    I currently own the 2018 S 450. This is a beautiful update in every way, save a few. I personally hate the new seat controls compared to the previous ones and also preferred the single glass instrument cluster/infotainment display over the separate screens the car now employs. You started expressing similar disapproval just as I was typing this so I know you understand.

    Good point about the relatively short life of technology. I've heard several auto mechanics refer to most modern cars as "throw aways" because so much computer and electrical tech is tied in to the operation of the vehicle.

    Just discovered you channel recently and all I can say that it is a breath of fresh air to see car reviewers that are brutally honest about the things that they don't like. I am subscribed to all lot of car review channels and It seems that most of them (not all) follows a cookie cutter format and praise most of the cars that they review (understandably since most of the times, the dealership lends them the cars, sponsors them, etc.) (savagegeese is one of the few exceptions that comes to mind). Excellent review and I really hope you continue the same path!

    • @TestDriveVideos
      @TestDriveVideos  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We've been reviewing cars on TH-cam longer than most (our original /EverydayDriver channel celebrates 15 years this year) and we've always been honest about what we find, both pros and cons. We know most others stick to a different format, and have been quite successful with it - but we greatly appreciate when people find us and connect with what we do. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment!

    I just took possession of the S500, you think you’re impressed with the S580, give the S500 a try and discover what smooth stop/start really is and the performance is same with 4 passenger + luggage as the V8 version. The S500 should not be under estimated as it’s truly a marvel of technology, in fact, it’s the same engine as the AMG E53 ! Look forward to your review of that one soon.

      Lease is horrible now. $2900 a month on a $149k S560. I would finance instead with lowest down. For that same amount, I was leasing a $275k Bentley few years ago. Due to the bad safety in my area, I will avoid Bentley. G63 AMG is best bet now.

Just like most car manufacturers, Mercedes seems to be contending with their pleasant traditional dash layout to the iPad electronic touch buttons.

      Having probably spent more time with this car than Todd and Paul did when we had it, I'd say if you were able to spend that kind of time with one too you'd probably change your mind. As a 911 owner, this thing was simply wonderful to drive and experience. It's one of those cars that has so many features that you never thought of but now can't live without/want in everything. But I totally get what you are saying. I was never someone who wanted an S Class. Until I spent a week with this one.

    You are incorrect. The vehicle you guy show in this video does NOT have the 4D sound system. The 4D system would have the rotating tweeters and an additional set of lower speakers on the front and back doors as well as a large center speaker on the roof and you would have had another speaker by the rear passenger's head as well as the bass shakers included in the frame of the seats.

    I agree 100% about the tacked-on iPad instrument cluster. It's exceptionally unattractive, to say the least, and looks like a compromised design studio afterthought that cheapens and ruins the entire ambiance of the otherwise excellent interior. Hopefully, MB will see fit to address this with a redesigned dash for 2023.

This car though, THIS ONE is what Mercedes is branded for. Beautiful luxury! Now if only I can get this car in a coupe :)

  • @Rick2010100
    @Rick2010100 ปีที่แล้ว

    The head cushion cost ca. $50-60 (each) at Amazon, so you replace them if they are worn. If you can´t afford them, don´t buy a S-Class. The car is also not limited to 130 mph, the limiter is set to 155 mph, like all other non AMG cars. AMG cars can have a limit at 175 mph wich can be lifted by participating in MB AMG drivers training. This drivers traing official opens up the limiter, so you get the max speed with full warranty coverage. One can also lift the limiter by a thrird party ECU manipulation (costs usually just 50 bugs), but it would violate the MB warranty policies.

    This is a big let down from my w222 S560. Go sit in w222 and this and them compare the overall experience. W222 feels more solid, well built and more special. The cheap Tesla center panel just makes me puke. Doors are super light. Plastics everywhere even with Napa leather and full chauffeurs package. I ordered g63 AMG instead .. wait is 18 months but that gives me more time to enjoy the old S class. G63 is the best self driver 4 door Benz you can buy today. Save your cash pass on the New S class. Just spend $50k more and drive a G63 - it’s so more exclusive, equally fast, fashion icon and makes you look sexy. S class makes you look like an old man.

    The looks of the S Class are certainly catching up to the great liking C Class that for years have looked better than many of their more expensive cars. Hiwever it seems that the more expensive the modern luxury cars are, the worst value for money they offer. Most of the modern luxury cars are more about what you can talk about rather than what most motorist's can practically use and or take full advantage of. I still prefer your old pink Jaguar XJ6.

      I have owned and put 60K+ miles on both a Lexus LS460 (loved it) and my current MB S550 (really love it). Until you have driven Mercedes best for awhile, you can't really understand how good it is. In 2019 before Covid my wife and I took a 4000 mile 18-day jaunt out west to Yellowstone and the Tetons, etc. What an amazing trip partner our S550 was! Our last five vehicles (2 drivers) have been 3 Lexus and 2 Mercedes, and I love both marques. Yes, when I traded in my LS460 on this Mercedes in 2017, it had 100K mikes and NO major problems or issues. Now that my MB S550 is out of (extended) warranty at 76K mi, I am ready for my next vehicle. But, I am willing to foot the much higher costs (tires, brakes, wipers, etc) of owning this car until then because of how GOOD it really is. Probably will get another, but not till supply chain issues ease up.

    Mercedes are a expensive piece of garbage. I’m speaking from experience. I have a s550. If I look at the car wrong it costs me $500

    I don't know what you two see but I see a ugly car with a laptop sitting in front of your face while driving to much going on
