Mine crashed into a pool 3 days ago and sank 10" deep. I retrieved it within 3 minutes and it was still powered up. I removed the battery and placed the drone outside in direct sunlight in 102 degree weather for 4 hours. I placed a fresh battery (not the one that sank with it) in the drone and the outside battery lights #1 ansd #4 flash immediately without pushing the power button. I then went ahead and pushed the power button with the controller on as well as the DJI FLY app. #1 and #4 lights still flash and #2 and #3 remain off. The iphone shows that the camera is sending the video to the drone as it shows up OK on the screen. However, it shows that drone is not connected. I tried putting the sticks to inside corners to see if motors would start but nothing. Have tried above several more timnes without success. Also the gimbal does not go through the motions when I start the drone each time, although the propellers twitch as they normally do. There must. be a way to get the drone to connect? Any ideas? I have not tried the hair dryer, its so hot outside that I thought it would work better. Suggestions welcome.
From experience as used to work in a hifi repair shop many years ago in the 90's most water damage is caused by not removing batteries quickly from electrolysis eating the copper away so lucky you did the right things in time and good advice!
Well done Gavin Having been a model flyer for many years I feel I should let you know it’s always best practice to turn on your Transmitter before you turn on the model. The models receiver may go into failsafe mode and cause connection issues.
Thank you kindly, simply a one off for this video since I wasn't going to take off and had to try coordinate a screen recording, in normal operation controller is always on first 🙂 very much appreciate the time to comment and watch thank you
Hey my little dj2 is 65 ft up in the area caught on a branch it's raining like crazy what's going to happen I won't be able to get it down probably until tomorrow at least
Thats brill and good advice take it on a disrance when its nice Its something we would have dun in barnsley not giving up and trying wat you have worst thing it would be caput If you havent a silicon bag pound kand or pound stretcher did little bags to hang in a wardrobe for condensation in caravans or home £1 So try that as well all ideas are options to try if you are in this situation and help others the accident just shows how easy it is to crash and wen on river banks may be land your home position from take off manually a liittle further away from river or pond if its windy Thanks fir sharing gavin
Absolutely! Just one of those things wasn't it, 2cm further back and it wouldn't of happened, just shows how easy an accident happens! Whilst in auto landing mode wind just took it forward nothing I could do, I was determined to get it going haha
I absolutely feel for you. First thing to do with anything that has a battery, is to remove the battery as fast as possible and then do what you can to fix it!
Under normal circumstances and the fact I consider myself reasonably intelligent that's what I would of done - but because it stayed powered and the motors were all submerged I thought quick let's try spin the water out !
Yes, as you drop the throttle stick, you have no control...Something that did occur to me when I first experienced it..Great that you have shown others the hazards, pleased you dried her out. 😳😀🇬🇧
The irony of falling into that puddle after flying over the Humber, the sort of thing that would happen to me! A great recovery though and some great comments added here, I hope you can sleep more easily now 👍.
Thanks Paul! Completely irony eh! All those controlled flights I do over water and well in auto landing mode wind catches it and blows it forward then off the edge into a puddle. Imagine how much I was kicking myself thinking if I was just 2cm further back it wouldn't of happened. still a positive outcome!
hi there, ive recently dropped my drone in sea water. when i picked it out of the water, it started smoking and i disconnected, took out the battery and looks like mother board is heavily damaged and the battery can no longer be used as its damaged too. i want to buy dji care but i dont think theyll accept my situation. Do you have any suggestion you can give me? is my drone fixable? looking forward to your reply. thanks
Absolutely David! Such a basic and simple accident! Just shows that you need to be careful as in auto landing mode for those couple of seconds you have no control
@@GAVINHR You're welcome. Indeed and such a bizarre circumstance which you've highlighted and shared with us all. Plus, the added bonus of a fix - phew, at least you can carry on flying when weather permits :)
😂😭 oh no!! so painful (the "inglorious" nature of the water crash). I feel your pain. (and thanks for sharing. These are always valuable lessons to get reminded of ). And, absolutely . . . congratulations on the recovery. cheers, Mr. GAVINHR
Glad you saved it, mine fell in the river, found it 24h later.. dried it with Hair Dryer, placed it on top of a heater radiator for 50 hours, popped it a new battery and nothing happened, no lights, no power indicator (green battery level on drome ) no movement .. nothing at all. Completely dead (dji mini 3 pro)
Seeing as how you had a flight with no problems do you recommend dunking my drone in water to solve the disconnection issues instead of updating my app??? :)
Hahaha! I've heard v1.2.4 gives the drone rock solid ocusync connection and increases battery life by 300%, and yeah mate top tip, give your drone a wash and it washes out all the cache files, frees up weight so it flys faster ! 👌😂
Well done Gavin! It seems to be the best solution to drying out the drone! 👍Flew mine today from my garden and lost all signal and control screen went blank got warnings loss of signal! I there was no control whatsoever from the sticks, I decided to press the RTH button ( this is the first time ever I have used this method) and it did eventually start heading home! Felt a bit scary but managed to control the landing safely. On checking the video it’s very good quality and although I’d lost control it did record the full flight! Phew!😅
Well truth be told that happened to me once on the mini 2 recently - but I was screen recording so I put it down to too much load on the phone, the app froze then crashed, what was scary however is that the mini 2 DID NOT respond to controls it was just hovering, tried RTH on the controller - nothing. Restarted the app and flew it down. That should not happen at all
Absolutely ! I mean I knew the comments section would tell me I did something wrong but in hindsight at the time you just do what you can to save the drone eh!
