Don Knotts had such a unique gift as a comedian. I loved watching him as Deputy Barney Fife on the Andy Griffith Show. NO ONE COULD HAVE DONE THAT CHARACTER BETTER!!
Knotts signed for 5 years to do the Griffith show and had 3 Emmys.... , and Griffith none.. A.G. was really the real life persona of "Face in The Crowd....." AG did not like to be overshadowed and Knotts contract was 'Not" extended. Knotts teaming with Conway and 3s Company kept him afloat and excellence....
@ridgerunner5772 I'm Lynette Palecek. You're wrong about Don Knotts. He quit "The Andy Griffith Show" because he wanted to spend more time with his son. His son was born in 1954 and doing the show caused him to not spend enough time with him.
Pure gold! Don Knotts was a natural talent. Another American icon has gone away to the ages. May he rest in peace. The world seems a little more out of place now as he and other icons left us with a void that cant be filled.
Don Knotts was the best.No one could reel you in the way he did.He will always be number one in my book! I never saw this before and thanks for posting.Having been born in the 1950's I was the fortunate one to have experienced the great ones.
It's a shame the TV studios don't put entire old shows online for the public to enjoy. They're so old that they aren't going to make money for the networks, but these are works of art and should be appreciated.
That Mr. Limpit. Always had me laughing and smiling. What strength of ego he had to play the parts he did. Always liked the story on how good buddies Knots and Andy really were.
Simpler times and entertainment was not only classy but relatable. Not a day goes by I don't wish I could go back to the good ole days. Can you imagine how much less problems, and sadness would be in our country/world today if we could get back to the simple values.... Miss this wonderful generation and the simple values they brought. How blessed we are to have had them.
He was known as an amazing comic when he was alive so I don't think underrated is really the right word. Maybe for young people who don't know anything about television history
I've always found Dean funnier and more enjoyable than Jerry for so many reasons - not the least of which being that Dean seemed to enjoy other people's humor so much, whereas Jerry seemingly always wanted to be the funniest person in the room.
Also Dean relies more on his laid back charisma. All respect to Jerry but he is always playing a sort of over the top character who is easily dated while Dean is naturally that one cool guy who you may even know still. Dean got lucky and fell into the position of being typecasted as himself, and he was lucky enough to have a personality which is timelessly likable. I'm not saying Dean wasn't talented, but success is arguably more about being lucky to be the right person in the right place - and Dean has a way of being such a likable character that he's always the right person, and atleast from a retroperspective he's always been lucky enough to be put in the right place.
As a youngster I found Jerry to be the funniest person in the room and could have been paired up with any singer to still be successful as he was after the team broke up. Though Dean had great and fun-loving sense of humor as well and was well loved. He also seemed to have a big heart.
Agreed! Dean had magnificent timing and was the master of the adlib. In fact Jerry Lewis was notorious for stealing his adlibs on the Martin and Lewis Show. One of the greatest straight men, and the funniest guy in the Rat Pack.
I was born in the late 90's, but man, entertainment just looks so much more enjoyable and elegant back then. Sort of feel like I was born in the wrong year. :c
More elegant, absolutely! Things started going downhill when Johnny Carson moved the Tonight Show to California. Glad at least Colbert is still in NYC.
Exuvium97 .. you should look ALL of these guys up on TH-cam..Frank Sinatra Dean Martin Don Knotts but also the Rat Pack videos etc. It is a wonderful thing to know all if the stars that came before the ones we see now days! You will Love it
Don Knotts has the nicest headstone I've ever seen. Very respectful to his career without being gaudy. He was a true comic genius. The only time I ever heard my father laugh was when he was watching Don Knotts on "The Andy Griffith Show"
We had a lot of shows back in the good old days. Don is just hilarious, I can just laughlooking before he speaks. Loved this with Dean (he is the coolest) and Don Knotts.. Wish we had shows like that today. All we have are talk shows, Chef's shows - how toprepare foods, and one channel is re-modeling homes (old ones) for people to buy. I don't like to cook, past remodeling my house, so what is left, Thank goodness forYOU TUBE!!!!! We can pull these older shows up that were so fantastic!!!!!!!
This was my generation and I am proud! We had Frank, Sammy, Dean, Elvis, Bobby, and many more. Today we have Snoopy, and such. Sure glad I am from a different but better era.
When, this was probaly a one time gimmick by CBS to promote the new in 1960 with the established. It was also a good play on Don's persona, somewhat like Jerry, not as cool as Dean or Frank.
That was hysterical! Dean Martin is so underrated as a straight man and I think it's because he's so handsome. He had it all, beautiful voice, wit, charisma. I wonder what he would have been like in a dramatic role.
Allen Woodall Only a few channels and everything on it was great and worth watching. TV was a family affair that actually brought people together in the evenings.
Allen Woodall mr Martin was just a singer who got famous thorough J Lewis but very funny. All they knew was smoking , drinking and women NOT A GOOD WAY TO LIVE..after a person gets hook on that .
I think Don was improvising in 6:17 because of Dean's reaction...Then again they used to say that Dean never went to rehearsals so it could've still caught him off guard lol!
+Special Fart ... big part of Dean's show he didn't like to rehearse anything. He show up for the show and his director Greg Greggison would walk him though it. That as much of rehearsal he got for most of the skits. Music number with guest... he got 3 cassette each week. According to a interview I heard of his. He kept 1 in his car, one at home and one in his golf cart. He would sing with the tapes so he would know the songs. This is what make his show so much fun to watch was you never know when he was going to lose it completely. His producer/Director said sometime they would put things on the clue cards misspelled or something just to caught his reaction to it. Either way with this skit I sure Dean was caught off guard, him losing it was just the coolest easy going guy that ever lived.
Dean I love you all you need to sing to me and thats a liee because that's would make me what moure get me I love your Homer and charming you not to mention looks to make girl needs week days gone by not forgotten
Don Knotts had such a unique gift as a comedian. I loved watching him as Deputy Barney Fife on the Andy Griffith Show. NO ONE COULD HAVE DONE THAT CHARACTER BETTER!!
He created that character.
@@Djm8520 Yes, he did.
yes me too, he is an amazing actor. still even in heaven. hope i see him up there if i make it up there.

