Even the exterior of that previous generation looked real amazing~ W222 was the best generation S-Class in terms of looks and technology, but I don't think this W223 is bad. It's just the previous W222 had that elegance that was just right for the S Class.

I am slowly getting accustomed to the logic behind the design language of this car, which is quite well executed. The Engine's power and torque levels are also quite reasonable. My only gripe lies in the fact that the cockpit mimics that of the Tesla, for me detracts somewhat from the quality Daimler Benz AG should have put into this car, given the superior quality of the cockpit in the EQS, which should also been given to this car. Overall, this is such an amazingly Beautiful and Capable automobile for family men and women, who happen to be captains of industry, who do the school run with the children, in addition to also transporting elderly family members in great comfort. Nicely Balanced, and a lovely Review dealing succinctly with the initially with the initial impressions of a fine Automobile.
If I had to choose between the Mercedes Benz S580 and the BMW 750Li, I would always choose the 750Li, I am a Driver at heart, and the 750Li brings me a 523 BHP V8 Engine that has a very strong power delivery throughout the rev range, and I am more at ease with the cockpit of the 7 Series than the S Class - it's really a personal preference.
Nonetheless, the 2021 S - Class remains a Great Car.

A delightful and comprehensive review, as always. I have to say though, I'm not moved by the new S-Class design. I remember in the 80s and 90s when an S-Class had a certain imposing presence. That seems to be largely absent from recent designs. In fact, this new car looks like it's trying hard to look smaller than it actually is, but maybe the impression is different in person?

Love the S Class but the LCI previous generation interior was far nicer. That version of MBUX was solid and there were still hard buttons for the most commonly used features. Also, I would hope MB offers different wood choices and matte finishes because that shiny plasticky looking wood will only look good for a while plus it reflects sunlight like crazy.

I saw three hours ago an S63 AMG cupé it was black with dark tint windows and it had a most magnificent presence on the street surrounded by Fords Hondas and old GMs. It caught my eye because it didn’t look like a MB it looked more like a love child between a Bentley and something Italian. I had to drive up quickly before it got away and I got a glimpse of the back side batches and a bit of the right side sculpture. No MB look a like. No bigger than an E Class but taller and wider. A beauty rolling down the street.

That screen and piano gloss plastic looks extremely cheap. The entire center point of the interior is a screen, there's no flowing lines or geometry like the last generation which frankly looks better than this. You can't even tell this apart from a C class or anything else anymore, they all look the same from the outside. The S class always had the 3 distinct DRL LEDs which signified you were driving the top of the line, now it just looks like everything else.

    • @Nabilllllll

Duhhh the c class has 1 dots inside the front headlight and s class has 3 while E class has 2 dots. You clearly don’t know what you’re talking, C class has always looked similar to the S class, The previous W205 and W222 were very similar too!

My third s class. The exterior design looks much better in person. The ride and drive are both improved. The dual screen layout is a step backwards for this series both aesthetically and in functionality . The center touch touch screen takes your eye off of the road to operate while you search for a menu or try something as simple changing the radio channel. It also takes away from the comfort experience because the ergonomics of the touchscreen are just far enough away from the user to make the driver move his driving position to operate it. The center console takes away the armrest for your forearm as well as reduces the cup holders size. The touch screen stays covered in fingerprints and the fingerprint id is an extra step that gets annoying on a daily basis. The touch screen is also hard to see at times with the suns reflections. The new air vents sit high and away from the driver and cause a distracting reflection on the windshield. The ride and drive are outstanding , but the electronics make it very frustrating to operate.

7:00 I think global specs S class does come with sequential turn signals. Maybe they swapped it because of the US regulation something about the first flicker of turn signal should be as bright as the brake lights (something like that) and since if it's sequential, the first flicker would be deemed not enough to meet the regulation. Hence why Audi's turn signal is a bit ridiculous because not only you have the turn signal part moving in sequential, but also the brake light which doubles as the turn signal. Mercedes probably thought it would be better to have it not sequenting rather than having brake-share/red turn signals.

Love the exterior, but agreed that the previous gen interior was better. For over $100k I don’t want to see any cheap piano black plastic, and touch sensitive buttons are a huge pain (no, you don’t get used to them). I’ll take our Volvo XC90 T8’s interior over the S550 any day.

Even the OLED infotainment screen will be a replacement item after a certain amount of hours due to burn in. These cars are not meant to still be on the road in 20 years - unlike previous generations on S-class. No doubt they are making them disposable because they see the future as all EV. Shame to think of something so expensive and greenhouse heavy as this as disposable though...

I may be in the minority, but I am woefully underwhelmed by this design. S-Classes have long had stately road presence that commanded attention. This can easily be confused to be an E-Class. I am just confused by the anonymity in the styling. Yes, it has the tech, but even the V8 performance figures are not all that impressive, something I didn't think I would say about a MB.(the current BMW 750 makes 523hp, and will likely go even higher with the new model on the horizon.) My wife is a current W222 owner and loves the car. Not sure what to think of this one. Seems to not be worth the upgrade.

    • @TheloniousP

@@Hyrppa95 I've never mistaken the W222 for anything other than an S-Class, while viewing from any angle. The same can not be said for this new iteration, easily coming across as a puffed-up E-Class. It just lost that stately S-Class design. That said, I've not seen it in person, so maybe my opinion may change.