Glad you managed to save the mini 2 and great video. I'm torn between dji refresh and coverdrone. I think I've only got until about mid day to decide before the dji 48 hour window closes.
Personally... Trying to be as unbiased as possible here, for me coverdrone takes it. It covers theft also and should you have a flyaway it makes no difference but if you have one with care refresh you have to pay £209 unless you can recover it. On that basis alone it makes more sense. Plus with coverdrone you get liability insurance included!
@@GAVINHR Thanks for your reply 👍 Yes I think the coverdrone would probably be the best option when you weigh it all up. The public liability cover is a winner for sure. I've read about some people paying import tax on replacements too with DJI shruggingit off, which I don't think should be happening.
Totally agree with you ... However that should 100% stop and that is DJI's fault for labelling them wrong ! I work and deal with customs declarations and they are messing up the commercial value and not labelling it as a replacement item. With coverdrone you don't have that problem plus it offers more anyway!
Your video has given me hope. I had a stupid pilot error, no verifying props were secured, and lost 2 props from one arm causing my mini 2 to crash into a river, approx 4 feet of water and was submerged for 6-8 minutes before I could find her and get her out. I did not do the hair dryer, didn't know about that trick, but have let is sit open and even out in the sun a few hours to attempt to dry going on 36 hours. I am going to attempt to power her up after 48 hours has passed.
@@GAVINHR Everything worked fine except the SD card would not read any cards. I shipped it to DJI who wants $300 to fix it. I having it sent back unrepaired and will find someone local to fix. In the mean time my 2nd Mini 2 has arrived and flying will continue lol
Wow, what a nightmare Gav. What bad luck mate. Lucky it wasn't deeper or even out to sea. Glad to see all your efforts managed to get it back up and flying again. Thanks for the lesson on how not to do it🤣. Thanks for the info on coverdrone. Its probably one of the most popular insurance companies always mentioned on fb groups.👍
Exactly, customer service seems top after the few chats I've had with them and reasonable pricing and cover more ! Makes so much sense! Cheers Richard I appreciate that! Yeah next time you have a huge area to land... Land in the middle just in case!
That's a close call... fortunately it all ended well and even got some publicity for those insurances. Take care and keep flying, as we'll keep watching. ;-)
I'm glad that's still working ! Mine was crashed at the sea for over 20 mins underwater yesterday. I hope my drone could still retrieve 🥺 waiting for 2 more days to dry it out
Glad it worked for you, does it still fly? my grandson who was not so GRAND landed mine in the river Mersey. I waited 4 hours for the tide to go out and collected it.I washed it all out in the bath to get the sea salt off it then put in the immersion cupboard for two weeks. the batter was of no use so could not save that. I tried like you did then went for a flight. I used it for 2 years then it just packed in on me. Well it did that on the interview of selling it lol. glad it would not take off then did not want anybody buying faulty goods. Just passing my experience on.
Hi Ray, thanks for sharing your experience! Shame it came to thah in the end but still you had 2 years out of it ! Mine is still in perfect shape and it’s all well and good!
@@GAVINHR I been in Scotland for 3 months I lost the mini 3 pro in Loch Linnhe after dealing with DJI it was taken by an Eagle who dipped it into the water before flying off. They sent me a new one with a DJI Base ball cap and pen. Like you yesterday I was a long a peer at Loch Etive on bringing the new one home it flew right past me at speed and landed in the SEA. I’ve washed it out in tap water and put it in 4 packs of RICE. after watching your video I got the battery about 20 minutes ago washed that in tap water and put that in RICE to lol. Watch this space
I was not as lucky as you. As soon as I put a new battery in instantly smoke came out. I pulled the battery out real but it burned the back circuit board out under the obstacle awareness cameras underneath. Sob sob.
Hi mate glad its sorted out and ok. First thing absolutely must do is get the battery out ASAP . I had the same issue twice with a bait boat controller I dropped into a pond first time I left the batterys in and it corroded the pcb the second time with a new controller I did as the electronics engineer told me and removed the batterys as soon as I fished it out and it was OK once dried out . The dessicant us a great thing to have as well much better than rice.
Totally Barry, under normal circumstances I'd of pulled the battery but given the way it was upside down my first instinct was to try spin the water out of the motors , were talking 10 / 15 seconds max then I pulled the battery as soon as they didn't spin. Thankfully a save eh! If it was a pond I think I would of acted different by rinsing it with distilled water it's only because it was rainwater I was so lucky k feel
Thanks mate! The thing is, it was technically landed! And I was nowhere near the edge, but that gust just tilted the drone on landing and as it went light with the uplift near the ground it just landed a good 30 / 40cm forward. Was practically in slow motion but I was about 2m away and couldn't stop it
@@djidroneproductions1309 honestly at the time I was kicking myself at such a stupid thing ! Like 2cm further back it wouldn't of gone over but then I did start off well clear
Try the dryer on a low setting and try get as much water out. Any warm cupboard may help if you don't have the silica. Just wait 24 / 48 hours before you turn it on! Make sure it's totally dry!
😂😂😂 so that's where I'm going wrong ! 👌👌 God I just almost died from laughing and not being able to breathe. I'll fly out in sport mode as that gets me a quicker disconnection next time I think.
Exactly! Under a calm cool head is of pulled the battery immediately but since it stayed on I figure the best way to dry the motors is to spin them, they didn't so then I pulled the battery , ultimately as you say it worked so that's a bonus !
