- The S580 is the cure for insomnia. A car so smooth, quiet, and comfortable, driving it makes staying awake a task. This week I had the pleasure of driving the brand new 2021 Mercedes Benz S580. The Mercedes S Class has always been the benchmark for full size luxury sedans, and rightfully so. Somehow, the S class masters everything it attempts and maintains its place as the best in its class through its entire production run.
The 2021 S class is fully redesigned and Mercedes has truly pushed the boundaries of comfort + technology. The interior material selection is simply breathtaking. Just one look at the door panel and you’ll count 5 individual leather panels, multiple aluminum accents, an active LED panel, and plenty of stain resistant piano black trim. Everything looks expensive, feels expensive, and functions flawlessly. The newest generation of MB UX is introduced in the new S Class. As every other generation before this one, the new MB UX is easily the best in the industry. With a 3D digital gauge cluster, augmented reality heads up display, and an interactive navigation system, the car is filled with cutting edge technology.
The exterior design is slightly controversial. From one angle it’s an aggressively opulent design that has followed the general guidelines of previous S classes. From the rear however, it is reminiscent of the lowest priced models in the Mercedes lineups, the A Class and the CLA. I wish the rear end held more personality and was distinctive throughout the rest of the lineup.
Nothing but pleasure when it comes to the drive. Immensely comfortable, fascinatingly detailed, and tastefully decorated. The new S class rivals less with the BMW 7 series and the Audi A8, and more so brands like Rolls Royce and Bentley. It is hard to find a sedan that offers more than the S class without costing 3 times as much.

the 'tray' you refer to in the trunk is actually a retractable grocery bag holder; you can push it all the way down to the trunk floor and to retract it to the state it's in the video, you press the silver bottom on the front right corner

Good job presenting the car.
For $100K plus, you'd think that they have the same dash that the EQS 580 has - one solid screen across the car. Instead they have 2 dorpie looking paste on screens. They look cheap and maybe left over monitors from your PC. The car drives like a boat but very smooth for sure. The fit and finish is very nice and I particularly love the seats when they balloon up on turns to give you added support, very nice touch! Looking at the 580 Hybrid that has a V6 and an electric motor with a battery that can deliver 90 miles on EV mode. This provides the best of two technologies, specifically on long trips. The 90 miles is great for in town driving.

Should I get this as a starter benz, actually as a starter everyday car? The price seems like a stretch, but man oh man it looks glorious. I feel like it would motivate me to keep my lifestyle luxurious

The latest technical marvel is the S500 with an in-line 6 cylinder, turbo with 429 HP, only 0.5 sec slower than the V8 . The S500 is smoother and quieter than the V8, not to mention 15% less fuel.

Man, what were they thinking with all that touch button BS. I'll be buying 2010 or older until they figure that out.
You failed to mention the spare wheel and tool kit in the trunk. A tyre repair kit will not fix a torn sidewall on a tyre. A temporary low speed emergency tyre is not very useful at night 200 miles from a repair centre. In Australia it can a lot further than that.
American's seem to only comment on speed, gadgets, comfort and styling.
The trend to a sloping roof at the back and a high sweeping styling curve along the window sill creates small windows, often to high for children to see out, and a head space so low that rear seat passengers feel claustrophobic. The fashion includes high bonnets and low roofs so occupants and drivers are barely able to see over the bonnet. I remember in1974 when the Mercedes Benz S-Class offered excellent vision for all occupants.
The mid 1970s when occupants travelled to see and be seen. Now 50 years later the car is a symbol, primarily to be looked at.

Worst interior ever. Mercedes isn't fooling me with that nasty screen on the center console.
I didn’t love it until I saw it in person. I do like the previous interior but the screens functionality is just flawless
@@adamdrivesla8268 I highly doubt that this will be a "timeless" interior. In 5 years it might dated already.
It would have been better if Mercedes physically integrated the center LCD and the instrument LCD into the dash, but instead they just stuck it on the top which makes it look even more cheap.
