ethanol in this case but I believe any alcohol as long it is very highly concentrated is fine. I never go under 70%, when trying to recover electronics. Generally the higher the concentration the better and with that the change for a successful recovery. Good luck and thanks for enjoying my channel! Have a good rest of the day 👍🏻🙃
Hope it helps! In my experience the highest concentration of alcohol, at least around 70-80% has the best chance to have a succesful recovery. Isopropyl alcohol is an option worth trying! Good luck and Merry Christmas! 🎅🏻🎄
I tried that once and it worked fine in my case. Just make sure the alcohol concentration is as high as possible and that the electrics are well dried out after the process. Then you have the highest chance for recovery. Good luck and have a good rest of the day.
hi guys ive fvcked up like most of you probably and my mini 3 pro landed into sea water because of the forced landing and I somehow managed to find it after like 3 minutes. What should I do? I took out the battery and let it dry for some hours, what should I do now?
Thry the procedure I show. That gives you the best chance for recovery. Alcohol at high as possible. At least 70% Then let it dry out and use new batteries. Dispose the once submerged in water.
6 months, is it still working? No wobbly flights? Uhm, about the drone. After I flew mine, it had solid droplets form inside, like small little droplets that were hard (I think this was rest water). Any tips?I'm thinking about doing an alcoholic bath cause there seems to be a bit off rust forming. How do I open it up (which ones to remove)? Also, do I just leave it there for 15 minutes? Others said that it's better to soak and brush. If so, how long should I soak it if I brush it? Still 15 minutes?
Yes, mine is fine!! No corrosion or any other issues visible. It flys fine! Well, it gets increasingly difficult over time if the electronics were not cleaned immediately. However, I would try, there is not much to loose. I think doing a longer bath might be better letting the alcohol do its cleaning job. I personally don’t like brushing since that can damage the electronics. The body is clipped together. You will have to work your way carefully around since the plastic is quite thin. In your case you also can try to do this without dissembling, just doing a long bath over night. Then drying it out for several days. I personally would say at least a week. Good luck and let me know how it went! 👍🏻
My drone fell in the sea for about half a minute I wiped some of the touch points like the battery connection, gimbal with rubbing alcohol and after about 10-15 days I connected a new battery and started it, it did start but one of the propellers got heated instantly so I removed the battery immediately and there was a smell of burnt electronics, Should I wash it with fresh water because there are salt deposits inside the drone or should I keep it in rubbing alcohol?
Thank you for your comment! Well, best chance is giving it an alcoholic bath right away. The battery I would never use since this is a higher risk for something to go wrong. I am afraid in your case the electronics might be damaged due to the salt water residuals which were not washed carefully off. You could try to do the alcohol bath cleaning but I think there chances might be slim at this point. Take caution even if it flies since components might not work reliably. Good luck and have a great day!!! 🤙🏻🙃

Uh, I tried to look it up bu also could not find anything. Maybe it is better if you shoot a message to DJI support. In case you have water damage it only can mean that your electronics are already damages in some way. Unfortunately the change for recovery is then not very good without difficult repairs. Good luck and have a good day!
Hi this is a follow up message to my mavic mini’s water damage. Today I started my drone it works totally fine! Also my mavic mini and mini2 both these drones are drifting to backwards without any movement.
@@NishanthGM Great they work. If they drift without any stick input make sure that your hone point setting and GPS visibility is fine. Also you can try to recalibrate the aircraft.
yes, but actually only the battery is different! DJI is shaving off a few grams and the battery has slightly less capacity. They stopped doing that with the Mini 2.
@@cinemaxdrone7658 nope, in real world flying about 20% less flight time than the standard battery pack. As a flying camera drone I am now using the DJI mini 2 and that getting me about 20 to 30 min. But that time can drop quite even in only mild wind conditions.
Crashed mine in fresh water 2 feet from the ground... How lucky! I got it out the water but I did not know what to do so I took off the battery as soon as possible. Now it is sitting in a bowl of rice since 24h but my question is : if it manages to come back to life, should I bath it in rubbing alcohol anyway too? Or it's too late? I'm thinking about corrosion here... does drying it in rice suficient or should I use alcohol and do the drying process again? Thanks alot, your video gives me hope so my mini works again!
sorry to hear that happened to you!!! Well, my choice is usually doing an over 70% alcohol bath before letting it sit and dry. If you skip the alcoholic bath it is easier for water to still hide somewhere. Good Luck and hope you can bring it back to life.
