Nic: with all the uncertainty and anxiety abounding in the world just now, it is so refreshing to be able to relax and de-stress with your videos. Not sure how long you guys will be able to continue mudlarking the Thames, but here's hoping you will continue to do so for as long as possible. We need you right now more than ever! Please stay healthy!
So agree steve, it's been hard winter here in Iceland and this C 19 😨, i was thinking that it would be ok to have a polarbear at your door than this pest!
I think negative comments and thumbs down are from sad unhappy people who want others to feel like them. I myself hit the like button immediately because I find these wanders wonderful. I usually can’t see what she zeroes in on, 😂. Love the background information she gives and her art, all very upbeat and happy. 🥰💕❤️👍👍
Thanks as always for being a bright spot and a relaxation point for my day. Thankfully I get to spend lots of time outdoors walking with the dog, and do occasionally find things in parks and parking lots. These days my dog is happy to give love to anyone we meet and leash length distance is perfect. Stay well Nicola and all viewers!
Your charm and excitement when you find something is contagious. That might be a poor choice of words at this time in our global history, however, after watching your Videos I am very happy.
My Grandfather was born in England, Surrey in 1888 I grew up hearing about his childhood, I love watching your videos good luck Mudlarking 👍 from Michigan USA 🇺🇸
Darling Nic, goddess of the Thames, thank you for the break in my dark day, watching the world collapse . so happy to see things that survived in the mud, the bridge, the gulls, the needle, all the things you find, give a few moments of hope.
Hello Nic, I've been binge watching your videos and they're brilliant , I like the format of the newer ones where you sit in your studio and show us the cleaned finds and give us all the info on what you've found. I really enjoyed the Fred Jury story . Can't wait for you to get back out on the foreshore
A beautiful Springlike day here in Pennsylvania! And with your video Nic it only added to this beautiful day being outside and reorganizing for Spring. And a wonderful Spring Equinox to you as well. Surely it must be a magical time to explore the shores of the Thames! Thank You Kindly! I always enjoy the information you find out about the things you find. Like little George Smith, shivering and hungry and making buttons for barely enough to keep him alive. I wonder how his adult life turned out? Love, Light and Peace! DaveyJO in Pennsylvania
Love love your videos! I love your nature shots, they are so cool and arthistic... learning so much from you and your finds... enjoyed seeing you on Si-Finds too. Great to see you and stay healthy! Hi from Canada! Wow! What a beautiful coin/crucifixion scene... Easter appropriate. It was meant to be saved, and you did, cool!
Nicola so glad you listened to the inner you and cleaned off the piece of the crucifixion. And thank the Lord that He didnt stay dead because He rose and now we have a living Lord! Praise His Name.
Excellent video; I love how you incorporate the sounds of the waterbirds and waves into everything, to me it makes it all so much more present. And I watched it with two of my pet Bearded Dragons on the couch with me, and as soon as the sounds of the gulls came up they both went on the alert-- if you're a lizard, birds are your major predator. Just a suggestions about what to make with that collection of phones: Two fish linked together, the image of Pisces. You could make such wonderful scales with the fronts and backs and other pieces of the phones! And the two fish, tied to one another... there's a nice little image of communication. I'm not big into Astrology but I do love how we're hardwired (depending on our cultures) to read certain meanings into symbols, and the houses of astrology offer so much fun to play with-- you could do a whole series with what you find. ^_^ Or just Pisces, for the River Thames; either/or. Whatever you choose to make, I'll bet it'll be wonderful. This sad bit of history about the button-maker's trade was pretty appalling; I wondered if the poor boy whose details you gave had a family that had fallen down in their finances, since he had once had a little schooling but it had stopped. Poor kid; I hope his life improved. Lastly, that bottle was just glorious-- it made me think of dragonfly-wings! Gorgeous.
Ah, thanks for the fix. I had the opportunity to be in London last Saturday after my metal detecting tour ended, and spent a couple hours by Oxo Wharf. Pottery and bits...no pipe bowls, unfortunately. My late March trip to London and daily foreshore walking for me, has unfortunately been cancelled as are most other travels these days. When we reschedule, I'll be back (hopefully this year) and plan to put my new 3 year permit to good use. In the meantime, I'll sit here and drool over my keyboard as I watch your absolutely lovely videos. Again, thank you!
I saw the phenning and knew what it was. I knew it was a German/Prussian coin. The silver scene coin/medal could be a pilgrims medal from visiting a holy site like Rome. I love buttons. My grandmother worked as a spinner as a young girl. But not the ages of the children in some mills in the 1800's. So nice to watch and forget the virus. I hope you and yours are well and safe.
So nice to have your videos now (so long as you are safely able to do so) while the world struggles to deal with CV-19. Hang in there, everyone, and stay healthy! And be kind to one another. Thanks again, Nic.
Hello my dear friend across the ocean 🌊...I pray this note finds u and ur family well.my wife and I find your videos so interesting! It’s just hard to believe U find and touch items that haven’t been touched for centuries! Ur pipe collection is fabulous! Please be careful in the river Thames! Take care!
Very lovely finds! Also, is just me that is always looking at all the rocks in the background? Lol! I'm an avid rockhound! Thank you Nicola for sharing your finds!
Another relaxing day on the foreshore. For whatever its worth, on the bottom of that little foot there appears to be some printing, at least on my screen. Thanks again for a wonderful Sunday afternoon. Your friend in Missouri, USA.
