    There’s a good reason the Andy Griffith Show has never been off the air ever since the very first episode. That’s nearly 60 years. I’ve been watching the entire time. Seen every episode 100 times…but they never get old.

    I think it’s great that Betty Lynn set the record straight and at least called out Aaron Ruben in the writers room over how awful she felt it was that they had Thelma Lou abandon Barney and marry someone else, and in the long run she was right because as she said most of the fans she spoke to over the years told her how much they hated that decision (my parents definitely hated it). But hey, at least she said something at the time. And that’s no slight against Aaron Ruben, he was one of the all time greatest classic TV writers but I also think that this interview and the guests on this segment also reflect how badly he and the writing staff dropped the ball after Don Knotts left. Obviously the show could never be the same without Barney but geez, the best they could do was come up with terrible, dull, unfunny characters like Warren the deputy, Howard Sprague the loser stuffed-shirt momma’s boy and Emmit the fix it guy?? Yeesh. There’s a reason you don’t see those actors featured on most of these retrospectives. Plus the plots overall were more boring, you had Andy’s real life anger issues bleeding into his character when Andy became more cranky and also occasionally rude to Aunt Bee, just bleh. The color episodes are just a downer overall. I also want to say in my opinion George Lindsay would have made a great replacement deputy after Barney left. Also, hearing Hal Smith do his famous Winnie the Pooh voices was fantastic. Great video all around!

      The actor who played Otis before Andy G. worked for a local L.A. TVstudio doing a kids cartoon show. Between cartoons he promoted products, stuff kids would nag Mom and Dad to buy for them. His main sponsor was a new restaurant chain International house of pancakes ( IHOP ). He was always telling kids to tell their parents to go to the place with the bright blue roof. He did it with a funny cartoon type voice. Many of the IHOP places closed, and open with a new name and business. But to this day 60 years later I can't drive by one of the places without thinking of his voice and the place with the bright blue roof.

      Barney was great, but it wasn't just Barney leaving the show that ruined it, the writing, the message, a lot changed once they went to color in season 6. There were several funny shows in black and white where Barney didn't appear that were hilarious; Aunt Bee's Brief Romance, The Family Visit, and Gomer The House Guest, just to name a few.

    Thelma Lou is the only one still alive. 93 years old. god bless her and everybody else from that show. such amazing childhood memories from that show. Andy was like a father figure in my living room for 30 minutes on friday nights and the shows that followed were Star Trek (William Shatner , another father figure) and Dragnet after that before i had to go off to bed. such priceless memories. i feel lucky to have experienced such tv shows and that time period. wish i wasnt the only one still alive from those days. miss everybody, then nowadays when i hear that Earle Hagen whistling tune , i choke up.

    Best half hour of weekly TV that has ever been produced, bar none. To this day ... as I'm flipping channels and can't find something WHOLESOME to make me laugh ... I click to re-runs of the broadcast. If hollyweird was smart, they would come up with a similar type of weekly broadcast, though I doubt that ANY could reach the level that A.G. Show reached. All the characters were awesome, but Barney was my favorite.

    I see quite a few of you younger than 50's commenting. Ralph Emery the host is well known and respected in Nashville. He's old school with respect and honest questioning. Not much in the laugh department as he would rather let the guests take that lead. This is from the show Nashville Now.

      @theaddictedprepper902 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ride To Live Live To Ride I agree...he is old school. I respect him because, he made his 16 year old son get a job to pay for a motorbike that he wrecked. His son was a great kid and was a good worker. That was back in 1984-85 ish.

    Don Knotts took that role and truly owned it. Few supporting characters are that important to a show. Barney won something like 5 Emmys. I loved Andy, too, but if you watch the first few years he was more animated, more country, his character smiled and sang, he was friendly with everyone and gave sage advice. As the show wore on - it’s like he tired of the part and phoned in his performance. He shook his head a lot, and his character was always aggravated at Barney, Aunt Bea, everyone really. I think his transition of acting style is unparalleled. I’ve never seen a character’s personality change that much. I was surprised to hear - from Andy himself in interviews - admit that Francis Bouvier (Aunt Bea) couldn’t stand him. He said they fought a lot. Can you imagine screaming at “Ain’t Bea”? Lol.

      Ralph interviewed me and my son many years ago out of the audience on his show. Ralph is a great interviewer and a great human being. He's probably interviewed more country music singers than anyone alive. He had an all-night radio show on WSM for many years. Ralph is one of a kind.

    Betty Lynn was rhe last cast member to pass. She nrver changed. Always tge sweetest thung in two feet!
    FRANCIS B. (Aunt Bee) was not the person she portrayed on the show. She was cruel am mean hearted. She died alone. Just before she passed she called Andy Griffith abd made Pease with him. She left everything to Siler City where she took up residence adter the show.