Hi! Your video is really very good! I already leaved my like it and it is my last attempt and hope to get my drone working again. My drone - mini 2 - felt into the sea while I was traveling and I still haven't found your video. He was in salt water for less than 1 minute and immediately the battery and memory card were removed, which are working perfectly, and he was given a bath of drinking water and then 4 days inside a sealed pot with rice. Then it came to turned on once time bur with scare of something I turned off and the he didn't worked no more. Since this, It doesn't recognize the battery, but if you plug it into the power, it recognizes the electrical current, bur not charge the battery, so I can't turn it on. Now that I have returned to my country, more than 1 month after the incident, today, after see your video I started bathing him in alcohol 70%. How long bath time do you think might be enough in this case (more than one month after then incidente)? I've read that it takes about a week to dry.
Well, electronics can work for some time after being in touch with salt water. The problem is that corrosion is licking in depending on the conditions within a few days after. Once this happens it is a bit late for the alcoholic bath. You can still try now but the key is to do this immediately after it was in the water before the corrosion and damage is done. Good luck trying and happy flying! 🤙🏻😊
First reaction if that happen is to remove the battery and rinse it with fresh water if it fell onto salty water. Then distilled water if isopropanol is not available, and then and isopropanol bath when available. And if course not trying to start it in between. Best to wait a few days after the alcohol bath to make sure everything is dry.
Correct you can do it like that. I usually skip step 1 and 2 and go right for the alcohol bath. If it salt water was involved I do the alcohol bath multiple times, with fresh uncontaminated alcohol. To my experience I have the best chance for recovery the electronics that way.
@@MattShonan yes, I would also go to alcohol directly, but it's often not available, so it's best to rinse it fast with distilled water and do the alcohol bath as soon as possible 🙂
Really sorry to hear that! Well it is unfortunate but if the power was not cut quick enough after it was submerged in water, it is always a high risk to have permanent damage to the electronics. At least this is a way trying to recover the electronics but we also need some luck and it does not guarantee to recover that was submerged 100% all the time, Just keep this method in mind and when trying next time you might be in luck. Key is always to cut the power as quick as possible after the accident! Have a good day!
@@jubencarmelmembreve6735 Yes, that is very well possible. Before spending money trouble shooting, I always keep my cost in mind. You can try starting to replace parts. I do that a lot. Just sometimes this can be an expensive process and replacing it can be the more budget friendly option.

@@daninyeki8601 well, you gave it a try! 👍🏻But electronics die and do not always recover. I think in your case it might be gone too far already and might be not recoverable. 🥲
hi, I drowned my mini 2, and then I did everything as you describe in the video but it didn't help. after inserting a new or old battery, only two middle dots flashing. please what next?
If electronics drop in to water, still connected to a battery, the chance is high that they get damaged. Key is disconnecting the battery as quick as possible since this increases the chance for recovery. In your case the time from being submerged in water until the quad was then disconnected might have been too long. You can try to dry it out more in case rest liquids are inside. No need to disassemble if you are not comfortable with that. The shell is just clipped on. If you work around the edges carefully, it will come off. The advantage would be that you can dry it out a bit quicker after the alcohol bath. Good luck with the recovery!
Just any would do actually. Ideally isopropyl alcohol. Key is having a concentration of at least 77%. The higher the better and with the concentration the chance of recovery can change.
Just had to stop by and add my story. I have a Mavic Air 2 that unfortunately took a dive into saltwater. It was submerged for maybe a minute no more than 2 minutes. I immeditately rushed home soaked it in isopropyl alcohol completsly assembled. The next day I disassembled down to the motherboard again gave it an alcohol bath this time gently using a toothbrush to clean the boards and left it to dry for a day. Using a new battery she fired right up. I know the future risks but ordered some corrosion X HD and also gonna brush on some conformal coating. Has anyone tried this yet?
