Season 6. Barney was gone and it was shot in color. The first 5 seasons are 100% better than season 6 and on. It seemed like their was an energy drain and it wasn’t funny anymore and the excitement had left. Don Knotts brought a whole lot to the show. Andy may have been keeping Mayberry safe but Don was keeping the show safe.
I’m 80 now and remember The Andy Griffith show and Mayberry RFD very fondly. Those of us who were raised in small towns learned to appreciate the simplicity and warmth of the people and their culture. Truly a great time to be alive.
@thefamouspeopleus Absolutely, we did not need graphic details, we actually watched the show, using our brain, listening to the words and watching the expressions from decent characters.
I'm lucky to have actually been in Mt Airy and played music in a dance hall, just outside of town and there is a place called Pilot Mountain, where I also performed and I assumed that the town "Mt Pilot" would have been referenced from that location since it's all in an area where you will be reminded of the show
You show a frame with Ernest T. Bass, but don't mention his character -- and yet he is one of the most memorable and funniest characters of the entire show.
My favorite is when Opie & his friend try to increase circulation on their little newspaper by making it more like the "Mayberry After Dark" section of the town's paper. It was a section of the paper that gave the lowdown on the town local's.. But Opie & pal go too far with the material they print.. 🤣 A while after Andy explains to them they can't be writing stuff like that, Opie tells him they printed out an entire new page, but tossed it out and that they watched the garbage truck haul it off. The ending scene shows Andy, Barney and Aunt Bea all running into each other at the dump with flashlights later that night... They all wanted to read the latest dirt the kids had found... 😆💦
One continuity error was when Andy tried to mitigate a feud by they ways of the Old Country, he learned about it in the War. In another episode, we see Andy and Barney attending a school reunion for the class of 1947. If you assume the stories happen in a specific order, this is a problem. If you take each episode and a stand-alone story, this is not a problem.
Saying it's weird to end up on a comedy because you're not a fan of comedy is like saying it's weird that if an actor who isn't in favor of murder ends up in a movie where he or she is a murderer. It's called good acting!!!
I heard or read somewhere that Andy injured his hand, striking the wall, when he became angry to hear President Kennedy was assassinated. I do believe this episode was filmed that year, 1963.
I heard that he got into an argument with his pool guy, and he punched a wall with his hand. In the show, they explained the bandage by saying that he caught some moonshiners and they got rough.
Andy and Opie did not throw rocks at each other at the beginning of each episode as they walked down the road to the lake. Opie threw a rock into the lake, and Andy shows his admiration for such a good throw.
@@latinforever actually, Opie didn’t throw the rock. He was too little to get the rock to I skip, and someone else from the production staff was in the bushes and threw it . I have watched the opening of that show many times, and I could never tell someone else threw it. They edited in such a way that you couldn’t tell. I read that somewhere
Early in the presentation you mentioned that Don Knotts signed a one-year and then a 5-year contract. In actuality the total was only 5 years. Andy had told him, as you mentioned near the end, that he didn't expect it to go beyond that 5 years. And there was no way to recognize Sarah's voice because you never heard Sarah's voice. Whoever picked up the phone would acknowledge that they were taking the call that Sarah passed through or when making a call would pick up the phone and initiate the call by saying her name. But her voice was never heard.
I was never a fan of ‘Helen Crump’. She always seemed so bitchy and holier than thou type of person. And since the real life actress had an actual affair with Andy makes her a home-wrecker too. That’s something else that should never have happened. Destroys the innocence of the show.
I couldn't stand Helen Crump. She was the biggest witch on television. Sheriff Andy should have dumped her. Instead, he married her. Even when she was being nice to people, you knew her claws were there, waiting to come out.
Apparently she twisted his arm and made him cheat poor innocent Andy, suppose he just couldn’t make right from wrong type decisions, falling victim to a “home wrecker with claws”? Hint, it takes 2-
I'll never forget the episode that featured actor Jack Nicholson ad a father who left his infant at the front of the court house. And ,yes he and his wife came to take their baby back.
It’s sorta hypocritical saying he sang “gospel” musical and being an adulterer. Those two don’t gel. Sad to hear that. I always sorta thought he was a godly man. I’ve watched his shows since he first starred in the Andy Griffith show. I guess it just surprised me. It must of been devastating to his family.
@ this is true, but one must acknowledge their sin ask for forgiveness, then repent…don’t do it again. A true Christian will never advocate someone’s sin being ok. We are to preach against sin, not get into agreement with it. Jesus saves those who acknowledge they need a savior because they’re a sinner. Jesus said….if you DO what I say, then you are my disciple. When you sin you must stop that sin. If an evil spirit drives you to sin, you must ask Jesus for His help. God has rules and principles, and you cannot go by your own rules and Ideas. A true Christian follows the book, and true believers will always be surrendered to Christ and His Word, and His book. His book is your instruction Manuel on how to conduct your behavior for having a beautiful and productive life. If you choose to not go by the book, then you have chosen spiritual death and destruction for your life. God will never remove your “choice”….you get to choose. So sad about Don Knotts. He was hilarious. He did Dodge car and truck commercials in the 60s and early 70s. They were extremely funny. He didn't take himself seriously and knew how to make fun of himself. He was a good man.
I know a lady who watches this show exclusively every day. When I was little I can recall saying how fake the show was. Families don't act like that I reasoned. I grew up in a dysfunctional family and could not relate.
Another episode that gives you the idea that Mount airy was Andy's home town when Barney solves the drug store robbery and Andy ask him he wants to go with him and Ellie on a double date and after that we can go down to the snappy lunch and it's located in Mount Airy 😊 my favorite with Barney is the haunted house 😂😂😂😂😂
Why didn't Francis Bavier even attempt to speak with a Southern accent? I'm not sure if she spoke with a Manhattan or Transatlantic accent? Whatever it was, it didn't fit in with a small southern town like Mayberry, North Carolina.
In real life it isn't necessary for everyone in an extended family to have the same accent. She could have been raised somewhere else, or even many places with an accent blend. Or considering her looks, she might have taken elocution lessons to be more ladylike.
Why does the commentator say that Andy died in 2012, but the gravestone says 2003? Also, if he was born in 2011, as it says on the gravestone, he would have been older than 86!
Maybe Andy and other crew members should have played many pranks on Francis to lightener her up a bit. Jim’s husband played in the show at least on 1 occasion.
SO MANY Great episodes. I liked PRISONER OF LOVE , The beautiful Susan Oliver as a criminal team stealing jewelry , is caught. They put her in the Mayberry jail to try and catch her partner. Andy and Barny both like her more than they should.. a great episode
I'm 75 and I've been watching the Andy Griffith show for many years. Now that I'm retired I've gone back to watching the old shows. It never was the same after Barney left the show. Actually, to me he made the show. I never could stand listening to Gomer Pyle though. He was so irritating.
The cor episodes were more folksy with a down-home atmosphere. The ones in B&W are more dramatic, with criminal activity focused on the sheriff and deputy.