I could watch these for hours. This comedy is so much better than what's on today. Dean and Don didn't have to be vulgar to get a laugh.
Knotts was truly gifted.
Great comment
👍I a Davis also .
Amen, brother.
I certainly have a notion to second THAT emotion !!
I miss Don Knots. He was a real favorite.
Laughed until I cried. Wish we had comedy like this now.
I know what you mean ! Most so-called "comics" today think they have to be vulgar & use profanity and/or graphic sexual innuendo to get a laugh. 😞
Don Knotts was in a class all by himself! Greatest comic talent of any generation!
I'VE LOVED DON KNOTTS SINCE CHILDHOOD ON ANDY...GREAT MAN...GREAT PERFORMER!
Don Knotts - what a treasure he was. RIP Don.
Pure gold! Don Knotts was a natural talent. Another American icon has gone away to the ages. May he rest in peace. The world seems a little more out of place now as he and other icons left us with a void that cant be filled.
I Love Don Knotts, he’s funny in everything he does! 💕
Dino and Don, so funny! The ending is so well choreographed: Don's pratfall, Dino picking him up, getting the last line in. Genius!
I heartily concur !
Don Knotts was the best.No one could reel you in the way he did.He will always be number one in my book! I never saw this before and thanks for posting.Having been born in the 1950's I was the fortunate one to have experienced the great ones.
Don Knotts, what a talented guy.
What a great comedic talent he was!
I agree 100 per cent !!
my god this blows away anything on tv today
That was real comedy. Don Knotts was seriously underrated.
Yes
Oh, what I wouldn't give to have this type of true comedic TV again!
Thanks TH-cam and Jeffcdo for posting this.
"I don't speak Italian." The best. I actually LOL'ed.
It's a shame the TV studios don't put entire old shows online for the public to enjoy. They're so old that they aren't going to make money for the networks, but these are works of art and should be appreciated.
Never seen this before...wow the good old days
5:42-5:56--Dean's laughing so hard at Don he can't even talk! Love it!
Don Knotts...a class act. Thanks for sharing this clip.
Don Knotts could do anything! His was a unique talent all of it self. Loveable and adorable!
That Mr. Limpit. Always had me laughing and smiling. What strength of ego he had to play the parts he did. Always liked the story on how good buddies Knots and Andy really were.
Don Knotts was the man!
Thank you for posting this :)
Dean is amazing! I always preferred him to the others in the rat pack. He is the funniest guy ever!
Have always liked Dean’s voice the best. Sinatra is very good but Dino just has a velvet tone that I love to listen to.
Dean was why the rat pack was even thought of or even started
I like Dino but Sammy is my favorite Rat Packer.
Dino really hit his stride in the 60's with hit movies and tv shows. He was one the greatest entertainers.
And considering that he never rehearsed (he did not believe in rehearsing)
+Ced Cole ... on top of that Dean couldn't even read a single music note.
Did a lot of Vegas dates too. Guy was amazing.
Eagles
To hear Dino sing on his first few albums via HiFi stereo is to appreciate his unique beautiful voice. Absolute perfection.
Dean & Don should have teamed up in movies. There is chemistry here.
+Jim C There sure is!!!!!
Guess that proves how genius Dean was as a straight guy :D
Do you mean the booze? LOL
I would have liked them together much more than Martin & Lewis (I never found Jerry funny).
YES !!

