  • Daniela Silivas (ROM) entered the third rotation as the leading gymnast in the All Around.
Her rival Elena Shoushounova received a perfect 10 already...
She needed a 9,975 to share the lead... let's watch her Floor routine and the score she got.

I was rooting for Shoushonova all rhe way but this floor exercise was a pleasure to watch. Silivas was a great gymast. 😊

She was - I felt sorry for her, that she never won an All Around Title at the World Championships. In 1987 she was so successful at the Europeans.... she was bound to win the Gold Medal in Rotterdam the same year, but she made terrible mistakes there.... But still she was highly decorated as a gymnast throughout her career.

if she had this routine in team competition she could have won easily gold all around, terrible choiche to compete the Double double

Most likely true.... *thanks the spirits above, that this mistake made it possible for Elena Shoushounova to win the Olympic All Around Title*

She should have saved it for Finals. Although I always have thought it was kind of karmic that the trade off of getting a skill named for her that she was the third to do and did exactly once was losing the coveted AA crown she wanted more than anything.

Daniela lost the all around gold on balance beam. She had two small losses of balance and scored a 9.90 instead of expected perfect ten. Balance beam brought her fame but also tears for the loss of two world's all around titles (87,89) and the coveted olympic all around gold.

      @@akimbohr she also scored ( a generous ) 9.9 on floor.she never scored less than 9.975 internationally

Not as good as her compulsory or Elena's optional floor IMO

I wonder how she got less for this routine than her EF. The Seoul judges made no sense

You had almost the feeling, a perfect ten was always waiting right behind the next corner in those times. 😎😆😋

She was very good and had 4 acrobatic lines, two back to back! She should have won the gold medal, but... the USSR were well known at the time to corrupt the judges for their athletes!

Still it was another scoring system back then. The gymnasts took their prelim scores over (Compulsory + Optionals / 2) to the All Around Final and Daniela Silivas might have lost the Gold Medal with her mistake at Floor Exercise in the Team Competition, when she performed a double / double (double back with 2 twists) and a bad landing there....

she almost fell on beam and on floor in qualification, she deserved silver not gold