Well I wasn't expecting a puddle dunking Gavin! 😯😁😊 All those flights over the Humber I was expecting a proper dunking, not the smallest body of water ever!! 😁😎👍 Good job getting it quickly dry and agree silica gel in a bag overnight is a much better proposition than leaving it in rice and having all the hassle of picking out all those grains of rice from the motors and other small openings in the Mini 2! Glad you got it sorted, flying over water is always a heart thumping experience for me personally. 😯😊
Sorry mate I missed this! I know right? utterly incredible - and out of my control also when the drone is landing those last few seconds there is no control, well as you say at least it works. I had the bag so indeed it made sense, it can be wet from leaving it in a cold room overnight so I knew it would do the job! hope you're keeping well
If I may, I would like to give a few facts about electronics to help educate people. If you're not interested, skip to the next comment. I've studied in electronics and had job cleaning electronics after fire/water damage. Again just trying to help and educate, not telling anybody what to do. 1. Water does not damage electronics, it the minerals or stuff in water that does the damage. Salt is very corrosive and thats why salt water is bad, but it's not the water that's bad, it's the salt. Dirty water, although not salt water, still has some corrosive elements in it. That's why distilled, reverse osmosis water or 99.9% alcohol (%70 alcohol will leave bad sediments and residue) is used to clean. The problem with using rice or anything to dehydrate electronics is that, yes it takes the water away, but it leaves all the sediments and minerals behind. This is what is going to do damage long term. Remember water is not corrosive, it's what's in it. Drying only removes the water, not the sediments. The machine that I had at work was a small yet expensive "pressure washer" (made for the cleaning electronics) that used filters to purify the water to 99.9999% and electronic grade soap. We then rinsed with the purified water, blow dried and put it a low heat dehydrator for a couple of days. An ultrasonic machine with an electronic grade solution also does a good job. 2. The quicker you can remove the battery the better. Salt water will corrode metal, but when you add electrical current to the mix, it increases the corrosion speed exponentially. I've seen a video (on TH-cam) of the effects of water with electricity and you could see the corrosion build and kill a circuit in under a minute. If you were to open up the drone and look at it with a microscope, you would probably see corrosion. This, in time, will probably come back to haunt you. The residue left will attract humidity back over time and keep eating away at the tiny traces. Hope this can help someone, or at least save some rice... LOL
Absolutely great advice Robert - all comments are welcome here! I fully understand what you have said and have full respect for your expertise, Yes I know it is the salt and minerals that cause the problem not the water itself, naturally if it fell in salt water I would indeed rinsed it - the photo taken was more dirty than the water on the day - i didn't stick around on that day so I went back to take it. Sadly the car was 20 mins walk away from this location - then the journey home was another 40 minutes so sadly I only had the tools available to me at the time which was a car blowers to try displace as much water and effectively blow it out where possible :) I hold my hands up and looking back I figured try spin the rotas to get the water out, my theory is that would be the best way - immediately after them not spinning the battery was pulled - this was only say 15 seconds at most then I took the steps I did, always difficult to know what to do in the moment but I just took those actions and thankfully worked! Appreciate you watching and bringing your experience to the channel thank you
@@GAVINHR You did everything right that you could. I love your dehydration bag idea instead of rice, rice leaves lots of dust and could have added dirt into the motors. Rice is a myth that someone put on TH-cam and the internet just ran with it. As long as the battery is removed ASAP, and I mean removing the battery as you're picking it out of the water every seconds count, there is no rush to dry it out. It's actually easier to clean if still wet. Do watch out when blowing air, you could easily push air farther in and under components. Better to have warm circulating air around and not directly at it. I'm a geek and love geeky things. If ever you're bored and need something to put you to sleep, you can watch these videos of a guy demonstrating what water & soda does to electronics with and without power. Kind of a cool demo, well for a geek like me. Now this guy can be judgmental and annoying to listen to, but he knows what he's talking about. th-cam.com/video/FOgsjd5Uxt4/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/qGbQ2FPDqkw/w-d-xo.html
glad it works. It's good to share bad luck stories, as it will hopefully help others from doing it. Very surprised you would not land in the middle of the concrete structure though!
Flying my mini 2 over water Saturday and just wasn't paying attention. After using the zoom feature for locating the loons I tried to lower it to about 10 feet and fly above the calm reflection of the lake. I think I was having connection issues due to distance, I rushed the flight rule #1 broken, I should have put on the after market safety blinking lights for optimal visibility confirmation but I didn't. Lowering the drone when I couldn't see it was a big mistake. It's sitting in 4 feet of water for 3 days. Retrieve tomorrow
Oh man, I would have scrambled to pull the battery ASAP! Maybe landing upside down was a blessing. Silica gel is better than rice for sure. High five on the save!
Thanks man! I just thought maybe try spin the water out of them maybe because I panicked ! But at least a good result at the end. Thank you for watching
Good to see you saved the drone and tips for us all should we have a similar situation. Think it will make me a little more careful of surrounding landing and take of sites . To easy to get consumed by people buildings telephone lines etc and over look something such as standing water nearby !!!! 👍
My dji mini 2 lost signal and landed in the river, so I jumped in after it but took me a good 10mins to find it, it turns on but the gimbal isn't working. Anyone got any ideas please?
Greetings from Cyprus Gavin. Thanks for a great video as usual mate. Obviously the lesson learned here is check your surroundings, especially your take-off/ landing zone. Nice save of your DJI Mini 2, but lucky that puddle wasn't salt water! Cheers.
No mate ! Every single bit of equipment I use is bought by myself with my own money - if anybody ever sends me things to try I mention it in the video like the strobe light holders. It costs me a fair bit to do all the stuff I do haha!
Victory! Good work 👌 Also 1.2.5 is in the appstore now. Only found out after flying earlier so haven’t tested yet, wasn’t really having the problems mentioned by others anyway though.