@@spicygaming8779 Important is that you disconnect all batteries and power sources. If your device was submerged in water and does not work, this is a chance for you to recover. If this does not work you still can replace it. But maybe you don’t need to and can recover. I am not sure what you mean by “safe”. At least for my experience over the last years I have sometimes really good results like in this care here. Of course there is no guarantee and every case is different. One key is how quick you disconnected the power after it was submerged. If that time was too long it might be damaged and impossible to recover. Good luck and have a good day!
@@MattShonan I mean is it ok to drown the drone in the alcohol or it'll damage it Ok whatever i already know that we need to remove all power sources after if an electronic device submerged in water it's basic!

Did you use ethanol or isopropyl?
ethanol in this case but I believe any alcohol as long it is very highly concentrated is fine.
I never go under 70%, when trying to recover electronics. Generally the higher the concentration the better and with that the change for a successful recovery.
Good luck and thanks for enjoying my channel!
Have a good rest of the day 👍🏻🙃
First off thanks for this informational video 🙏. Which alcohol should I get for the alcohol bath?
Hope it helps! In my experience the highest concentration of alcohol, at least around 70-80% has the best chance to have a succesful recovery.
Isopropyl alcohol is an option worth trying!
Good luck and Merry Christmas! 🎅🏻🎄
@@MattShonan thanks so much and Merry Christmas🎄 to you as well!
Can I use isopropyl alcohol to soak mine?
I tried that once and it worked fine in my case.
Just make sure the alcohol concentration is as high as possible and that the electrics are well dried out after the process.
Then you have the highest chance for recovery.
Good luck and have a good rest of the day.
how did you dry the drone after put in alcohol ?
Alcohol is not conductive and vaporizes quite quickly. Just let it sit for a bit and all is bone dry.
hi guys ive fvcked up like most of you probably and my mini 3 pro landed into sea water because of the forced landing and I somehow managed to find it after like 3 minutes. What should I do? I took out the battery and let it dry for some hours, what should I do now?
Thry the procedure I show.
That gives you the best chance for recovery.
Alcohol at high as possible. At least 70%
Then let it dry out and use new batteries.
Dispose the once submerged in water.
Had the same problem. 10 mimutea in the sea water. All repaired with this process apart from the camera. Gimbak stuck even if I have done everything.
That is sad but can happen. Hope DJI is taking are of this with their customer support! Have a great day!
Needs ultrasonic cleaning with of course distiled water. Go to an electronic place and the will do it for you
My drone fell in the sea for about half a minute I wiped some of the touch points like the battery connection, gimbal with rubbing alcohol and after about 10-15 days I connected a new battery and started it, it did start but one of the propellers got heated instantly so I removed the battery immediately and there was a smell of burnt electronics, Should I wash it with fresh water because there are salt deposits inside the drone or should I keep it in rubbing alcohol?
Thank you for your comment!
Well, best chance is giving it an alcoholic bath right away.
The battery I would never use since this is a higher risk for something to go wrong.
I am afraid in your case the electronics might be damaged due to the salt water residuals which were not washed carefully off. You could try to do the alcohol bath cleaning but I think there chances might be slim at this point.
Take caution even if it flies since components might not work reliably.
Good luck and have a great day!!! 🤙🏻🙃
@@MattShonan Okay I Have opened the top plastic cover of my DJI Spark and going to give it a Ethanol 99.9% bath as you have mentioned in the video lets hope for the best🤓 fingers crossed
@@KirtiRaj027 Good luck!! 👍🏻
Hi what’s mean by continuous red blinking light and the battery indication light in the drone, out of 4 light only 1st and the last light is on, lights inbeteeen are off..
What’s does that mean ?
@@MattShonan ok sure, I’ll try this and update you
@@NishanthGM Good Luck!!
That is mavic mini japan 199g version?
yes, but actually only the battery is different!
DJI is shaving off a few grams and the battery has slightly less capacity.
They stopped doing that with the Mini 2.
@@MattShonan japan version flight time? 30m??
@@cinemaxdrone7658 nope, in real world flying about 20% less flight time than the standard battery pack.
As a flying camera drone I am now using the DJI mini 2 and that getting me about 20 to 30 min.
But that time can drop quite even in only mild wind conditions.
this might help. Im gonna buy a mini 1 that landed in a pawn.. and uhm maybe this gonna get it back alive. Imma safe this off as help. Thanks
Good luck and happy flying !!! 😊🤙🏻
@@MattShonan alright I will do an alcohol bath to clean up the leftover water. Thanks for everything!