Nicola what exceptional finds, the Paris medallion so pretty! But that bottle is knockout ♥️♥️♥️Thank you for this relaxing respite, watching you comb the shores takes one mind off our problems 🌎. Stay safe and thanks again 🤗
Hi there from Western Australia, thank you for sharing your videos and keeping me sane while Australia is going barmy over of all things toilet paper 👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️
Always love your videos. I especially love the wrap up in your studio. Always informative and interesting. Here in northern California people over 65 have been advised to self isolate especially if you have a medical condition that effects your immune system. So I will look forward to your future videos to take my mind off of this virus that is freaking all of us out.
The punt is possibly derivative of pontelo, an Italian word meaning “little bridge” which is the connection between the pipe and the glass piece you are working on. When the pipe is removed after the piece is finished it’s called a pontil mark. Common on handmade bottles and marbles. We try to either fire polish or cold work them after, harder to do with such a deep recess.
Fascinating as always Nicola. Those toes were so creepy! Loved the iridescence on the bottle but for poignancy the buttons and token have it for me. I remember train personnel wearing those railway buttons in the 50’s. And the Hasluck button’s a reminder that child labour has only changed location and not gone away, and that for some families it’s a lifesaving necessity still. Thank you. Always such a pleasure to share your mudlarking adventures and your many interesting finds.
Another adventure with you. I, like most of the others watching, look forward to a notice that we have a new ‘treat’ from you, on Sundays. My dream come true is another chance to see the Thames again. I was there for a visit almost 30 yrs ago, and I know I missed so much. Thanks again for another ‘trip’ to the Thames. LOVE watching your adventures.
Lovely zen-video today! such a lot of small bits 'n bobs, all pretties! Especially the little pilgrim token, that was a huge surprise! - the bottle was a fun discovery, too 🤗 love from Denmark 🇩🇰
Hey! Any chance of you responding to my comment about the origin of the word "dollar" from the word "thaler". The Dutch are claiming they did it. But I think it came from Danish.. I could be wrong. In the US they teach us that the word "dollar" came from the Danish pronunciation of the word "thaler". Either way, plenty of people of Danish ancestry where i am from. Deep South, USA!
Thank you Nicole great vlog again. So sad about the children working so young and in dire straights in the factories. Great and interesting finds with history. 🙂
If you haven't already done art related to the found cell phones, it might be fun to paint them bright red and to affix them all to a large board and place them in a shape to look like one of your iconic red phone booths there in the UK. LOVE your channel. I've been sewing hundreds of singers masks and have been thoroughly enjoying your treasure hunting. If I ever come back to London, I'd love to buy you a cup of tea and possibly get a permit to go mudlarking with you. Thank you for all your wonderful videos. I'm an appreciative woman here in Texas.
Dear Nicola I have been out of commission for a while and haven't been able to watch your amazing video. But I caught it today. It was absolutely amazing and delicious. Thank you for your grace and magic. Poppet
Always find your videos so interesting & educational !!! Love hearing the stories of the things you find, about the people that lived so long ago !!! ❤️🙂
Tear the phones into pieces and use the bits to make water themed art - seahorses, seabirds, Cormorant, ships. It would go along with your Tideline art themes. Thank you for sharing your finds. I love to watch you and Si-finds. Very relaxing to watch in these uncertain days.

I must say young lady you have a gift on finding those pipes, some great finds and I enjoy your history lesson on the objects, also enjoy the way you incorporate the birds and boats in your vids. take care
Nic the fluted pipes look like drapery hanging down with a deep valance along the top. So many things to see along the mud top in this video. I kept squealing at you for things you didn't see. But alas, no one can pick it up on just a few larks. I remember my dad making me a button out of one of the links off my dog's collar whilst hiking. Sewing it on with my little girl scout kit made it fun. Poor gull took up a fish a bit bigger than his gullet. Foreign coinage! The medallion with Christ scene on it is stunning. Good instincts, keep listening to it. Poor kids. I hope we don't go back to those days with the economy these days!🤔😣😣. Blessings to you lady
I believe you have a devotional cross there, The Cross of St. Peter. Paris has a long historical connection to St. Peter and one of the oldest churches in Paris is the Church of Saint Peter of Montmartre. Peter, of course, was crucified upside down on a cross.
How about creating a collage of the Thames embankment using the phones to interpret all the tall buildings etc., along the shoreline. Love your artwork and creations, and the mudlarking, of course 😀
Your bottle is definitely a mid to late 19th century wine. The large punt is a good indicator of age, since the wines in those days produced much sediment, which was captured around the punt. Excellent find, that irridescence is gorgeous!😊
Lovely video, just like everyone else I so look forward to your finds and the wildlife too. It really does help to keep a different perspective on our crazy world, thank you 🙏🏻
What a refreshing Video Nicola, You see been in the house since last week with nasty Fibromyalgia flare up. 😍😍😍That wine bottle is STUNNING!! Lucky you for going back!! Your reward for a hard days trudging through the mud. Same with your religious medallion. Wow, always trust your gut! That pretty Parisian tag is so unusual...good job identifying as much as you did. (The slogan is one I should personally adopt..lol) Thank you for another adventure along the foreshore! I almost feel that should I ever travel to Britain, I will know my way along the shore quite well due to you & Simon...but I'd better carry a tide book along, so I'm not washed away unexpectedly...😆
Just a tip maybe, but soaking metals in vinegar, 5% acetic acid, or preserves vinegar 10%, I’ve even boiled objects in a pot, strips the tarnish right off ! Have not tried with plated metals however so beware. Works amazing on brass, copper and silver like a charm. Keep up the great videos !
