    Although the new S Class looks great on video I had the opportunity to see one in person in a showroom this week and although I currently own an S560, this new S class is a big step up. It’s stunningly beautiful in person. The interior just exudes luxury. My only concern are the controls. The more we move forward with less buttons, the more I feel we need to read the controls, hence a big road distraction. I can’t help wonder if driving at 100 mph and searching for a seat massage option is wise. I feel the same about the new EQS controls.

      I would add that if you want to enjoy more serene quiet at lower speeds then the S580 plugin might do the trick and you might also have a better answer to others who blame climate change on your car alone. Mercedes must also find more "younger" buyers who have grown up with smartphones (the iphone is 15yrs old now) where buttons are old-man tech. Also remember that a vast number of the S-Class are chauffeur driven (I'd say all the LWB and every Maybach) so what the front driver has to get used to, is irrelevant. Its not like you're dropping the S-class into your mates backstreet garage for servicing and if you can afford the S-Class, you can afford the service cost (post warranty) so button failures are the mechanics problem.

It's everything you can do on your mobile such as be on social media, text messaging, browsing the web, etc. Those tasks can be much more distracting than adjusting your temperature on a touch screen or changing your radio station(to a lesser degree?). I suspect more 7-Series buyers drive their own car. Always had a soft spot for the 750i with its V12. Good enough to be an Rolls Royce. Ironically the BMW7 probably hides your expression of wealth than the S-Class. Both the S600 and the 750i will be collectors cars just for the engine and suspension alone. I just dont think many self made wealth sees driving these as looking like their old wall st banker car. It seems weird that anyone would buy a diesel S class or 7-series yet they were the best sellers. The next LWB EQS will be the new pinnacle of both Mercedes tech and its lavish attention instead of the S-class. BMW are further behind by the V12 is gone and so will the V8 soon.

      thats because its taken the design language from the lesser models, no longer being the trendsetting flagship. Mercedes has made its intentions clear that because the sedan segment is dying, they're not going spend money where they dont need to. It shows in the interior as well, the slapped on dash screens look nasty, and in my opinion is lazy design, that won't age well, perhaps another cost cutting measure.

    Wow... I drove this model today that's why I'm here. Its worth the money guys. Speaking about the engine sound coming through the cabin that's because the car is so quiet any sound can be heard even a pin drop silence is well and truly heard. Love every bit of it plus the video doesn't do it justice ..you've got to see it live to believe .. Bellisimo!!!!

      @JWil97 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Disagree. This new one just looks more stately, flatter, bigger, more imposing grill, longer and noticably wider body, much better wheel choices and designs in general (especially the 21" one), not to mention the insanely cool rear tail lights.

    • @armaanali39
      @armaanali39 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@JWil97 nope- the previous gen had such bold and imposing lights. The 3 stripe design- the bulky nature of it. 😭

    • @BomberFletch31
      @BomberFletch31 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@armaanali39 and to me, those stripes are reminiscent of the ridged taillights that graced the W116, W126 and W140. Personally, I think the horizontal taillights in this generation is fine, they just needed to make it more rectangular and less triangular - more like the new E-class and less like the CLS.

    • @BomberFletch31
      @BomberFletch31 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@JWil97 The grill is one of the things that I don't like about it. It's the wrong shape, it's too big and the bezels are too thin. The front end of the facelift W222 was a perfect modern interpretation of the classic Mercedes-Benz front end design. They've ruined it with this new generation S-class, not to mention the facelift E-class ...

    Love the interior, not sure about the exterior design. I agree with you on the expectations vs reality point - I drove the last generation W222 model and expected it to be a really luxurious drive. However, I was disappointed to hear wind and road noise on the highway, as well as the ride not being as smooth as I was expecting.

    It's disappointing to see MB doing away with all the physical switches. Touch is a major way you interact with the car and a big way that it communicates "luxury" to you. The tactile sensation you get when turning a quality knob or pressing a switch with a satisfying "click" is wonderful. It seems like they took the S-Class and turned it into an app.