@@GAVINHR Hmm, good point. I assumed that it would roll out to Android too, as a whole bunch of people seemed to have disconnection problems like you mentioned before. Curious if you end up getting one of those in app update notifications!
@@GAVINHR sounds about right! Was highly miffed that I had to land when it started raining THEN came back to find an update. Looking at the weather tomorrow down this way I think I’ll have to wait! 1.2.4 seemed fine for me, lets hope 1.2.5 hasn’t balls’d it up.
Let's hope so! Realistically apps don't affect flight performance only features and app stability, only firmware updates affect battery and flight performance and signal so it shouldn't too bad
Well done gavin, luckily your camera had no water ingress, one question for your next vlog on insurance is does cover drone cover for bird strike (attack) especially over water or sea ,cheers gavin
Hi Robert , yes it does, with this cover from coverdrone you do not have to retrieve your drone unlike DJI care refresh - eve. With the new flyaway cover it's still £209
@@GAVINHR Cheers gavin, i will look in to this as im interested is coastal shots so might be a good investment, i have put a skin on my mini two, red with yellow bits , i heard red may deter bird attacks
Yes indeed! Also one thing I was told if birds are are around fly directly upwards just straight up, apparently as birds can't do they they see it as a threat and fly away - used it many times
Thanks John, exactly, can't really prepare for a gust when it's in landing mode can you, I thought I was far enough away, I wasn't but managed to love to fly another day
Thanks man! Totally out of my control, hindsight I could of landed further back but I was well away from it, wind combined with the uplift from being close to the ground..just flew forwards 40cm or so and off the edge it went!
Absolutely! Totally unforseen, hindsite I could of landed it further back but I wasn't expecting a gust of wind to blow it a good 40cm forward whist it was in landing mode ! Least it all worked out
Yes Gavin you described it exactly what I experienced! Before I took off I got a warning saying no gps , and no connection to aircraft, the battery only had two lights on so I changed the battery and as I haven’t flown for a while that battery only had two lights on, so as I wasn’t going to go to far I thought that’ll be ok for what I want! My latest update I think is something like 1.?. 2, is there a 4? As I saw a video with problems using the 1.?.4 am I correct on that ? It was posted by your pal Henrik Olsen I believe.
Yes David 1.2.4 is the latest for android or 1.2.5 for iOS now, only stability updates. it was quite horrible when it happened just hovering I could see it but not control it
I just did the same thing. Only difference is I had DJI Refresh. Now I have a new drone. DJI honored their warranty even with operator error. Thanks DJI!
I have been there I had crashed my mini 2 in a small stream of water and drone was completely submerged in front of my eyes and I had done the same steps n kept my drone in a closed box with silica gel for 2days fingers crossed now it's working
I’m so glad you didn’t do the rice option. It’s a myth and doesn’t work. If someone does it and it works afterwards it’s merely coincidental. I’d have got loose water out, and then placed it on a radiator or airing cupboard. The silica gel is the best way to draw out any moisture also.
Absolutely, my feeling behind the hairdryer was to blow out as much standing water as possible hence also using the car blowers once I got to it :) but yeah I had that silica gel bag already so to me it made sense! Thanks for watching
I'm so happy that you were able to fix it! Well done Gavin!!! Yeah I still haven't crashed my Minis yet, hope it never happens.. Sweet Keep well and be safe Gavin.... 😁🇧🇬🛸 PS: I already Bound my Care Refresh package to the Fly Away Coverage, was really simple... 😁🇧🇬🛸
Let's hope you don't! Literally just the wind man!! As soon as it got close to the ground with the ground effect the drone just went light as it does in those final few CM's above ground, totally in landing mode so no control and the wind just blew it forward and off the edge ! Crazy eh!
@@GAVINHR Focussed too much on the camera view trying to get a shot of my friend's narrowboat and backed into a tree on the far side of the canal - took half an hour to recover as we had to move the boat to reach it 😥 Ended up selling it for spares and bought an Air 2, and later a Mini 2 too 😄
Bad story my friend ! But I guess it prompted you to buy the other two which is good! Interesting topic ... Are you still flying the air 2 given the new regs?
@@GAVINHR Not much at the moment as travel restrictions make it difficult to get 'far away from people' to meet the A3 conditions, but there are a few nearby semi-rural locations where it's safe to fly it especially with Article 16 rules ( via FPVUK membership ). I am thinking about doing the A2 CoC at some point though having the Mini 2 removes some of the need for that. I feel the MA2 is more stable than the M2 in gusty conditions - I think its weight makes it slower to respond to gusts, and of course it has 4K60 capability, so I see it as complementing the M2
I had a similar accident flying over a small creek. I was about ten feet behind the drone when it decided to drop right into the water. I fished it out within about 10 seconds, but it was completely submerged for that amount of time. I pulled the battery immediately, shook the water out and set the drone aside for about until the next day. I put another battery in and it started up immediately. I put the old battery on the charger and it would no longer take a charge, so basically I fried the battery, but somehow saved the Mini 2.
Rather lose a battery Dave than the drone! Least it's a good outcome in the end for you mate! I'm mean there's nothing I could have done, wasn't the drones fault and wasn't my fault, in hindsight I should of been further back but it really just lunged 40cm or so forward as it banked into the wind in auto landing. As soon as it gets close to the ground you get that uplift - it's in landing mode I literally watched what happened yet was about 1m away and too far to stop it
Yep I agree! In normal circumstances that would be the first thing I did but for some reason my first idea was to try spin the motors to get the water out. As soon as it didn't work after say 15 seconds total the battery was pulled
Dropped my mini 2 in the river yesterday! Made a scream, dashed over and grabbed it, took the battery out right away Shook the drone and the battery. Held it in my hand on the way back the the car so it was still outside and hopefully starting to dry. When I got home took a hair dryer to it. Now it works fine. Haven't tested the battery yet though. Close escape. Next time I'll use the blade protectors, as a small branch took it down.