Because Dean was suppose to be the straight man off of Jerry... straight men have to have perfect comedic timing for the whole bit to work.
Jerry Lewis was a monster talent or not.
OMG !! Pure gold, first time I ever watched those two perform together.
You speak the truth, Kemo Sabe !!
Don't think it gets better than this!!!
GEE-- I MISS THESE GREATS--- THIS WAS THE BOMB-- luv the shows --with all of these Human Treasures of Comedy.... thankyou for the video----
Loved the Dean Martin show
Miss these guys..they were great.
Elegant and funny without any swear words and putting others down... the good old days.
Boy am I glad I was born back then. Love all those old actors!!
Agreed! Dean had magnificent timing and was the master of the adlib. In fact Jerry Lewis was notorious for stealing his adlibs on the Martin and Lewis Show. One of the greatest straight men, and the funniest guy in the Rat Pack.
Jerry stated that Dean was extremely gifted as a straight man. One of the best. I totally agree.
Dean Martin is the guy you want to go out drinking with
This is awesome, I love Don Knotts!!
Good Lord, Don knotts was such a genius! of course Dean Martin was fantastic as well!
I was born in the late 90's, but man, entertainment just looks so much more enjoyable and elegant back then. Sort of feel like I was born in the wrong year. :c
Exuvium97 , it was

Fun fact: This special aired nearly four weeks after the premiere of The Andy Grifith Show, which debuted on October 3, 1960 on CBS.
Don Knotts has the nicest headstone I've ever seen. Very respectful to his career without being gaudy. He was a true comic genius. The only time I ever heard my father laugh was when he was watching Don Knotts on "The Andy Griffith Show"
These two legends are hysterical together here....
Don and Dean, two legends
don knotts one of the great one's very funny actor. ..
Dean is a natural comedian.
Indubitably !!
This is well before I was born but it is some of the funniest stuff I've ever seen. Dean was the last Titan of entertainment.
Missing you Don. Hope you were "born again", I'd love to see you in Heaven.
Wonderful !!! Thank you so much !!! Time Machine please !!

Classic! Thanks for posting!
Dean & Don always made great Team Ups on Stage.
When, this was probaly a one time gimmick by CBS to promote the new in 1960 with the established. It was also a good play on Don's persona, somewhat like Jerry, not as cool as Dean or Frank.
Hey, what''s that? Oh, yeah, I remember. Talent.
That was hysterical! Dean Martin is so underrated as a straight man and I think it's because he's so handsome. He had it all, beautiful voice, wit, charisma. I wonder what he would have been like in a dramatic role.
Donnis Campbell Watch him in "Rio Bravo" and "The Young Lions"
Andy Griffith Show don was a true hero lots of love to you Mr jester.😂❤❤😂😂🎉🎉😎🇨🇦😎
Don pulled it off as Frankie with that look
Simply iconic !!!!!
there"s nothing like actors back then, they definitely had more class.
I wonder if we’ll be saying the same thing in 30 years about today’s stars.
@@fifthbusiness1678 I rather doubt it.

+Heru- deshet And now thousands of channels of basically nothing. And you have to pay for it, even the commercials.
+Heru- deshet If you get something worth watching like Turner Classic Movies, you have to get the $100.00 a month package.

True, but you definitely get your money's worth if all you like to watch is TCM, which most of the time I do.
Allen Woodall mr Martin was just a singer who got famous thorough J Lewis but very funny. All they knew was smoking , drinking and women NOT A GOOD WAY TO LIVE..after a person gets hook on that .

Gentlemen's class performance and a damn funny one.. I wonder why and how this behaviour of gentleness has changed in people now.
