I’m doing this replacement and the faulty wire also looks burned and discolored as well, will this problem happened again, and can I replace the plastic connector housing
Seemed you've already messaged me on the Facebook page but I'll put it here also for others to see on the comments that might have the same concerns. here is a link to the ignition switch pigtail i found at rockauto. www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=930531&jsn=752 That plug fits Jeeps from 1975 up to 1994. From 1995 and up they switched from the GM steering column to the Chysler steering column. Which has a completely different setup.
Thanks for this video. Everyone else just shows the before and after repair while taking about it with maybe a shot of the switch as the pull it out the box. By the way did your trans stop auto shifting at the same time or is that something i should look elsewhere to figure out?
that could have to do with the TCM (transmission control management) try pulling codes by cycling between off and on the ignition 3 times and on the 3rd time leave it on the on position without starting the engine and have a pen and paper ready to write down the code. the check engine will flash slowly for the first digit and then faster for the second digit. if you get a "55" there's nothing wrong and is end of code check. a 12 means that the battery has been disconnected within the past 100 engine starts. Those are the ones i remember off the top of my head. You can find the full list of codes for OBD1 with a quick google search. Sometimes there maybe multiple codes and don't always set the check engine light on. the code check will always end with 55 meaning its the end of code check.
@@jmoyet sad part is i got renux. No check engine light. Thanks though. I got everything but the radio going with your video. Ill have to check into a tcu

I think in the 1996 redesign they changed the steering column so on the 2000 model the switch is on the opposite side of the key hole. so it should be straight cross from the key under the covers. so there shouldn't be any need to drop your steering column as far as my knowledge goes. Good morning, I have a 1989 Cheyenne and I have a problem with the ignition; the gear stays stuck (I turn it on and even if I turn it off "the ignition switch stays activated as if they were together gear"), it is worth mentioning that the ignition switch was changed again and the gear has already been checked by a mechanic and it's a hundred The mechanic tells me that the ignition switch, as it is of the rod type, activates a pill that is below the steering wheel and between the pedals, could this switch be the fault of my truck? Are you aware of possible flaws in this article? Could you support me with your comments, Thank you... Using a translator, greetings from Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico
Hi from what I understand it seems the mechanic replaced the ignition lock cylinder (the part that the key goes into) and the gears (that are located behind the ignition lock cylinder) that move the rod that goes connected to the switch below. The switch itself is lower on the steering column as shown in my video. This steering column is from GM so it should be the same for chevy and gmc. They should all have the same setup. Now it sounds like it could be a relay or the ignition switch issue. Sometimes relays can stay stuck on after the car is turned off because they get too hot or are just too old. If you're not going to be the one working on it have whoever it is check the wires to see what wires stay active after you take the key off
@@jmoyet Ok, I really appreciate your comment, I will send it to check the switch and the relays to see where the problem is, thank you very much, greetings!
Will the ignition switch drain the battery in a day if it fails. The poster said that most of the dash would lose power, didn't day anything about draining the battery.
Let me know how that goes reaching through a hole in the dash with both hands with a steering wheel in the way and get it all aligned so everything works right.
I don't think it does. I just mentioned the steering tilt because it can affect the high beam switch depending on the tilt position if not adjusted properly.
Awesome video! Thanks
Appreciate the video this is my last option to do on my 94 2door 5speed
Wow 2 door 5 speed. Those are very rare and hard to find
@@jmoyet my issue ended up being a speaker wire making my cluster and running lights fuse blow and yeah there hard to come by

Where did you order the ignition starter switch? I have a 1987 Jeep Cherokee and I'm trying to find the right one. Thanks
That one specifically I got from napa auto parts only because it's near my house. You can find it at rockauto.com and other auto parts stores.

My dude, you can pull the gauge cluster and access those lil bolts without touching all that.
Let me know how that goes reaching through a hole in the dash with both hands with a steering wheel in the way and get it all aligned so everything works right.
Does it matter if it has the tilt switch ?. I have 1990 jeep Cherokee
I don't think it does. I just mentioned the steering tilt because it can affect the high beam switch depending on the tilt position if not adjusted properly.
If you have tilt steering vs. Standard column it matters.
Different part #. But same steps.
Anybody know what that Trans Power Comfort button is?
It changes the rpm that it shifts at. Like towing mode.
Y would u not record yo putting it in just because u take it off don’t mean it go in as simple
Hate to tell ya, bud, but if you can't put something on that you took off, you shouldn't be working on stuff till you learn more from someone