I'm glad I'm not the only one that thought to put a hairdryer to it also! Seems like you had another good save! It's so easy to do, I do consider myself a bloody good pilot - you only need to look at my other videos to see I can control the drone but when it's in landing mode nothing you can do, gust of wind took it and that's that! Was like slow motion haha
I've heard that if a drone gets wet, put it in a sealed container of rice for a few days, the rice will absorb the moisture. I've never had to try it but it makes sense if you've ever made rice, it absorbs a lot of moisture.
Yeah absolutely, it's a viable option totally but I had that bag already and I thought it's worth a try rather than fishing rice out of it and thankfully it worked
Doesn’t work. If it works afterwards it would have worked whether you put the rice in or not. www.ifixit.com/Wiki/Don%27t_Put_Your_Device_in_Rice._Here%27s_Why...
I would still be worried about corrosion. Even freshwater that is acidic or alkaline(swamp water) can cause corrosion. One a side note, I will be picking up one for those silica gel bags. I didn't even know they existed outside of the little ones that are in about everything you buy that is moisture sensitive.
Yes they do indeed, as I say in the video its technically a car dehumidifier butof course does the same job, so far though it is working ok so I hope it stays that way
Wow that's awesome you are somewhat lucky but who cares. This is why I have both of my drones covered with Care Refresh which probably means that I won't have any issues. Got to love Murphy's Law.
It's crazy isn't it but yes you're right! Just the most simple and unexpected thing happening - perfect set of circumstances but it's all alive and well again
Glad you fixed your drone. Unfortunately i couldn't fix mine. I was flying my Mini 2 indoors with propeller guards on and it got caught up and fell approx 4ft onto concrete floor. Since then the gimbal isn't working. It's stuck. So I have just contacted DJI Refresh and it's now on it's way to The Netherlands via UPS. Now there lies another issue. BREXIT. I got an email from DJI with a UPS shipping label plus 3 invoices that have to be signed and dated. So I boxed up the Mini 2 with propellers on as that was all they required and on back of package I stuck a zip lock clear bag with the 3 copies of the invoice as required for customs. This was then sent to my local UPS shop and they scanned the package and asked whether I had the 3 copies of invoices I said yes they're attached on back of box. I have been keeping track of the shipment and it has gone from Manchester to Tamworth with no issues but now it's arrived at the customs depot in Stanford Le Hope. Now it says it's being delayed due to a missing commercial invoice ? What's that about. Hopefully it will get to the Netherlands then DJI can send me my new drone. But all this issues with customs is going to be a problem now we left Europe. I wonder if anyone else has had similar issues. Having just watched your video I think it would be a great idea to get insurance directly in the UK. Then you won't need to worry about all the new paperwork needed for customs to the Europe.
Plus it covers more does coverdrone ! It gives public liability insurance also and if you do get a flyaway you don't need to pay £209! Yeah well I work in shipping and I deal with customs formalities for ships and cargo so trust me I know exactly what you mean, ups and other couriers can be a nightmare and what happens is as your parcel goes different places people take those invoices out and they don't always go back! I hope you get it to them asap and get her back to you !
Gavin , I think you are Lucky , I'm hoping for some Luck right now too cause Mine was lost for about five months and yesterday it was given to me by the Cleaning Lady that works at the house where it apparently Crashed ! GPS was putting me off by about 40 feet , so I had no idea that it would be on the Roof of that house cause if I'm at a certain spot , the GPS has me right on top of it and the minute I move away , the thing is showing that I'm moving away from it , I had no idea that it was on that Roof , I looked a couple times as I went looking for it about two times before but I was obviously on the ground so I wouldn't be able to get a really good look but never had the feeling that it was up there ! Man , i was Ripping that thing in Sport Mode and was too low as i was heading to the Upper Part of the High Ground at 300- from my house and it hit hard into the Roof of that house ! Anyways , that thing was on the Roof of that house and we had so much Rain down here for the better part of those Months and actually , still getting lots of Rain and I might add , Lots of Sun too , so you could imagine what that little Bird went through ? That thing looked like Crap !😮 but I was still happy to see it again , I think it was in the Gutter cause it had lots of black stuff in it and the Top Shell is missing , Color has turned brown from the Sun and I believe it was kinda looking upwards cause the Camera looks a different color in the Lens , Battery was Shocked and Swollen and halfway out of the Drone , thus the reason why I couldn't use the Find-Me Feature that night , that was the last good Battery I had , so the Test I did with a pair of 18650 Cells gave me the power I needed to just see if it would do anything and guess what ? IT POWERS-UP AND GIVES THE TONE !!!!😮 Hahaaa 😊 the only thing I'm seeing and just hoping for , is that the Blurry Camera View would be Sorted when the Real and Right Battery is Installed cause all of the Battery Terminals on the Drone would then be Connected , three Batteries are on Order right now along with all the other parts I need to fix my other two mini-2's .😊 Glad yours is working !Take Care Gavin !!!!😊
Ha ha! Same thing happened to me landing on my sundial... onto concrete. So... will Coverdrone still cover your drone? Good effort on the recovery 👍 Last time I was here this early, there was still a naval artillery battery on that emplacement.
