovely work clearly and sensitively. Thank you for this treat.
I am overwhelmed by his musicianship and technique but then his soul surpasses it all
Absolute beauty... Brings tear to my eyes..
