Three Killings in Kampala - BBC Africa Eye documentary

  • In November last year, more than 50 people were shot and killed during a government crackdown on the streets of Uganda’s capital, Kampala. Officials defended the use of live fire, saying the police were responding to rioters. But a new investigation by BBC Africa Eye documents a killing spree on Kampala Road, and shows damning evidence that Ugandan security forces, firing from the back of a police truck, shot at least seven unarmed people.
    ***
UPDATE: Following this #BBCAfricaEye investigation into last year's police killings in Kampala, the editor of one of Uganda's biggest newspapers has been summoned for questioning by police after reporting on the new evidence and findings presented in it.

I personally witnessed the death of of one guy in one of the kampala building. In the afternoon I went to town at hotel Triangle for a job interview which took 30minutes, but during my interview we smelt teargas and after the interview I decide to go back home, I passed by Mabirizi complex then slow down town in the new park to Get a taxi. But immediately I reached Mabirizi building, I saw people running while teargas canisters and live bullets where shot and thrown I the building. I decided to return back. I was one on the last Female person to enter the building using that door while the security guy was closing. I didn't know there was an old man behind me but immediately I stood in the corner, an Old man fell right infornt of me and that John like you have mention. I witnessed him taking his last breath. The other guy in the checked shirt was shot in the thigh. He almost acted like he was mad, he talked to himself, fell down and after 30minutes people started to gather and held him. I froze, I cried shouting calling for help. I survived that day and I can never forget the man who died right front of me. It's my worded day of life. I had never seen this. I believe many people lost their lives that day and I blv they where more than 50.

Thank you BBC Africa Eye, you’ve done a job that couldn’t be done by the Ugandan media. Many people lost lives that day, some of which we’ll never know. My prayer is that God should comfort those who lost their loved ones, it’s sad to see how the country has moved on yet we lost lives, it’s sad to see a dictator swear in with stains of blood on his hand, it’s sad to see a one eyed man say that the security has a responsibility of protecting people and property and yet the same security took lives, it’s sad to see a security officer not have the slightest remorse for what happened. These people don’t understand how it feels to loose someone you love, they were poor men, who went to the bush and killed hundreds of Ugandans and so killing is a normal thing for them. But one thing is certain, they’ll be killed by their swords, God is a fair judge.