Or ze Germans overhead looking for Hull docks to bomb! Absolutely so simple to do, I don't even consider it a mistake as such I landed plenty away but as I say the wind caught it in landing mode along with the uplift from being at ground level it just lunged forward ! Least it's saved ... !!
Legit mine hit the water today. I will be doing what I can. It’s already dry imo but im going to wait another 24 hours before I test to see if things work.
@@GAVINHR I get a “Power system Hardware error” when it’s powered on. So I do not have a chance to test the motors on it. Everything else on preflight checklist is a go. Any advice?
Here's a trick I learn when I lived in Japan, use rice, that's right use raw rice, it works well with cellphones so I'm sure it will work on the drone. Put your mini 2 in a large bag, cover it with the rice, the rice will draw out the moisture, in about 2 or 3 days all the moisture should be gone.
Totally! All that space, choose to land it close to me, in landing mode and when it got close to the ground went light wind blew it 40cm or so forward, off the ledge and into the drink 🤷 in landing mode there's no control those last few seconds so I was a passenger sadly! Ah well all fixed !
@@GAVINHR Seriously man, you think that's embarrassing. I remember years ago trying to do a cinematic sweep past me with my old Phantom ......I flew straight in to the back of my head and nearly knocked myself over the cliffs of Mother 😂 Now that was embarrassing, and very painful 🤦🏼♂️
Indeed but seemingly it was just one of those things, if if of crashed into the sea I'd naturally think twice I guess but it happened when landing, should take into account next time that in those final few seconds in landing mode you have no control and can be flown off course! Thankfully a save in the end
Did you ever figure out which components were giving you trouble? Was there a way to order a few parts to fix it?
Your alrdy damage the motherboard
From experience as used to work in a hifi repair shop many years ago in the 90's most water damage is caused by not removing batteries quickly from electrolysis eating the copper away so lucky you did the right things in time and good advice!
Well done Gavin
Having been a model flyer for many years I feel I should let you know it’s always best practice to turn on your Transmitter before you turn on the model.
I crashed mine into a waterfall a couple days ago, do you think it's worth going back and trying to get it or is it not worth to?
Thats brill and good advice take it on a disrance when its nice
Its something we would have dun in barnsley not giving up and trying wat you have worst thing it would be caput
If you havent a silicon bag pound kand or pound stretcher did little bags to hang in a wardrobe for condensation in caravans or home £1
So try that as well all ideas are options to try if you are in this situation and help others the accident just shows how easy it is to crash and wen on river banks may be land your home position from take off manually a liittle further away from river or pond if its windy
Thanks fir sharing gavin
You Wally!! Lesson learnt there. Good to see you didn't give up on it.
Absolutely! Just one of those things wasn't it, 2cm further back and it wouldn't of happened, just shows how easy an accident happens! Whilst in auto landing mode wind just took it forward nothing I could do, I was determined to get it going haha
Lol mate did UAV say 10mph winds but 100mph when landing drones?
UAV is absolutely crap! Once told me it was 99% could cover and raining .... I could of looked like David Dickinson and had a BBQ
Yes battery out quick.
In my experience with brushless motors water doesn’t effect them much. But never hurts to keep them dry. You did great .
Thank you kindly! Yeah I didn't have that experience so I just did what I thought best 🙂
i am so pleased for you gavin,,,,,must have been a long 24hrs wait,,,,,well done bud
It really was Barry I can assure you! And the walk back to the car and drive home kicking myself for not landing s bit further back!
Same embarrasing moment here. Will vlog my moment soon.
Quick question, are you still using the submerged battery for flights?
Hi there, Yes I still use that battery and it has never suffered any problems, just tried the full thing out and it fly's like nothing ever happened
What a relief. Congratulations man!
Very relieved! Thank you
At approximately 13:50 you mentioned the battery👍something no one that I know of has mentioned. How did you save the battery please?
Hi there! my battery was just fine!
Is it okay now?
i fly dji mavic mini many time in rain and snow and any problem or error
Yes, as you drop the throttle stick, you have no control...Something that did occur to me when I first experienced it..Great that you have shown others the hazards, pleased you dried her out. 😳😀🇬🇧
Totally! Mate!
Congratulations I'm so happy to see that you're drone is still functioning fly safe
Thank you very much! Indeed I certainly will be more careful in future
hi there, ive recently dropped my drone in sea water. when i picked it out of the water, it started smoking and i disconnected, took out the battery and looks like mother board is heavily damaged and the battery can no longer be used as its damaged too. i want to buy dji care but i dont think theyll accept my situation. Do you have any suggestion you can give me? is my drone fixable? looking forward to your reply.
thanks
I'm so pleased that you saved her, nothing worse than losing a cherished member of the family.
Absolutely David! Such a basic and simple accident! Just shows that you need to be careful as in auto landing mode for those couple of seconds you have no control
Phew! What a lucky boy you are, Gavin. Glad you managed to save your drone. Stay safe! Ian :-)
Thanks Ian! you too mate!
I did the same with my Mini 3 when I flew it into a river. It still flies perfectly but it might be different if it had gone into the sea.
If water stop the motor, is it not safe flying in raining day?
It was a completely dry day :)
Phew, that's a relief, well done for a positive outcome.
Thank you!! Lucky save from such a simple thing to happen!
Glad you got sorted. As for me, i never ever fly in windy conditions. Thanks for sharing.👍
That should not happen at all
Great save Gavin! Good thinking to use a dehumidifier, I will definitely remember this if I somehow end up in a similar prediciment.
Absolutely ! I mean I knew the comments section would tell me I did something wrong but in hindsight at the time you just do what you can to save the drone eh!