Hope it goes well for you!
Enjoy my upcoming videos and thanks for the support!
@@MattShonan IT'S WORKING! :D thanks alot!
@@AntoniPaquet Perfect!!!
What type of alcohol??
isopropyl over 77% would be ideal
after a successful alcohol bath. i got an error ( unable to take of code 30064) and battery info not showing on dji app. pls help
Really sorry to hear that!
Well it is unfortunate but if the power was not cut quick enough after it was submerged in water, it is always a high risk to have permanent damage to the electronics. At least this is a way trying to recover the electronics but we also need some luck and it does not guarantee to recover that was submerged 100% all the time,
Just keep this method in mind and when trying next time you might be in luck. Key is always to cut the power as quick as possible after the accident!
Have a good day!
@@MattShonan thank you
should i replace my core board is it posible that the main board damaged? my battery indicator is only 2 LED blinking 3,4 light
@@jubencarmelmembreve6735 Yes, that is very well possible. Before spending money trouble shooting, I always keep my cost in mind.
You can try starting to replace parts. I do that a lot. Just sometimes this can be an expensive process and replacing it can be the more budget friendly option.
Hi! What kind of alcohol did you use? Isopropyl was suggested to me, but it is 98%. Ich would prefer at about 70-80% too. How could I produce it? I don’t want to give water to it.
The higher the alcohol % is, the better! It will give you a better chance for recovery. If you have 98% go with that and try. Good luck!
Ok! Thank you! I‘m just afraid that the plastic parts will be damaged from the too strong alcohol
I gave him 15 min. 98% isopropyl alcohol bath and one week drying but it didn’t help him :/. I hear a little noise from the camera-motor. But the airscrews are not turning.. I think I try the process again
I do this dying for many day sometimes weeks to chances.
Thanks gor your support!
Please like and subscribe, that would really help out the channel!

I prefer you take motherboard separa telah and remove the blacktape on back and use that isoprophyl alcohol clean it manually
How high were you above the water when it went down ? planning a flight over water next week
I was above 2m above the surface. We had higher waves that day. Good luck and take care!
Good day. Do i need to disassemble it first? If yes do you have a video tutorial for it thank you so much!
No need to disassemble if you are not comfortable with that.
The shell is just clipped on. If you work around the edges carefully, it will come off.
The advantage would be that you can dry it out a bit quicker after the alcohol bath.
Good luck with the recovery!
@@MattShonan do i need to remove anything from the drone aside from the battery?
the more the better, it will make the cleaning process more efficient
What type of Alcohol?
Did it work? What was the behavior once powering up? I usually let the electronic sit for about a week or 10 days after the alcohol bath.
Not to sound dumb, but is this rubbing alcohol?
Michael Meyer Just regular 77% alcohol anything will do. Best is to get the highest purest alcohol. That would enhance the chance of success.
Ok thanks!
you can get pharmaceutical grade alcohol from a pharmacy. I got one 99% 1L bottle for $12,-
Is it safe to drown it in alcohol?
It is a chance for recovery. It can’t make things worse after submerged in water.
@@MattShonan So, It is safe to drown in alcohol after it submerged in water, Just in case
@@MattShonan I mean is it ok to drown the drone in the alcohol or it'll damage it
Ok whatever i already know that we need to remove all power sources after if an electronic device submerged in water it's basic!
Why did you use alcohol bath?
Alcohol is a not conducting liquid. The bath pushes out all water which is hiding between circuit boards. Also alcohol vaporizes much faster than water would.
That also speeds up the drying process.
Thank you for the detailed explanation.
Assuming you neeeee d to get a new battery
Amir Aly At first it seemed to work fine but then the battery controller was damaged and I could not trust the battery and replaced it.
So with a new battery but was all copacetic?!
@@baba-ganoush ... all well!
What if I left battery in for aboutb1 hour
Only submerged about 1.5 mins
I sprayed my mini with spray paint on the mother board. So its water proof
that is also a good way to protect your electronics. However a dedicated water proofing spray would be even better. 👍🏻
I wouldn't recommend this as it can cause it to overheat