Im glad you got it working. Good vid!
Thank you very kindly
Sorry for the delay! how did it go? did it work?
Take care and keep flying, as we'll keep watching. ;-)
Thanks Carlos! Appreciate that, just shows something so simple can happen and that last few seconds when it's landing there is nothing you can do !
I'm glad that's still working ! Mine was crashed at the sea for over 20 mins underwater yesterday. I hope my drone could still retrieve 🥺 waiting for 2 more days to dry it out
How did it go?
Did your drone work?
Sob sob.
May I recommend this drone
SwellPro Spry+ V2 Waterproof Drone
🙄 😉 🙄😉🤔
No need mate! Seems mine can swim ! 😂😂😂
I think you did the best thing putting it in the bag with the dehumidifier, accidents happen mate glad you have it working again!! 😊👍
Thanks mate! The thing is, it was technically landed! And I was nowhere near the edge, but that gust just tilted the drone on landing and as it went light with the uplift near the ground it just landed a good 30 / 40cm forward. Was practically in slow motion but I was about 2m away and couldn't stop it
@@GAVINHR well least its not in the humber mate haha! Not that that's a laughing mater main thing is she's working good as new 😉👍
@@djidroneproductions1309 honestly at the time I was kicking myself at such a stupid thing ! Like 2cm further back it wouldn't of gone over but then I did start off well clear

Congratulations in staying calm and saving this wet bird... well done!
Thank you very much! Lives to fly another day
today I bought the mini 2 and this happened to me. 😓😰😰 I dont have silica tho
Try the dryer on a low setting and try get as much water out. Any warm cupboard may help if you don't have the silica. Just wait 24 / 48 hours before you turn it on! Make sure it's totally dry!
Oh bugger sorry to hear that mate.
If you download the new app v1.2.5 it will dry it out for you and keep,it waterproof!
😂😂😂 so that's where I'm going wrong ! 👌👌 God I just almost died from laughing and not being able to breathe. I'll fly out in sport mode as that gets me a quicker disconnection next time I think.
Actually, v1.2.5 doesn't work, v1.2.9 is supposed to work ...... on the bright side, coffee is not supposed to come out your nose
Ahh nice Chris! Honestly I'm amazed what DJI can do with simple app updates these days 😂👌

Thank you kindly!
Nice on Gavin saved yourself bit of time without you drone
Indeed mate! Back to filming !
Fantastic, I don't think there is a right or wrong way only your gut feeling, but hey RESULT!!!
Good job getting it quickly dry and agree silica gel in a bag overnight is a much better proposition than leaving it in rice and having all the hassle of picking out all those grains of rice from the motors and other small openings in the Mini 2!
Glad you got it sorted, flying over water is always a heart thumping experience for me personally. 😯😊
Sorry mate I missed this! I know right? utterly incredible - and out of my control also when the drone is landing those last few seconds there is no control, well as you say at least it works. I had the bag so indeed it made sense, it can be wet from leaving it in a cold room overnight so I knew it would do the job! hope you're keeping well
Welcome 🤗😁 glad you save the drone
Me too!!
Now this guy can be judgmental and annoying to listen to, but he knows what he's talking about.

glad it works. It's good to share bad luck stories, as it will hopefully help others from doing it. Very surprised you would not land in the middle of the concrete structure though!
Complacency, it's as simple as that I take off and land from here a hell of a lot so I was probably a bit too confident basically!
@@GAVINHR I totally get it, confidence is a double edged sword.
🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽I know the feeling! Glad so far so good🙌🏽‼️‼️
Thank you mate!
Good to see you saved the drone and tips for us all should we have a similar situation. Think it will make me a little more careful of surrounding landing and take of sites . To easy to get consumed by people buildings telephone lines etc and over look something such as standing water nearby !!!! 👍
Absolutely! Maybe in future if it's windy I will take extra precautions when landing! Thanks for watching
My dji mini 2 lost signal and landed in the river, so I jumped in after it but took me a good 10mins to find it, it turns on but the gimbal isn't working. Anyone got any ideas please?
Let it dry out properly first, needs s good 24/48 hours
Refresh program is a must.
Greetings from Cyprus Gavin. Thanks for a great video as usual mate. Obviously the lesson learned here is check your surroundings, especially your take-off/ landing zone. Nice save of your DJI Mini 2, but lucky that puddle wasn't salt water! Cheers.
Lucky mate could have bern right off but i guess you get them free?
No mate ! Every single bit of equipment I use is bought by myself with my own money - if anybody ever sends me things to try I mention it in the video like the strobe light holders. It costs me a fair bit to do all the stuff I do haha!
Victory! Good work 👌
Also 1.2.5 is in the appstore now. Only found out after flying earlier so haven’t tested yet, wasn’t really having the problems mentioned by others anyway though.
Yeah I think it's iOS only this one isn't it?
@@GAVINHR Hmm, good point. I assumed that it would roll out to Android too, as a whole bunch of people seemed to have disconnection problems like you mentioned before. Curious if you end up getting one of those in app update notifications!
Yeah that will be the way it is delivered now I imagine via Android as I don't think the iOS version has that self update facility yet
Partial water damage, very lucky indeed, I think its game over if the gimbal gets water ingress, hope she keeps flying well
Indeed certainly lucky! Me too me too!
@@GAVINHR Cheers again gavin, evasive flying,

Haha absolutely!
Haha you lucky guy, well done on the drying out method , as you say you can control the drone but not the elements , keep up the great videos.
Thanks John, exactly, can't really prepare for a gust when it's in landing mode can you, I thought I was far enough away, I wasn't but managed to love to fly another day
Well done matey so glad its all ok.
Thanks man! Totally out of my control, hindsight I could of landed further back but I was well away from it, wind combined with the uplift from being close to the ground..just flew forwards 40cm or so and off the edge it went!
What a bad stroke of luck! Glad its up and running!!!
Absolutely! Totally unforseen, hindsite I could of landed it further back but I wasn't expecting a gust of wind to blow it a good 40cm forward whist it was in landing mode ! Least it all worked out
That’s why I tend to hand catch 90% of the time particularly like today with 30mph gusts no way that would land without difficulty
Glad you were able to dry it out.
Thanks Robert!
Work for deerc
Yes Gavin you described it exactly what I experienced! Before I took off I got a warning saying no gps , and no connection to aircraft, the battery only had two lights on so I changed the battery and as I haven’t flown for a while that battery only had two lights on, so as I wasn’t going to go to far I thought that’ll be ok for what I want! My latest update I think is something like 1.?. 2, is there a 4? As I saw a video with problems using the 1.?.4 am I correct on that ? It was posted by your pal Henrik Olsen I believe.
Yes David 1.2.4 is the latest for android or 1.2.5 for iOS now, only stability updates. it was quite horrible when it happened just hovering I could see it but not control it
I'm very pleased for you. Well done.
Thank you kindly :)
I just did the same thing. Only difference is I had DJI Refresh. Now I have a new drone. DJI honored their warranty even with operator error. Thanks DJI!
Yeah fair play to them for looking after you Steve! Glad you had a great experience!
I have been there I had crashed my mini 2 in a small stream of water and drone was completely submerged in front of my eyes and I had done the same steps n kept my drone in a closed box with silica gel for 2days fingers crossed now it's working
Wicked video mate
I’m so glad you didn’t do the rice option. It’s a myth and doesn’t work. If someone does it and it works afterwards it’s merely coincidental. I’d have got loose water out, and then placed it on a radiator or airing cupboard. The silica gel is the best way to draw out any moisture also.
Absolutely, my feeling behind the hairdryer was to blow out as much standing water as possible hence also using the car blowers once I got to it :) but yeah I had that silica gel bag already so to me it made sense! Thanks for watching
Crashed my drone into the river and tried your remedy OMG I'm flying again Gav thanks
That's absolutely brilliant news!! I'm glad you found it helpful and it's all working

Let's hope you don't! Literally just the wind man!! As soon as it got close to the ground with the ground effect the drone just went light as it does in those final few CM's above ground, totally in landing mode so no control and the wind just blew it forward and off the edge ! Crazy eh!
Luckier than I was after my Mavic Air ended up in Lancaster canal - got everything working again except the camera :(
Awww noooo! Sorry you could not save it my friend! What happened?
As soon as it gets close to the ground you get that uplift - it's in landing mode I literally watched what happened yet was about 1m away and too far to stop it
I haven't finished watching the video yet but I'm cutting into say the first thing you should do power it down and remove the battery of immediately
Use contact cleaner to clean and prevent oxidation
good tip
BAPTISM COMPLETED.....GLAD YOU HAD FAITH IN YOUR TECHNIQUE....Now back to PILOT CONFIRMATION and COMMUNION. Cheers!!
Absolutely and 100% man, I had faith I was taking the right actions, they may be different to others but it worked 👌

I'll let you know how I get on. I will consider buying Coverdrone when my DJI Refresh ends.
They just probably needed to be dryed out....
The quad is quite capable and can withstand SOME water
IF i drove to the place i would have gone straight to my car but the drone on the floor, of the car start the car and but heater on to dry it out.
Pretty much what I did, had the car blowers pointing to the drone on the seat the whole journey home
Good effort on the recovery 👍
Last time I was here this early, there was still a naval artillery battery on that emplacement.
Or ze Germans overhead looking for Hull docks to bomb! Absolutely so simple to do, I don't even consider it a mistake as such I landed plenty away but as I say the wind caught it in landing mode along with the uplift from being at ground level it just lunged forward ! Least it's saved ... !!
Wow! How true is this?
Legit mine hit the water today. I will be doing what I can. It’s already dry imo but im going to wait another 24 hours before I test to see if things work.
Let me know how you get on!
@@GAVINHR I get a “Power system Hardware error” when it’s powered on. So I do not have a chance to test the motors on it. Everything else on preflight checklist is a go. Any advice?
He's so upset that he didn't centered himself in the frame :(
Here's a trick I learn when I lived in Japan, use rice, that's right use raw rice, it works well with cellphones so I'm sure it will work on the drone.
Put your mini 2 in a large bag, cover it with the rice, the rice will draw out the moisture, in about 2 or 3 days all the moisture should be gone.
Does your Mini 2 still work well even now?
Yep works perfect
This is the definition of a brain fart .... we've all done it 😆. I'm glad you got it fixed
My friends drone fell in the water before, I put it in an airfryer for an hour at 100 degrees F
I assume it worked after?
@@GAVINHR Oh yeah. I guess I should have mentioned that 😅
Hahaha yes you missed that little bit! Good work!
this is why I have not gone over my sea yet I rather go down in the sand so just going along the sand.
Indeed but seemingly it was just one of those things, if if of crashed into the sea I'd naturally think twice I guess but it happened when landing, should take into account next time that in those final few seconds in landing mode you have no control and can be flown off course! Thankfully a save in the end
@@GAVINHR sorry it went in to so little water but least you got it back and not in the sea.
Totally! I was lucky I think
I just put my drone in rice… let’s see if works
I hope so!
